Ah, I see your point now. I still think it'd sell the wrong idea since it just causes centralization, which is a problem that platforms already deal with, but now I see its potential usefulness as well

Hi! I don't know if self-advertisement is ok in this community, please tell me if it isn't and I'll delete this post. This is a game I've been working on for the last week and I'm not fully certain it'll go anywhere, but it has a small community already, so I figured its worth showing it here Moloch is a very hard platforming roguelike where health is not health points, and instead, it consists of several conditions that are somewhat simulated and that can result either in a softlock or a death. Yes, being soft locked due to being hurt is part of the experience. It borders the line that separates rage games from the rest. My idea for the project is to make it be frustrating because of how easy it is to die, and not because of how hard it is to use the controls. I tried my best to make the controls as responsive and smooth as I could, so that the game feels good to get good at. It is inspired by Noita and Rain World, the former being the one that inspired the roguelike elements and the wands, and the latter being the one that inspired the way I'm handling the difficulty and health. *In any system optimizing for X, the opportunity arises to throw any other value under the bus for optimized X*

Same case as Fakefunk, I have my own fictional world set in the year 2500. I don't really care about how the world is doing, but there's this small, human-made island operated by sentient machines that is what i call a "utopia in the works". They're trying to make a utopia, but they're not quite there yet. One thing I do know about this world is that "zero world countries" are now a thing, that is, countries that reach post-scarcity. The island this worldbuilding is focused on is one of those.
My friends have called them the intersection of transhumanism and buddhism, and solarpunk with a cyberpunk aesthetic

All the dictionary definitions for the word dozen say "a group of 12", which isn't decimal-centric at all. Like I said, being able to express a definition with decimal digits doesn't make it a decimal definition. I could just as easily say that it's "a group of 20". The definition doesn't change, it's just that I'm using base 6 now. Does this mean that it's a base 6 definition? No, it just means that I can use base six to express it
Anyhow, doesn't seem like this is going anywhere lol. I guess it's just a matter of which words you prefer
the_and_sys 3 years ago • 100%

you can also say that a dozen is a group of 1100, does that mean that a dozen is a reference to binary? of course not, that doesn't make any sense. just because you can use decimal digits to write a definition doesn't make it a decimal-centric definition. duodecimal is decimal-centric not because of its definition, but because it's literally "two(duo) ten(decimal)"
-
there are a lot of ways to count to 12 with only two hands. some with only one hand
the_and_sys 3 years ago • 100%
The problem with "duodecimal" is that it's in base ten, which makes it unfitting for a community centered around replacing base ten

I have a thing for magical realism and surrealism. When I write, I try to build on top of ideas that already exist, like a common metaphor for the topics I want to deal with, usually twisting it and making it feel like experiencing a dream
I don't know where this approach is on the "based on existing work" to "make it up" spectrum, tho

Here's what I think The Funny here actually is: It subverts the expectation of the reader up front (as long as they are familiar with «facts and easter eggs» images that use this similar format) by showing them this format, and then presenting them with something beyond blatantly obvious
Here's what my brain associated this meme with: Yknow that time when everyone and their mother used facebook? There were pages that kept posting fun facts about marvel and they looked exactly like this. I think this image is making fun of them running out of actual facts

