That's a good point. I haven't cooked anything with apple that could go soggy for years, so I hadn't thought of that. Pulled pork and apple pizza is sounding nice though :)

Just remember that you might not see anything with the naked eye, but a camera will pick up the colour. Last time, I was able to get out, and once my eyes were used to the dark, I could see faint grey lines and waves in the sky :)

Not my kid, but this made me laugh.

Picking my kid up from school after a funeral, I saw one of the teachers standing in the rain while sending the kids to their parents, so I stood next to him with my umbrella. One of the kids looked back at him to say goodbye, did a double take, and just stopped dead. Looking me up and down in my black suit, she asked the teacher 'Sir, is this your butler?'

It's a good article, but very generous. I live in the valleys, and there are a lot of racist people here. They obviously won't admit it if you ask them, but talk to them in the pub, or read their Facebook posts, and you'll see the truth.

It genuinely makes me sad to see how accepted it is here these days

    That's brilliant, thank you :)

Usually /mnt/whatever for static mounts and /media/whatever for removable mounts (those appear as drives in file managers, whereas /mnt doesn't).

Just to check, if I mount the drives under /media, will that still treat them as removable, or will they appear as permanent drives?

What's the best way to mount hard drives so that all users can access them at all times? Mint 22

Update: I managed to get it working with the answers from [@Max_P@lemmy.max-p.me](https://lemmy.max-p.me/u/Max_P) and this link: [https://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-permanently-mount-a-drive-in-linux-and-why-you-should/](https://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-permanently-mount-a-drive-in-linux-and-why-you-should/) ----------------------------------------- I've just installed Mint 22 on my laptop, and I've got two storage drives alongside my main drive. I want these drives to be available to all users on boot, and to be readable and writable. At the moment they're treated as removable drives, and are mounted under the individual user. As a result, any permissions that I'm setting as the owner are not sticking when they're mounted by another user. The first drive is synced with my main PC through Syncthing, and is synced to Onedrive from there. The second drive is my music, podcasts, and audiobooks, which are all synced through Syncthing only. I'm the only person using the laptop and accessing any of these files, so I'm not bothered about the wrong user accidentally opening them. I've read some posts about editing fstab to mount them at startup, but they don't cover whether the drives will be available to other users or not. Can I just add them to fstab and mount them somewhere that's available to all users, then sort out the permissions? If so, where's the best place to put them? Thanks in advance :)

I've learned that in motorcycle riding lessons. You have to constantly defend your safety bubble. If you let drivers see a gap that looks big enough they will try to squeeze through it and will push you off the road.

Yep, it's the same here in the UK. Years ago, when I did my bike test, the examiner would test the gaps I was leaving, so if I indicated to turn right, he would attempt to gently push his way into the gap on my right to make sure that I wasn't leaving room for someone to try to squeeze past.

Obviously he did it in a safe way to make sure that I would be safe on the road on my own :)

Kids don't care about it being super accurate to the source though, they see the Minecraft world with loads of blocks and blocky looking animals, and it's close enough. Then the Minecraft logo appears, and they're sold.

In your example, they would probably just hand wave it away as the mega blocks being different Lego blocks, and possibly get excited that there might be new Lego coming

Linux is obviously very good, but you are right, we give Linux a pass sometimes because we 'build' it. We tend to overlook its flaws because we want it to be better than the competition.

I've recently had an upgrade fail to the point of a reinstall, a folder that I can't share between two users on the same laptop, and shutdown buttons on two computers that disappeared. If those problems happened on Windows, I'd be really annoyed, but because they happened on Linux, I just fixed them and carried on.

And then you want the owner to pedal this to an RV dump station? That's simply not happening. Best case, they park it near a rainwater sewer drain and literally dump their shitpile in the road.

Unfortunately, that's going to be the main reason that vehicles like this won't be allowed to catch on. If you'll pardon the pun, there are shitty people on both sides of this - people who don't want to be reminded of 'the poors', and people who will dump literal shit outside other people's homes. Both of those groups help to stop us from having nice things :(

I wonder how much something like that would answer the why too. As an example, if a person threw something across a room and broke it without an obvious reason, could you look at a complete record of their history, and the history of the people around them, and figure out the reason. Would you be able to see signs of anger building through the day and look back to the root cause?

