Idk why you’re being downvoted. You’re completely right

I don’t see what’s wrong with having the option. If it’s a setting, then people like you don’t have to turn it on. And people who want to see the main part of an image on their smaller display can so that too. It’s a win win

I wouldn’t say so. My Apple Watch shows a ridiculous amount of useful information on my watch face and I can easily find any other info I need with it. It’s also got a lot of health and fitness features which can be extremely helpful and potentially life saving. In addition to all of that, the rest of the features are helpful too. Whether some might find them to be redundant or intrusive, I and clearly many others find them to be useful. Just because you don’t find a use for it, doesn’t make it bad.

I use my iPhone extensively and it consistently lasts me all day. The iPhone 11 Pro came with a 20w charger in the box (although admittedly they removed the power adapter from the 12)

It’s actually been working really well for me on the latest beta. Seems they’ve improved the system

It is definitely just Bluetooth. Works exactly the same way it worked with AirPods before they added ultra wide band

I am generally curious what you mean by centrist nut jobs? The whole point of the centre is to be somewhere in the middle and therefore the best of both worlds that everyone has something in common with as far as I’m concerned

Dude, watch the video. This wasn’t done by Apple. It was modded by ELO, a company which is still around today. They made it for shopping centre payment stations and other similar use cases. And frankly, from the looks of it in the video, it worked just as well as they do today (which is to say mediocre at best).

Having each isle have 2 seats either side makes more sense than having 1 and 3. Especially when it comes to serving people. You have to lean over one person rather than 2 which is obviously easier. At least that’s my guess, I’m no professional

Parcel (all platforms): the best shipment tracker you’ll ever use
Solves (all platforms): it’s basically identical to the built in calculator but is 1,000,000x better
Music Library Tracker (iOS, iPadOS): keeps track of the change in your Apple Music library and can automatically make a spatial audio playlist for you
Mlem (iOS, iPadOS): the best Lemmy client
Vinegar (all platforms): a Safari extension that makes YouTube use the native video player, adds PiP for free and removes ads!
Baking Soda (all platforms): replaces custom video players in other sites with the native one
Crouton (all platforms): a natively built recipe manager. I don’t use it much but it’s really well made
MacWhisper (macOS): uses openAI’s whisper model to create super accurate transcriptions of audio and video files
Monitor Control (macOS): allows you to control the brightness of external monitors (other than Apple’s)
Calipers Tape Measure (iOS): a super accurate set of Calipers for your iPhone
Cric Pulse (iOS): the only cricket app with live activities

I cannot recommend Crouton enough https://apps.apple.com/app/id1461650987

All this means is that it’s opt out, rather than opt in. They’re not saying that there’s no way to disable it. In fact there’s already a way to disable it

As far as I’m aware, on the App Store, reviews only count for the platform that you review on. So if you go look at an iOS app on the Mac App Store, you’d see different reviews than that same app on the iOS App Store. Presumably, it would be the same here

Primarily Google as Google is the only other major operating system developer in the mobile market and is also the biggest advertising company in the world
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 71%
Regardless of that, Apple has at the very least put effort into adding privacy features. Google on the other hand is literally the company that does the advertising. Google’s main business is advertising. I said very clearly that Apple may not be perfect, but they’re objectively more privacy focused than others whether that’s for your gain or theirs

Side loading has absolutely nothing to do with privacy. My main point is that Apple is more privacy friendly than others
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 43%
I know what their privacy policy states and that they can’t (legally) lie in it (to my knowledge). I also know that they are not an advertising company primarily and that the competition is. That gives other companies far more reason to collect data. Apple on the other hand benefits from being more privacy focused as a selling point. Overall, Apple is far more trustworthy imo when it comes to privacy than others
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 73%
While Apple may not be perfect when it comes to privacy, they are objectively better for privacy than just about every other manufacturer as it’s profitable to their business model

I know Apple’s developing their own LLM which will hopefully be used in Siri. There’s no guarantee, but I can’t think it would be too hard to add Bard into Google Assistant. Cortana on the other hand was canceled by Microsoft and is being replaced by Bing chat. I believe Amazon is also stopping the Alexa development