Is there a way to input dozenal numbers? It can output them but i cant seem to input them
the_and_sys 3 years ago • 100%
Ten is also divisible by 2
In base ten, you can tell when a number is divisible by 2, 5 and ten by looking only at the last number (if it ends on 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 its divisible by 2; if it ends on 5 or 0 its divisible by 5, if it ends on 0 its divisible by ten)
In dozenal, you can do this with 2,3,4,6 and twelve
To do numbers like 10 and up, I use the other hand for the dozens place
A community for people who enjoy using base twelve and prefer it over base ten
To start this, I feel like pointing out that Zhanbun gender is not native to the Zhanbun (which I tend to call zhan so I'll do that here). The zhan originally didn't have a concept of gender inscribed in their society, it came to them when some people got obsessed with media from other cultures and from other ages. To make it more analogous to our society: In zhan society, gender is a weeb thing. Also they're post-scarcity transhumanists on the year 2500, which also has an impact in how their ideas developed here. So, it originally started with three labels: baoq, zaeq and daaq. These roughly translate to female, male and non-binary, respectively. They didn't have a native intuition for what these labels mean to us, and those who were invested in the history of gender didn't particularly enjoy the concept, so they just went with whatever felt right. A thing to point out though, daaq, just like non binary, is an umbrella label. It's a slightly different one for two reasons: Xaiq is another umbrella label that is roughly equivalent to xenogender. It's people whose gender doesn't allign with baoq nor zaeq, and it's not defined by the presence or lack of those. For example, if someone said their gender was ran (fire), they would fall in the xaiq label, not the daaq one. The way the word non binary works, we'd see xenogender as a label within non-binary. This is not how it works for the zhan. And the other reason: See, in our society, gender is kind of the default. I mean, at birth the doctor screams "its a boy!" or "its a girl!", and I don't actually know what happens when you're intersexual. Huh. But this isn't the case to the zhan. Like I said, for the zhan, gender is this weird thing the weeb kids are into. Not everyone has heard of gender and not everyone wants to participate in it. There's a word for that: gauq It's easy to translate gauq as agender. But there's a subtlety there that doesn't translate well. Agender is, at least for most people, opting *out* of gender. A zhan who is not immersed in our history would think of agender people of daaq (or xaiq), not gauq. To put it simply: agender is an empty box, gauq is the lack of a box. Here's the flags **Baoq** ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/QrC9e07eN3.png) **Zaeq** ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/yermxVBAmq.png) **Daaq** ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/UpbEHxTTQA.png) **Xaiq** ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/S05wdGcyjT.png) **Gauq** ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/Ds63eAp8xV.png)

Phone keyboards aren't designed for phones, they're designed for computers, so some people who have issues getting used to that much precision to type (and may even have physical difficulty to do so). While keyboards like messagease keyboard exist on the google play, i feel like it lacks features and customability, and i wish there were more options than just this one google play app. Until then, I'm stuck with what I have.
Voice assistants, in a way, are """better""" because they're accessible. They're clunky too because the technology isn't perfect, and it sucks that they're spyware, but at least, unlike qwerty/azerty/dvorak/colemak/whatever keyboards, these are ok-ish to use on phones

As someone who wants & to be her surname, I approve of the ampersand in this font
We have made a space for the Laiqbun community, with a room for the language itself, a room for off-topic conversation and a room for discussion about the fictional culture.
It tries to explain most of Laiqbun basic grammar quickly, and I think it's best used when people can explain you what things are supposed to mean (which are what the discord server and matrix room are there for). I'm pretty proud of it.
I tried out the Searx search engine and searched for laiqbun and found this. I have no idea who made it nor how does it work, but it's pretty cool
I've been working on this thing for a while, and yesterday it reached 100 pages. I copy the format that MSPA uses, since MSPA format is, to me, iconic of extremely convoluted plots that don't make sense at first and escalate a lot I try to keep the text on each panel short. That way the story doesn't become hard to read. It's got a RSS feed too, to make it easier to follow updates Updates are usually 6-12 pages, but there have been cases with more or less than that
My main instance is sopuli.xyz, but I often explore lemmy.ml for communities to follow since most of them are there. The problem with this is that in the app there's no option to subscribe to a community from another instance, or I haven't found it, at least. Is there a way to do this?
During the last week, a Mysterious Benefactor paid [someone](https://ampersandia.net/roxy/raiaqsuq#credit) to make an official font for Laiqbun. Making a font for the original Laiqbun script (Raiaqbun) was near-impossible, due to the huge amount of glyphs. So what he did is creating a new writing system that he could actually make a font for. I have called it Raiaqsuq, from the roots reiaq (x~1~ is a writing) and seq (x~1~ is new). ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/W57FpHAs7Z.png) The script is typed slightly different than the romanization and is very different from Raiaqbun, but it still keeps the vibe that Laiqbun is going for. Eschar really did a good job while making this font. I hope people have as much fun using it as I have.
I've always loved this kinda images, so I'll prolly do some with more complex sentences. That'd be fun

I feel like talking about the meaning of this song. This song is about Wyatt Mason, the blaseball player who used to play for the Unlimited Tacos and simply disappeared. First there was one Wyatt Mason, then everyone was Wyatt Mason, then there were no Wyatt Masons. Last season, with a lot of teams enhancing their stadiums' psychoacoustics, Wyatt Mason appears to be thirteen times back.
Just felt like sharing this song, she's got a lot more music than Life [Letters](https://invidious.xyz/watch?v=7hUbvIJ0Hnw) (the one song of hers that i've seen get popular-ish) and I feel like more people should know about this stuff