If you could have every answer to your history based questions, would you take them?

It turns out that something has been watching the Earth in minute detail since before the solar system was formed, down to a sub molecular level. It can give you the answers to any historical questions, but not things like what someone was thinking or feeling. All the world's problems have been solved, and the information is only used with the strictest privacy, e.g. you can only get information on living people with their permission, or if you're a member of law enforcement solving a crime. The question is, if you have a hobby, job, or other reason to research the past, like being a geologist or genealogist, would you take the answers, or would you prefer to do the research yourself?

Can a Linux installation be run as a VM in Windows?

This might sound daft, but something similar used to work with live discs. I've got Windows 10 and Mint 21.1 dual booting on my computer at the moment. Every so often I'll realise that I've missed something from my Windows installation. If it's important, I then have to boot to Windows to get the information, or the settings etc. Is there a way to virtualise my Mint installation so that I can run both the OSs at once to make sure that I've got everything? VirtualBox had a tool to do this with a live USB, but that was back in the MBR days, so it probably won't work with modern hardware. EDIT: Sorry, I should clarify, Mint and Windows are on the same physical disk, and the plan is to remove Windows once I'm done. Update: I'm giving up. It looks like it is possible if you have separate disks with separate boot partitions, but getting it to work with a shared boot partition is harder work than I'm willing to do right now. VMware Player can use a partition or disk, but might be in read only mode, I couldn't get far enough to check. Thanks for all the replies :)

My laptop hinge just ripped its screws right out.

I've just finished getting my laptop set up the way I like it, including maximising the RAM and upgrading the screen. I opened it up to use it, and the screws on the hinge tore through the plastic. To top it off, the plastic on the bottom of the laptop, the side that's been removed here, has also broken. My wife definitely didn't drop the laptop while she was tidying up though... EDIT: Apologies all, I'm having trouble with Lemmy today, and it's not letting me reply. I'll try to reply tomorrow, but in the meantime; It's a Stonebook branded Clevo n751BU, a 7th gen i5. It's held up respectably well until it appears to have been knocked in the corner where the hinge is. The plastics on both sides of the hinge have given out. I've ordered a replacement base, but the palm rest which is pictured is not available anywhere that I can find. I'm going to dismantle the hinge to clean and oil it, then reassemble it slightly less tightly, and epoxy the screws into place. The reason for taking it apart in the first place was to add a third hard drive. It has an nvme drive, and I had two HDDs going spare that can hold my documents and music. They're being synced now as I was having problems doing it remotely, but once they're in they can be managed with Syncthing. The laptop shouldn't need to come apart agin afterwards :) I've been building and repairing computers and laptops for about 30 years, so I'm comfortable with completely stripping it, and can use it as an excuse to give everything a clean again. Short of replacing these HDDs with SSDs, there's nothing else that can physically be upgraded, so I'm half tempted to glue it shut so that I don't get tempted again :D

    What is Calypso? (Discovery spoilers)

Hi all :) I've recently watched the final episode of Discovery, and it's left me with some questions. I'm just posting a line of text here to avoid any spoilers from showing up on people's timelines. At the end of the episode, after the main story finished, Burnham went back to Discovery and spoke to Zora. She had a flashback, then took Discovery to some far off location to wait. Other posts I've seen have mentioned that this ties in to Calypso and seemed to suggest that Burnham's son also has something to do with it. The problem is, I have no idea what Calypso is, and that's made me wonder what else I'm missing. I've seen the posts about the academy series and Section 31 movie, but can someone fill me in please? EDIT: Thanks for the answers, looks like I need to watch the Discovery Shorts :)

