I'm not sure if they updated the website after I purchased it, but now the blurb for the Unifi Express says this:
Manages up to four additional UniFi Network devices when operated as a gateway
I have more devices than that, but still, it was literally not functioning with what I had. I also loaded my whole system backup including all historical data. That may have been the other thing that just killed it.
I bought a Unifi Express to upgrade my parents in law from an old orbi mesh system that I handed down to them. I'm hoping this will improve their network, and allow me to remotely help them more easily. After receiving the device, I decided to first test it out in my network to see if it was a viable replacement for my USG-3P and my RPI4-4GB. TL;DR: it is not. My setup: 1x U6 Lite 1x AC-AP Lite 1x AC-Mesh 1x Nano HD 1x USW-8-60W 1x Lite 8 POE 1x Flex Mini 1x USG-3P 1x Raspberry PI 4-4GB running pihole, Homebridge, controller 1x Raspberry PI zeroW running redundant pihole and critical redundant homebridge items Centurylink Symmetric gigabit fiber I have around 35 smart home wifi devices and in generally around 55-60 total clients connected to my network. I loaded a backup from my RPI4 controller to get started. My initial attempt just failed, as I tried to like set it up while connected to my existing network. I was also just not used to dealing with a UnifiOS console device and the way that it works. Loading the backup took like 30 minutes of an NFL football game, so I guess like 1 hour, but I did not time it exactly. After getting it up and running I can no longer get the network application to load in my browser, it just keeps loading forever. With nothing else happening, SSH to the console and running TOP shows that unifi-network-b process is using between 20-91% of the CPU. Load averages are around 4.5. The one good thing is that I was getting around the 940Mbps up and down at first, but it always starts out a bit slow at around 45Mbps, then it gets faster after about a second. Today I'm seeing 940 down and 500 up. Not sure if it is ISP or the device just getting slow. When I was using my USG-3P I normally see the symmetric 940 jump up to full speed immediately, without the initial hang up at 45Mbps. Ultimately, it is nice to see that it can prioritize the internet to do its primary job when it is just completely swamped by relatively modest network I have setup. This shows me that my true path forward is definitely the UXG-Lite while maintaining my RPI4 for the controller. I have no urgency to replace my USG-3P, but I would like to have the UXG-Lite at least available for shipping before the USG-3P crapps out so I am not caught with my pants down. I do have the ISP router I can pop in for an emergency, but I would like to stay in the ecosystem if possible. I will post another update after I setup the gateway at my parents in law's house.
Ubiquiti makes some pretty great products, but too many of them are constantly out of stock. I was definitely giving them a pass in 2020, 2021 etc, but this is starting to look like it is now intentional. They are simultaneously out of the express, uxg lite, UDR, and the USG-3P. The only non rack router that is available in the store is the UDM, which they are no longer advertising without searching for it. I know that the express and uxg lite are brand new, so maybe they can get a pass. The UDR has been out for well over a year. The UDM is just sort of too expensive to be bought without wifi6, and appears to be on the way out. Further, the U6-lite is also sold out. This just forces people to pay an extra $30 for the U6+ with wifi6 on the 2.4GHz radio, and I'm not really aware of anything that uses wifi6 on 2.4GHz (maybe new mobile phones etc, but they will be defaulting to 5GHz...). Ubiquiti even hired some B list actors to do an "Apple like" advertisement on their home page for the unifi express. Why? If you cannot produce enough to sell to people, why advertise for it? Is it to draw people in, and then force them to buy something more expensive?
Somewhat recently I had to update to the 64 bit version of Raspbian OS to use Unifi Network 7.x. I had to use the tutorial linked from pimylifeup. Today the apt update switched to the 8.x branch of distribution and it said my architecture of armhf was not supported. To fix it, I just had to edit the file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt-unifi.list from "arch=armhf" to "arch=arm64". If you were already running the latest 7.x then this should get you up and running. If you are upgrading from something older, visit the linked tutorial to get everything you need to be updated.

I just want basic running shoes that are $30/pair and will not change in any way for the next 40 years. Basically, I just want a pair of New Balance shoes on sale from joesnewbalanceoutlet.com for the good old price they used to offer 3 years ago. The only problem with them at the moment is they have raised the price floor to $40 and the style rotates too much. I just want the same stupid thing every time.
Some key features:
- a little rubber around the toe to keep the puddles out
- breathable top
- cushy bottom
- dont change
I hear a lot of this BIFL for shoes stuff. I have no intention of keeping my shoes longer than 6-9 months. At $30/pair, they are disposable. When I accidentally step in dog crap, they become disposable immediately.
I also have no interest in leather. Might last a long time, but for me it is like putting a ziplock bag on my feet and it turns into a swamp real fast.

Absolutely nothing other than voting. Any individual "reducing their plastic use" is just a drop in the ocean. The only meaningful change is through legislation or some economic situation. The only positive outcome of reducing your own plastic use is that warm and fuzzy feeling that you get from believing that you are doing something good.
However, I do not want to discredit that warm and fuzzy feeling. It brings people joy, and I think that is great.

