Or the fact that it doesn't need to be real because 1. It's still funny and 2. We all know that the incident has happened somewhere, because shit like this happens so often.

exactly, either way you need to make sure there isn't any oncoming traffic.

If there isn't space to overtake two cyclists side by side, there isn't space to overtake one cyclist. If there's another car coming towards you while you overtake, you'd be endangering the one cyclist.

I'd guess with inflation you'd be right, but if we're sticking with the current value, what on Phase 2 justifies it costing the same as Phase 1?

You have to spend billions before laying track. That's true of any high speed rail. They've done a lot of groundwork and built a lot of structures, and they should be laying some track relatively soon.

Merced to Bakersfield is the initial operation segment, that is estimated to cost $28–35 billion, as per your link. This is the cheapest phase that you are referring to.
-
Phase 1 adds the segments to SF and Anaheim. This is projected to cost $130 billion.
-
Phase 2 adds segments to San Diego and Sacramento. These are a long way off and I haven't seen any cost estimates for it, but as you can see it doesn't triple the length of the system.
-
There is no Phase 3 in the official design.

So where does the $500 billion come from?
mondoman712 3 weeks ago • 100%
full phase 1 != the IOS. The IOS is predicted to be $28–35 billion. The full phase 1, which is SF and Merced to Anaheim, and also most of the entire network, is predicted to be $128bn (as per your quote).

The IOS is projected to commence revenue service as a self-contained high-speed rail system between 2030-2033, at a cost of $28–35 billion, and will replace current San Joaquins service south of Merced.
From the top of the page you linked. I see no reference to $130b.
The federal government can also fund infrastructure projects in states.

Source on the $500 billion?
And governments don't need to find money to fund capital projects. The US government can print money. They can effectively borrow money against the future economic growth that the project will provide, which is an easy bet with projects like this.

The 20mph has had a measurable impact in Wales, and it does lower average speeds even if more people are now driving over the limit. It really should come along with infrastructure changes to reflect the lower limits, but that would take decades and this is something that can be done quickly.

New roads don't reduce traffic, they create more. It's called induced demand. We should be building viable alternatives to driving.

You can get a permit to carry a gun in Switzerland if you actually have a good reason for it, like being a security guard. Otherwise you can transport it to your shooting range as long as it isn't loaded. So I wouldn't really say she could carry that in this context.

It wouldn't be difficult to write this script as a darktable plugin, but I imagine you'd struggle to convince the maintainers to merge code to allow for searching or categorising based on a custom metadata tag.
I'm less familiar with other programs, but I don't see any of the proprietary options implementing this.

There are multiple historic weather APIs available (example), it should be pretty trivial to write a script to read the location and time from the EXIF data of your images, call the API, and them dump the info into a list or back into the image metadata.

I'd previously assumed that the logo that showed up on the title screens for Moroccanoil was just another state owned oil company putting sponsorship money into random things, but the haircare ad at the end of yesterday's broadcast let me to do some investigating. It turns out Moroccanoil is an Israeli company and I haven't seen many people talking about the potential conflict of interest here that might explain the EBU's shady behaviour this year. I did find [this article](https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/sarah-irving/moroccanoil-israeli-hair-products-glamorize-apartheid) about them from 2015 which links to a video of sales reps from the company partying in what "may be" the occupied west bank. They also do appear on various [BDS lists](https://www.cjpme.org/fs_154). There is also [this article from The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/27242508/eurovision-israel-lose-prime-sponsor/) which does connect this to Eurovision this year, but it's from the sun so honestly that just makes the whole thing seem less credible. Given the lack of information that I've found, I'm wondering what people here think? Do you know anything else about this? Do you think the EBU's actions are related to this sponsorship? Do we even care because their behaviour was shitty whether their motivation was from the sponsorship or more directly political?
Not sure why it was out on this day, but this tram is used to clear snow from the tram tracks in Zurich.