Looking for a collaborative notes app

Hi all, I need your expertise please :) tldr: I'm looking for something to create and share lists with my wife, but that also allows her to edit them, preferably with a WYSIWYG editor, on both our Android devices and Windows and Linux computers. To complicate things, I help to run a small music festival, and some sort of collaboration tool would be helpful there too. Joplin looks great, but I can't figure out the collaboration without using their server. The longer version is, I'm taking my family to visit the in-laws, and was making a list of things we need to take. I have complicated medical needs, and my kid is autistic, so there are things that we cannot forget. I realised that a list that we can both work on would be better, and would be something that we could use in the future for things like medical appointments. While I was looking for some software, I realised that it would also be helpful for the music festival committee. I'm looking for something that we can edit on any device, and have the changes show up immediately on any other logged in device. I want anyone with permission to be able to edit the document too. Ideally it needs a WYSIWYG editor, and needs to be simple to use once it's set up. Joplin looks great, but it's not clear whether collaboration is only available through Joplin Cloud, or whether it's available with a self hosted server. Etherpad and Padland look good, but Etherpad doesn't currently have mobile support, and I can't tell whether Padland is standalone or needs Etherpad to work. I'm happy to self host something, but the simpler it is to run and use, the better :) Thanks for reading through all of that :D

Does anyone know of any decent accounting software for Windows and Linux?

Hi all :) I'm setting up a small business in the UK, and need some accounting software to keep track of everything, and generate invoices, that sort of thing. I tried Wave a few years ago, and it looks like it does what I need, but is US based and proprietary. [https://www.waveapps.com/](https://www.waveapps.com/) It has the option of linking to your bank account too, and automatically pulling your transactions etc. This is quite important, as I'm trying to get diagnosed with ADHD, and have a terrible memory. I won't remember to manually enter transactions regularly. Being able to use it on Android and Windows / Linux would be ideal. I can self host it if there are any options that work. Does anyone have any ideas please?

What do I need for an online private server?

Hi all :) I've been playing Minecraft with the family, and running a local PaperMC server for a while now, and last year set up an online server with the Oracle free tier. I've had a load of failed login attempts recently, and the server crashed. I don't know if they were related, but it made me realise that I've missed a few steps during the setup. I have a domain that points to the server through Cloudflare, so it's easier to share, and I've got a whitelist / allowlist of Minecraft users to keep it private. My thinking is that this is what I want: Domain name through Cloudflare to stop things like DDoS attacks, and to have https certificates (might need LetsEncrypt too?). PaperMC server running on an Ubuntu server on Oracle's free tier. 2 cores and 10GB RAM should be enough for less than a dozen players. Pterodactyl control panel to manage the server through a GUI from anywhere. Firewall / block to stop connections from outside the UK. Hopefully that should restrict bots and malicious login attempts. I've got a handful of plugins that I use, like Geyser / Floodgate and ViaVersion so the kids can log in from any client, and Dynmap so I can view the map and help them out if needs be. I've got CoreProtect and ServerBackup too. I've got OpenAudioMC so that the kids can speak to each other without putting them on something open like Discord, as they're too young for that. I'm looking into AutoPlug at the moment to keep the plugins up to date, but I don't know if it runs with Pterodactyl or not. Am I missing anything obvious? I'm happy with the gameplay side of things for now, but I could do with some advice on keeping everything secure. Thanks in advance :)

Looking for a minimal distro for a virtual machine

Hi all :) I manage a handful of websites and their emails using the PortableApps suite on Windows, so have a separate browser and mail client for each one. This has worked well for years, but now I'm switching to Linux, Mint specifically. I've read that I can set up profiles on Firefox and probably Thunderbird, or maybe run separate instances with things like AppImages, but it sounds like it's a messy solution, and could end up with me using the wrong profile by mistake What I want to do is set up a virtual machine for each site, and have a completely separate instance of the programs, and hopefully a way to easily transfer the machines to other systems if needs be. I'd prefer to use a Debian / Ubuntu based distro with Apt and the 'Windows' style desktop, as that's what I'm already used to, but am I better off installing Mint and stripping it down, or is there something more suited to this? Thanks in advance :)

Can I mod my ebike (UK)?