I am using it for the flashlight. I hope to get fancy with a shortcut, but I don’t have one picked out yet.
I’m thinking maybe I will try it for my receipt scanning shortcut on a future business trip.
richie510 12 months ago • 100%
I’m also using for the flashlight.
It can only be accessed by the Lock Screen button and the control center widget. The camera can be activated by app, Lock Screen swipe, control center widget, Lock Screen button, search, etc.
I like the idea of using shortcuts to make it more flexible. However mute toggle and camera are not likely something I will pursue. (Why do people need to intermittently mute their phones, isn’t your phone always on mute?)

If I didn't get a new phone every year I would likely not load a backup. It takes a bit more time when you just "sign in to icloud" and then go from there, but the phone feels a lot more "new". Loading my old backup on a new phone just has too much familiarity in the way of app arrangement and whatnot.
As with any new phone, ensure all of your core apps work before resetting the old one. Often 2FA and stuff can get you in a catch 22 if you are not careful.

I'm more of an NPR guy...
The automation in the screenshot would only prompt me to run the shortcut in iOS 16, but now has the option to run automatically in iOS 17. FYI, this automation is great for my kids iPad. It seems to automatically connect when I leave the house, but then everything reconnects to WiFi when I get home. Loving it.

I'm really hoping that the general consensus on the betas improves so I can get onboard with my daily driver.
The stock kickstand on my Yuba Spicy Curry has been feeling shorter for some time lately, and the bike has not been staying put on slight inclines. Recently the right plastic piece fell off and then I realized it had been ground down to the metal. So I glued it back on upside down, and ripped the left side off and did the same. I expect this will give me a few months to figure something more permanent out. I was just at my local bike shop for my first service appointment. While there they informed me that the plastic end pieces are out of stock at Yuba... Looking further into replacements, this is all I could really find on the web: https://www.amazon.com/Shepherd-Hardware-9115-1-Inch-Plastic/dp/B000I17D38/ and that thing is for chairs. Truly, I would like to find something more substantial, and a little thicker to give me an extra 1/4 inch lift to keep the bike stable on uneven ground and steeper grades. FYI, this kickstand is stock on the spicy curry, but it is either included or compatible with the sweet curry, mundo, boda, and kombi.

For now, use them all. I’m using Memmy, mlem, liftoff, wefwef, lemmy.world as a PWA, and thunder. So far it seems Memmy, mlem and wefwef are the most “iOS” of the bunch, but several variants have their ups and downs. For example, when I want a link to a community in the cleanest form, I go to mlem (three dots in top level of community provides a share button). Memmy is my main daily driver and does my notifications. Wefwef is just amazing that it is a web app. Thunder and liftoff feel like what I expect android to feel like (material design).
I expect I will settle into Memmy, mlem and wefwef with some occasional web app and website usage of lemmy.world, it is great to try them all right now.
We have options with servers, and options with apps, and we have no need for monogamy among these fine options.

I don’t think they can, as is. The app itself has the url imbedded into it. The only way they could get it to work is by authenticating from a web page that indicates where it is.

After getting an electric cargo bike to haul the kids around, I cannot imagine not having the motor for any hill. Sometimes I ride the electric with no assist, and sometimes I don’t want to get sweaty and leave it on full assist mode (Bosch Turbo).
I still have a road bike for individual exercise, but the electric is amazing for transportation.

Two quick feature requests.
- Cannot see how to make a top level post on a community. I am commenting from wefwef here, so that is clear.
- Can you enable a “pull down to refresh” in the web app? Maybe this doesn’t make sense, but for me in iOS, it is just second nature and feels weird when it doesn’t stretch and bounce.

At first I thought this was just going to be a crappy remark from someone who spent two nights in Denver for a bachelor party. Instead it is an interesting piece that gave me some new perspective.

What I think is wild about Denver is that it as so much land dedicated to parks outside of the city. https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Agencies-Departments-Offices/Agencies-Departments-Offices-Directory/Parks-Recreation/Urban-Parks/Mountain-Parks However, these external parks do not likely add any value to the ranking in these lists.

I guess Reddit has learned nothing. At least I have learned a lot in the last few days.
My seven cats, three dogs and my rescued fox were all scared out of their minds from that abomination of noise plaguing our evening. NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MY FUR BABIES!
TL/DR: They would have invent a time machine, bring Jokic back in time to meet his mother at a high school dance, then Jokic would play an old time guitar song, that is actually newer than the time they went back to, Jokic's mom would fall for him not knowing he was her son and then Jokic would magically disappear from photographs (slowly) until the Nuggets never made the NBA finals in 2023 (slowly). It is a bit tricky, but it might just work.
I would argue you cannot have one with out the other... Will it take more than a day for the DCJ to show up here? edit: i posted without looking. DCJ is here too.