I completely agree. I downloaded ARC, opened it, and promptly deleted it

Wdym “active notifications”? Do you mean live activities? Those have been a thing since iOS 16

This is an app clip suggestion based on your location. Siri suggestions can suggest things based on many factors such as location, time of day, recent apps, etc. These suggestions can be things like opening an app or texting someone. All of that processing is done on your device. As I said, this is for an App Clip based on your location. An app clip is like a mini app designed to do one single task. For instance, an app clip might be for paying for fuel at a petrol station. App clips are designed to be extremely small so you can download it quickly and easily and the delete them when you’re done. So in summary, you’re seeing a Siri suggestion to download an app clip that is linked to that nearby church. It’s probably some touristy thing. You can change all of your Siri suggestion settings under Settings > Siri & Search

Previously, you’d just tap (done) and it would simply close the report window without any confirmation whatsoever that the report had actually been submitted

It’s so annoying lol. I see absolutely no reason why I couldn’t have my Medicare card in the wallet app
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 100%
I don’t think the reason has anything to do with custom fitting. Apple has stores all over, just like in the U.S. I reckon the main issue is Sony being unable to produce more than 400,000 headsets worth of displays in year one which naturally makes an international release difficult

Apple sells a US$429 phone. I’m just saying the middle of Apple’s range, at a similar price to Samsung’s, has up to 512gb of storage
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 60%
I meant it’s there on Apple’s mid range. The one right before the flagship
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 54%
The S23+ isn’t exactly Samsungs flagship model but I can definitely see your point. It’s the same on Apple’s side. It’s there on the mid range. Just not on the low range

This will be the 5th smallest expansion covering around 171,000 square kilometres and 16.5 million people Apparently, after this expansion, there will only be four countries which have been surveyed by Apple but have yet to be released including Japan, Thailand, Mexico, and the U.A.E.

Y’know, I honestly really liked that remote too. Although I will say, after using, I like Gen 2 as well. When I hear “the old remote” though, I think of the ancient one without the trackpad that legit just had navigation buttons haha

Personally, I just like to AirPlay YouTube videos from Safari with an ad blocker to my TV whenever I want YouTube on it. So that’s one work around if you ever need it
WiseMoth 1 year ago • 100%
The old remote as in the one that’s probably around 7 years old? There are two Siri Remotes. A glass one with just a track pad and some buttons and an aluminium one with a circular trackpad that also has physical navigation buttons and the rest of the buttons. Both have Siri

Honestly, it’s so annoying. Netflix has started getting really bad and not just because of their refusal to integrate into the TV app
Mines broken from top to bottom. The amounts are wrong, the UI is broken the buttons don’t work the graph is all deformed
Still no where near as good as it was pre iOS 14. It’s just a pop-out animation and it’s specifically for areas where the menu pops out from a button such as in the music app’s now playing screen
Back on reddit, we had a thriving community for Apple Maps, so I decided to make one here on Lemmy for all the map lovers out there who use Apple Maps or anyone who needs help with it!
I’ve just installed the unreleased iPadOS version into the visionOS simulator! It’s pretty cool! (I am not affiliated with Mlem Group at all for the record)
Works in CarPlay and the iOS app!
Is there any eta for this version releasing? Do you guys know if it will be in the App Store version?
Seeing the current upvotes is nice, but being able to see both the upvotes and downvotes separately is also a great feature! So far, every implementation I’ve seen so far has only had one or the other. It would be awesome if it was at least an option in settings to choose or better yet, you could see both
For instance you can now rename your downloaded area and resize it after creating it. There are also new ‘Optimise Storage’ and ‘Update All’ buttons. At least I’m pretty sure they’re new. Frankly I didn’t use the feature too much in beta 2 so take this with a grain of salt
We had a thriving Apple Maps community back on Reddit but so far, we've had nothing like it on Lemmy. So here it is! Chat about anything Apple Maps related you like.
The mental health section in the health app has some minor design changes and new colours