Hi all :) I've just bought a Vitesse Force ebike. It was second hand, but brand new as the previous owner bid on two separate auctions and won both (he's someone I trust, so I believe him). Other than a few tweaks, the bike is great, but I want to make it even better if possible. The main thing I want to change is the walk assist speed. As I understand it, in the UK we can't have powered ebikes, they can only move very slowly when you're not pedalling. I tested the speed yesterday, and on a slope it's barely fast enough to stay upright. The main reason that I bought an ebike is because I'm disabled and overweight, and live in the middle of a load of hills. I'm hoping to get the walk assist speed up just high enough to get me up a hill to the nearest flat cycle path so that I can ride, or home again afterwards if I've overdone it. For now I can't pedal continuously for long enough to get to the top, and the pedal assist stops when I stop. The other thing I'm curious about changing is the number of gears. The bike is a seven speed, but I've never used an ebike before, so I don't know if that's enough for when I want to turn the pedal assist off. The bike is here for anyone interested: [https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/16183641/vitesse-force-mtb-wm-electric-bike-16183641](https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/16183641/vitesse-force-mtb-wm-electric-bike-16183641) I'd be grateful for any advice :)

According to my camera's focus assist, this is perfectly focused

Went out on a rare clear night to a wetlands near me to take some photos of the stars. As it was so dark, and the stars are so small, I had to rely on the focus peaking function of my camera to tell if the stars were in focus or not. I've got home and started to process the photos, and I've found out that despite the camera telling me that they were in focus, they clearly weren't. Hey ho, what's a wasted few hours in the freezing cold between friends...

How do you add buildings when the map is crooked?

Sorry, crooked isn't the best word, but I can't think of a better one. I'm still quite new to OSM, and I want to start adding the buildings in my town. When I open the edit option though, the map overlay is at an angle. It's not a massive amount, but it's enough that you can see one sometimes two sides of most buildings, so the roof isn't aligned straight down, if that makes sense? I live near Aberdare in South Wales, and you can see that where someone has added some buildings in the town centre at some point, they're now not aligned with the map overlay: [https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=20/51.71312/-3.44499](https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=20/51.71312/-3.44499) Do I draw around the roof that I can see on the map? Do I edit the existing buildings so that they line up with the overlay? I'm not sure what the best course of action is for something like this. Thanks in advance :)

Can I use Voyager on my PC?

Apologies if this is a simple question and I've missed something, but I'd like to be able to use Voyager on my PC. If I just log in on my browser, I only get logged in to my home instance. If I use wefwef.app, I can browse like I'm on my phone, but without my preferences and block list. Is there a way to use Voyager and sync my preferences, block list, subscriptions etc?

Need help repairing or replacing a Xiaomi Mi 10t Lite 5g (UK)

Update: My wife has decided to go for the repair. I managed to find the parts for about £30, and we're getting it done in a local place next week. Thanks for the advice :) Hi all :) My wife has dropped her Mi 10t Lite 5g one too many times, and now as well as a cracked screen, it won't charge. As far as I can tell, the charging port has come loose. I'm hoping to get an estimate of the repair price, as all the local shops are closed until next week, but I'm also hoping to find some possible replacements to give her some options. She mainly uses it for Facebook, emails, and WhatsApp, and some of the farming games where you seem to just click crap randomly. She also connects it to her car for maps and music, and takes photos of our kid. A micro SD slot is essential, mostly due to the amount of music and photos she stores on it. I'm hoping to spend around £200, but that's flexible if there's a jump in quality or features. Thanks in advance :)

Need some help with Xubuntu networking please.

