On this day 10 years ago, Microsoft acquired [#Minecraft](https://wikis.world/tags/Minecraft) developer Mojang for US$2.5 billion. [https://minecraft.wiki/w/Mojang\_Studios#History](https://minecraft.wiki/w/Mojang_Studios#History) In a blog post announcing the purchase, Owen Jones wrote: "Everything is going to be OK. \<3" [http://web.archive.org/web/20140915131835/https://mojang.com/2014/09/yes-were-being-bought-by-microsoft/](http://web.archive.org/web/20140915131835/https://mojang.com/2014/09/yes-were-being-bought-by-microsoft/) Ten years later, Mojang now has been part of Microsoft almost twice as long as it has been independent. It's interesting to look back at the original announcement video from Xbox as well: [https://youtu.be/lXNWchwDiG8](https://youtu.be/lXNWchwDiG8) [@minecraft](https://lemmy.world/c/minecraft)
I upgraded the redstone trap I built so that now I can catch zombie mobs in more than one space. Used up all the chicken eggs and made some baby chicks in the process and growing wheat to use for livestock and found a sheep close by. Used some metals and leather to make armor and used up my most of my iron tools as well. Expanded the cabin I built into a building with an extra floor above for potential use or if anyone wanted to occupy one of my many buildings.
Snapshot 24w37a has been released and it brings some neat tweaks and bug fixes! Ender pearls now load chunks, which makes cross-dimension travel much more reliable! (plus easier chunk loading with stasis chambers 👀) Also, one of the most (in)famous [#Minecraft](https://wikis.world/tags/Minecraft) bugs, MC-119369, has been fixed: Boats crashing and breaking into sticks and planks when falling certain heights. [https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-119369](https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-119369) Read all about this on the [#MinecraftWiki](https://wikis.world/tags/MinecraftWiki): [https://minecraft.wiki/w/Java\_Edition\_24w37a](https://minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_24w37a) [\#MinecraftSnapshots](https://wikis.world/tags/MinecraftSnapshots) [@minecraft](https://lemmy.world/c/minecraft)
Changes coming to how Minecraft is being developed: \- Mob votes are no more 🦀🦀🦀 \- One big update per year, smaller "game drops" throughout the year \- Minecraft Live will happen twice per year More on that and other changes can be found on official blog update [https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/the-future-of-minecrafts-development](https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/the-future-of-minecrafts-development) [\#Minecraft](https://wikis.world/tags/Minecraft) [#MinecraftLive](https://wikis.world/tags/MinecraftLive) [@minecraft](https://lemmy.world/c/minecraft)
I've been spending time in ancient cities and I'm wondering what the lore is around them. Was sculk a parasite? Did villagers build them? Are ancient cities related to trail ruins? They're so intriguing to me, but I can't imagine how they got there
Is there a way to get villagers with separated arms on bedrock? Would I need to write my own addon? I don't see anything built for that currently. My end goal would be to get villagers to look like dwarfs, like this resource pack. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/texture-packs/mypowerbobs-fantasy-villagers
Let's say I'm just a member on a server and the admin has disabled this feature. Maybe using some sort of hack client?
Hello everyone, Finally managed to get a modded world stable enough to have a few large machines running and enjoy their use, including an autonomous concrete factory. With that I've built some walls and then realized I don't have any real experience with modern architecture... so I've got a giant white brick surrounding my machines. Honestly, I'm not used to building on this scale either so I'm not sure how to make this look nice on multiple fronts. One thing I do know though; I don't like glass curtain-walls so I'd rather not do that for this building in spite of it certainly being big enough. ![](https://dormi.zone/pictrs/image/4bea1b63-41e5-4b0e-9396-df6ba35863f5.png) Any ideas?
Most people's nether portals are inside their base or only a short distance away. Use this information to how you want.
When a monster falls into the hole, I just pull the lever and crush the monster who steps in it. EDIT: ![](https://lemmus.org/pictrs/image/38a06046-5174-400d-bf40-8a97a71d201e.webp)

Alternative link: https://invidious.darkness.services/watch?v=4XmJPb4Qt5Y Mojang demonstrate how some of the games sound effects were made; from modern sounds, also going back to some of the older sounds. I find it cool that they recorded real dolphin sounds themselves. The way the phantom was recorded was outright creepy.
I only started playing Minecraft a couple of months ago. My son (6) wanted to play it and I wanted to check it out first and got hooked it’s a fun game to play at work during breaks. The green markers are each of my bases.
