How useable is iOS 18.0 DB4?

I read about a really annoying dimming issue, not sure if that’s affecting everyone though. Is it stable enough, how’s battery life? Thanks :)

iOS 18.1 DB1 with Apple Intelligence Beta is live

To enroll, go to Software Update and tap the prompt at the bottom. Device region needs to be set to US, language to US English, Siri also needs to be set to US. I was able to join the wait list from Canada after changing all those settings.

iOS 18 beta 3 now available

So far I’ve noticed: Improved photos app UI (both search and select being available at all times). 3rd party app icons being tinted in dark mode.

watchOS beta

I’ve seen some posts talking about iOS beta (which I’ve been running on my 15 Pro for a while), but what about watchOS? I’m using an Ultra 2 with it, is watchOS on that stable, not terrible on battery?

[iOS 18 DB1] You can now select a preferred Home Hub instead of HomeKit picking one for you

This has been posted all over the place but if you haven’t seen it, this is a huge change. To get it working, you need all your Apple TVs on iOS 18 DB1. Remove all your HomePods from your home if you have them. Then, you should see the option to turn off “Automatic Selection”. Turn it off and pick the Home Hub you want. You can then readd your HomePods to your home. This process sounds painful but it’s actually pretty quick, HomePods remove, reset and readd to your Home fairly quickly. This whole process probably only took about 10 mins.

Any changes to the video player in iOS 18?

I‘m still sad the "scrub anywhere" option is gone. Is that back by any chance? Or a double tap to skip option perhaps? Free zoom inside a video?

Apple Intelligence - Supported Devices

Apparently coming in a dev beta soon, although properly launching in Fall.

iOS 18 DB1 - Release Notes developer.apple.com

Typically more dev & API focused but helpful if you’re encountering an issue and want to know if it’s known, or want to see if there are any known showstoppers preventing you from upgrading.

"Listen to page" is grayed out, anyone with the same issue? https://i.imgur.com/Y8n40IR.jpg

Don’t know why, but I can’t select it. Does anyone have any idea? Language related maybe?

Video player: scrubbing anywhere is gone

I‘m assuming I’m not the only one who’s missing this feature? There should be a "no look" version for fast scrubbing in the player, it’s really annoying they removed this.

Has anyone tried the new transaction automation? (shortcuts)

If so, what data have you been getting? I just tried it and it seems like the merchant was empty. I was trying to save presets per merchant in a dictionary and was getting a "no key was provided" error: [image](https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/8eb5051b-f117-4d56-a617-a44b12c4c733.webp).

The small shortcut widget shouldn't need a dedicated folder

It should just have two options where I can pick the shortcuts. I get why the big widget wants a folder, but this is just annoying. It means I have to duplicate shortcuts with a different name if I want them in multiple widgets.

[iOS17DB6] Finally, there is visual confirmation that your report in Apple Music has been submitted! https://i.imgur.com/ECVMHAx.jpg

Previously, you’d just tap (done) and it would simply close the report window without any confirmation whatsoever that the report had actually been submitted

[iOS 17] Sending photo location/caption always on in iMessage

I’m not really sure why this doesn’t appear to have a settings toggle, but every time an image is sent in iMessage, *some* location is sent, whether it’s yours or location data from the image itself. I’m assuming it’s the original location of the photo taken, but I’m not sure. I tested it by sending an image to myself (which was surprisingly difficult in iOS 17), and there was no data attached, but it was an image downloaded from Imgur.

Subtitle Bug

I am experiencing a bug that causes subtitles to appear tiny and in the bottom left corner. Other people have reported the same problem on [Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSBeta/comments/15djpyn/ios_17_db4_subtitles_in_the_wrong_place_size/). I have tried messing around with the subtitles setting to no avail, and was wondering if anyone has found a fix for it?

Kinda annoying that I didn’t need a hub for the interactive home widget in beta 2 / 3 but now I do?

I’m not going to buy an Apple TV or a HomePod just for this.

Bluetooth automations no longer require confirmation!

This is kind of a big deal for people who are into automations. Prior to iOS 17, user had to confirm automations triggered by Bluetooth every time (probably for security reasons). That's no longer a case with iOS 17. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/cfa85c10-ed9d-49ba-90a6-ae4887c5884a.jpeg?format=jpg)

[iOS 17DB4] Finally, there is an animation for the AirPlay menu!

Still no where near as good as it was pre iOS 14. It’s just a pop-out animation and it’s specifically for areas where the menu pops out from a button such as in the music app’s now playing screen