Hi all :) Apologies for the long writeup, but I'm not sure if the background is important or not. I've got a media server currently running Xubuntu (getting ready to be transitioned to a proper server OS before anyone asks), and I've been having a problem with static IP addresses. About a year ago I was having a problem with the ethernet card switching from a static IP to DHCP, and screwing up the services that depended on the IP address. It appeared to be a problem with my ISP router (BT SmartHub 2). I thought I'd fixed it, and didn't have any trouble for a while. I added a second ethernet card to split my traffic. My VPN doesn't allow split tunneling on Linux, and I wanted some traffic to go through the VPN while some bypassed it. I hadn't set anything up for that yet, but did give the second ethernet card a static IP address. I changed the DNS servers on both to go through my AdGuard installation on the same machine, and some other ad blocking DNS servers. When I first installed the second ethernet card I had a few problems, but my network switch died at the same time, and replacing it appeared to cure the issues. The issues were similar to before, in that I couldn't get a static IP to stick. To now - Last night we were having some power issues in the area, power surges and brownouts. In the time that it took me to get to my PC and log in to the media server to shut it down, it had rebooted at least three times. I shut everything down successfully, and after I turned everything back on this morning, the services like Plex that don't need the IP all seemed to be working properly. After my kid went to bed, I tried to log onto the server to check it. Nothing that needed the IP address would work. I tried the second IP address and that was the same. I managed to log in with NoMachine and saw that there were two new ethernet connections, both set to DHCP, and they were being used instead of the previous connections. The previous connections apparently haven't been used for the last six days. I tried deleting one of the new connections to see if it would force Xubuntu to use the old ones, and it seemed to work, but deleting the second one cut off the network connections completely. After connecting a monitor and peripherals to the server, I could see an option for an Auto Connection in the network dropdown menu, and that let me connect again. My previous connections are still in the network manager with all the static IP settings, but there are two new Auto Ethernet connections too, using DHCP. Can anyone give me a clue as to what's happened here please? I thought it was a problem caused by the power problems, but it's apparently been going on for almost a week. Apologies in advance if I'm slow to reply for the next few days, and thank you in advance for any help :)

How can I get free or cheap artwork for a project if I can't draw and don't want to use AI?

A few years ago I became seriously ill. I was in a coma on heavy duty meds, and had a kidney transplant. I'm much better than I was, but I can't do a lot of things like I could before. We've now got quite a few kids in the extended family, so a while ago I wrote a short story to try to make it easier for them to understand. My wife and family like the story and have suggested making it into a picture story book. Problem is, I can't draw and my imagination isn't very good. How can I get pictures for the story if I can't do it myself and don't have the money to hire someone? I want to avoid using AI tools because of the potential copyright issues. I haven't tried the services like Fiverr because I've heard that they force a race to the bottom on prices, but does anyone have any experience, or have any ideas of what I can do please? Thanks in advance :)

Is there a legal way to download old installation discs for free?

A few years ago I bought an old Mac, PowerPC I think, but it doesn't work properly. If I boot normally only one of the two CPU cores works, but both work in safe mode. I imagine that there are ways to repair it, but as it's second hand, I would probably be better off with a clean installation. I've never owned a Mac before, so although it's outdated, I'd rather get it back to a default state than install Linux, and it also means that once I've finished with it I can pass it on to someone else who would appreciate it. Is there a way to get the installation media? From what I remember from the last time I tried to get it running, it can use either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion (10. something?) Thanks in advance :)

Can't scroll up on the All feed without the feed refreshing

If I scroll past something in All and want to go back to it, I'm finding that sometimes I can't. The feed acts as if I grabbed the top of the screen and refreshes. Just to be annoying, it doesn't always do this. Most of the time it works as expected, and lets me scroll. It doesn't happen inside posts or communities, only the All feed. I've just checked Home and Local too, and don't get the issue. EDIT: This is on the Android app EDIT: I just went to the Github issue to add my report and noticed that my app updated yesterday after I was having the issue, and I haven't had it again yet. I'll hold off reporting unless it happens again with the current version of the app.

FOSS ereader app that syncs the page read?

Hi all :) I'm looking for a Kindle app replacement for my phone and Kindle Fire, ideally one that can get my Amazon books if possible. I want to be able to add books through Calibre, and sync them to the furthest page read on all devices, and I want to be able to store all my books without the app removing them. Does anyone know of an app that does this please?

    Any good tools for switching?