Trying to see if I can add a turn based movement system. The only way I can think of is by setting a worldborder centered on a player for their turn. But theres a few problems: No vertical limiting, other players could use it if they are close enough, it looks kind of ugly and the border is square (yes I know minecraft is square) :-)
I find in retrospect that the legacy console versions of the game were always so much more cozy than Java or Bedrock. The worlds really felt more like your own home in the classic versions; not just a near-infinite display of eternally explorable land that always feels foreign. To an extent, you needed to be more careful with your resources too, as sometimes they were extremely rare and you could cause an item or block to go "extinct" in the world, because you carelessly threw it out. You can see that as a hassle, but I found it a more realistic and fun experience having to think a bit more about how you managed the world. Unlike the infinite worlds, you can't just fly off to some far-off part of the world you never visit and demolish an entire beach or desert for infinite sand, because, with the limited world size, you would be tearing up your own home and making the world look ugly (unless you're the YouTuber ibxtoycat who loves doing things like that 😂). I miss the small worlds, and even though the engine limitations of that old version would have made it a stretch, I would have loved to see the recent updates (1.15-1.21) come to the game. There was a charm to multiplayer survival worlds in Legacy, too. Because of the small size, you would bump into your friends just doing their own things, minding their own business in the worlds so much more often than in infinite worlds, where they could be hundreds of thousands, to millions of blocks apart from each other and only interact through the in-game chat or voice-chat. The world as a result felt so much more alive with multiple players. I miss the old console version...
I host my own Minecraft server and have `online-mode` set to false in `serer.properties.` Now, I want others to join but I don't expect them to buy a legitimate copy of Minecraft. Isn't that why we use this setting `online-mode`? In the ol' days (1.8 and post), I remember using some copy of Minecraft where I could just change my username on every start of this client, and join my server. Period. Done. I want the same again. Is this possible? In a non-illegal way? What about grey-area? I don't care about security or impersonation (partly).
Hello everyone, My friends and I would like to play a modded world together now that we've found 'The Essentials' mod which allows us to circumvent our previous issues with multiplayer. However we've had some issues with finding good modpacks. None of us are experts so we've just been trying ones we've found. We've mostly tried 'Create on a Potato PC Ultimate' and 'Create: Arcane Engineering'. Create on a Potato PC was/is great but we have a minor crashing issue. Arcane Engineering integrates the mod so much it makes trying to primarily work with one frustrating. My friends have also tried Create Chronicals and found it to just be altogether too much. What we're looking for is a pack with Create (addons desired but not needed) and an in-depth magic mod like Botania or Ars Magica. Any suggestions?
My family doesnt know i have a Microsoft acc/email acc. Im worried that if i sign into my Minecraft with my Microsoft acc then my family member who has their email and phone number hooked up to my PS4 account will get an email/text about it. (For context im not allowed to have an email (or anything like that) so if they were to find out that would lead to a bunch of drama i cant deal with again. (they have found out about old emails and stuff in the past and lost their minds about it.)) the ps4 account DOES have parental controls/etc on it.
So far, I've beat - 1.3 - 1.7.10 - 1.8.9 - 1.16.1 - 1.17.1
We haven't tooted for a while did we? Oh well. This means we have more to share for upcoming days. Do you remember Herobrine? Due to extensive work of Enderboss25, the very streams where Herobrine first appeared in video have been recovered. You can watch recovered streams on YouTube as uploaded by brutallillfjomp who did have those recorded and uploaded on YouTube as private videos, now published for everyone to see. Post title says it all. I already looked on Modrinth and other platforms, but was unable to find what I was looking for. They all seem to remove/disable the new soundtrack, but I'd prefer to have a different approach of just "balancing" the old soundtrack back into the mix by making the C418 tracks more frequent. Ideally, it would also retain the weighted functionality that adjust the music to the situation/biome you are in. Another bonus point would be incorporating the tracks of the C418 MC albums which were not included even in the old soundtrack
I was casually listening to a band I love on Bandcamp a second ago called Justice, listening to their album [Woman Worldwide](https://etjusticepourtous.bandcamp.com/album/woman-worldwide), before I suddenly, out of nowhere had a nostalgia-overload nerd cry when I heard a remix in the album of the song that played in the pretty famous [Better Together update trailer](https://youtu.be/vyr3XZrZssk) from 2017 that announced the cancelled Super Duper Graphics Pack. Turns out that Justice are the ones that made that original song. The original is called [Alakazam !](https://etjusticepourtous.bandcamp.com/track/alakazam) from the album [Woman](https://etjusticepourtous.bandcamp.com/album/woman)
Hey gang, I'm trying to find a mod or resource pack that well make the overworld and nether generate the same islands in the void that the end does. I've seen sky-lands but I can't get it to work, it says it's too old for 1.21 and too new for 1.20.6. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can do this?