Are there any good tools for listing your current programs, maybe exporting settings etc. Listing hidden settings and save locations would be great too. I'm about 90% ready to switch to Linux full time, and I want to make sure that I've got everything. I've got a horrible feeling that I'm missing something, but I can't think what it might be. EDIT: Ironically, I forgot to mention my ADHD / memory issues. I could do with a tool like this because I forget about anything that I'm not currently using, or actively thinking about using soon >.<

Looking for suggestions for the top of this desk

Hi all :) Apologies, I know this isn't a woodworking question, but I don't know of a better place to ask about restoring a desk like this. It's an oak desk, but it looks like there used to be a felt inlay, or maybe vinyl. The top of the desk has an inlay of plywood, with a small raised edge to the oak, of maybe 2 - 3mm. Staining or varnishing doesn't seem to be an option, as the style of the plywood doesn't match the rest of the desk, so I'm looking for ideas for the top. Felt or vinyl would be the obvious options, but I'm hoping to hear some other ideas. It's going to be used as an office desk, with two computer monitors and a keyboard and mouse, but also for writing, mostly notes rather than anything serious. The underside of the plywood has oak planks running from front to back, so there's the option of removing the plywood and putting in another piece of wood, but I don't want to spend too much if I can help it. Does anyone have any suggestions or feedback please? Thanks in advance :) EDIT: Sorry if I'm a bit slow to reply tonight, I'm having a mad dash to tidy up and make room for the new desk. I've managed to plan everything backwards (again...) Note for myself - the lip is 1mm and the plywood is 3mm, as best as I can tell without dismantling anything

How hard is it to move Docker containers to another system?

Or another container type if there's a better one? My server was originally connected to my TV to run Kodi and play some games while serving files, so it's running Xubuntu. While it works well for the most part, I want to set it up properly, and be able to move the services to a new system when the time comes. I was thinking that Docker, or another container system, would probably be best, because as well as hopefully being able to be moved, installing new software shouldn't affect anything else. Am I on the right track? Can containers be moved to another system without needing to be set up again? I'm running the *arr suite two Java Minecraft servers Plex media server Two copies of qBittorent NZBGet Ombi Mylar Codex and probably some others that I've forgotten. While I'm at it, is there a best OS to base everything on? Preferably free. The server is a 4th generation i5 with 32GB RAM, and currently about 10TB of HDD space, with a small SSD for boot, and a Quadro graphics card for transcoding. Thanks in advance :)

Where can I find the detailed rules for Real Debrid?

I found the site and tried to check, but it wouldn't show me anything without being logged in, so I created an account. Now that I'm signed in though, I can only find vague rules, like >The User's account is for personal use only. Only the individual who holds the account is allowed to connect on it. Connections to the User's account are recorded so that we can detect account sharing. The User agrees to keep his login secret, We won't offer technical support for account hacking. How does this work with a phone or laptop, for example? What if I sign in at my parents house when I visit for a few days? Can anyone help please?

    MediaMonkey Linux and Android alternative?

Hi all :) I've been using MediaMonkey on Windows 10 and Android to organise my music, playlists, audiobooks, and podcasts, including syncing them to my phone. MediaMonkey has let me down again, so I'm looking to switch, and as I'm trying to switch to Linux too, now would be a good time to get a Linux media manager. One of the main ways that I use MM is by either building a playlist and transferring the whole thing, or adding to a playlist and just syncing the new tracks. I prefer the tracks to be placed in their artist / album directory though, rather than a directory for the playlist. I also use MM on Windows to organise my tracks with online metadata, usually from Discogs, so that it matches the entry for the album. I store my media under music\sorted\album artist\album name\track no - artist - title, with a similar setup for audiobooks and podcasts, and would prefer to do the same with the new software. Does anyone know of anything that can do this please? I've looked at Strawberry and Cinnamon, but development seems to have stopped, and I don't know enough about things like flaws and bugs to know if they're still safe to use. Thanks in advance for your help :)

What's the best Epson scanner software for Mint?

I've got an Epson Stylus SX435W all in one. It's working with Image Scan! for Linux 2.30.4, but is not being detected by Epson Scan 2. I've checked everything I can find, it just looks like my scanner is too old for the software. Simple Scan seems to be too simple, but I don't want to have to launch something like GIMP and manually tweak everything. I ideally want something with a built in colour enhancement tool like the Epson Windows software, and something that will remember the directory and name of the scan e.g. if I set it to ~/Pictures/Scans/Scan001.jpg, the next scan will automatically be ~/Pictures/Scans/Scan002.jpg etc. Descreening and Backlight Correction are both tools that I use fairly regularly too, as I mostly scan old photos. There's a screenshot of the Windows Epson software on this page if it helps: [https://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/wfp4520/wfp4520ug/source/scanners/source/scanning_software/tasks/starting_scan_icon.html](https://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/wfp4520/wfp4520ug/source/scanners/source/scanning_software/tasks/starting_scan_icon.html) Does anyone know of anything that might be a good alternative please? EDIT: I'm just trying out XSane now. XSane and Image Scan! both give a slight colour cast, purple on this particular photo, but XSane seems to have more control over the settings. I'm currently avoiding VueScan due to the price. While it does look like it's great software, I can't currently justify paying £50 when I've already got working software under Windows.

What are the edits like this, and what do they mean?

I've just opened the OSM site on my PC to have a look at the history in my area, and I've seen this apparently massive edit. It covers most of the US, a lot of Canada, and a significant chunk of Europe and the UK. wheelmap_visitor says that 'This is a proxy user for all wheelchair tag changes happening on Wheelmap by anonymous users of the website and app Wheelmap.org.' so does this mean that if someone has made edits to areas inside the rectangle at some point recently that they all get included in this edit?

How long does it usually take for edits to show up in apps?

Hi all :) This is more of a curiosity question than anything else. About two or three weeks ago, I added two buildings and the businesses inside them through the OSM website. I haven't had a chance to do anything else yet. I installed Organic Maps earlier to try it out, but noticed that my buildings weren't there. I tried OSMAnd+ and Street Complete too, but they still weren't there. They are there in Every Door though. Is this normal? Does it take a while for updates to filter through to apps, or have I done something wrong?

I was packing my bike, when I realised that I hadn't attached the second set of luggage. It connects under the seat...

EDIT: Sorry, I was tired when I posted this, and didn't realise that it made no sense to anyone else. I've got a set of panniers for the bike that attach under the seat, and they hold the smaller things, like my clothes and toiletries. I remembered after I'd already attached my camping equipment to the top of the seat, meaning that it would have to be removed to fit the other luggage.

Things like this turn people off from Linux

I run Mylar on my Xubuntu server to manage my comic collection. I found out recently that there's a tool that can convert the embedded .jpgs to .webp to save space, but it only works on cbz files and not cbr (zipped vs rar for those who don't know). I wanted to convert all of my cbr to cbz so that I could run the tool on all my comics, so I needed to search hundreds of subdirectories for them and move them to the same folder to be processed. Under Windows, I'd just type *.cbr into the search bar built into Explorer from the root comic directory, hit enter to get a list of files, select them all, and move them to the new folder. On Xubuntu, it's nothing like as simple. I found the search option in Thunar which opened Catfish, typed in *.cbr, and got a no files found message. After looking through the very limited options, I started searching for a way to do it. About thirty minutes later I'd found dozens of links telling me to use different, Terminal only, tools, but nothing about how to search subdirectories from the Catfish GUI. Purely by accident, I found a post from 2012 that mentioned the fact that Catfish doesn't use wildcards, so just search with .cbr, something that's not mentioned in the official docs. I tried it, and it searched the subdirectories too, and found my files! Except there was no way to copy or cut and paste, just open, show in file manager, copy location, save as, or delete. No good options for almost 500 files across several dozen locations. I ended up asking Chat GPT how to do it, and doing it through the Terminal, using this: 'find . -type f -name "*.cbr" -exec mv {} /path/to/destination \;' This is pretty basic functionality, and I had to resort to getting help to use the Terminal :(
