I think I can explain it. I think it's abnormal behavior to downvote outside of misinformation or out of context. I also think it's abnormal to ban anyone who downvotes, but both of you have the right to do so. Neither of you broke a site-wide rule, unless you didn't follow the guidelines in their community sidebar before participating. Them choosing to remove the mod is the communities right and I support that. I look at the form of downvoting you're conducting as a form of vote brigading (socially, not directed by an individual but a group effort nonetheless with evidence by the bans). If bans for non-participation go out and downvotes continue, they can better get a grasp of what the actual community wants. Atm they're just following what the "All" feed tells them without being able to differentiate.

I'm not a vegan, none of those memes you've posted make me feel personally attacked nor do I feel insulted. I'm glad for the clarification, but I was expecting something much worse like a vegan death cult manifesto by the reactions here.

You don't want to silence yourself from a community you're not a part of by your own admission? Do you really feel it's your duty to go into every community and mandate their content and tone to your liking?

I guess you can look at it as "hiding" to curate your feed by removing the communities you're not interested in. I don't think you're really challenging their opinions, just kinda being a douche. I see plenty of shit posted about windows or apple users, we're not pitch forking everyone that posts a spicy meme. We insult the rich and powerful etc, what class of protection are you proposing to secure? The omnivores? Who's going to police what's hostile or insulting? I don't understand what this call to action is trying to implement or suggest besides outside policing of communities which is one of the reasons the fediverse was made to combat that type of control.

Ok, I tend to think I'm a decent human being but I don't understand your logic and I can only see your comments as negative. Please help me understand the differences in our thought train.

    • People are downvoting content (abusing the intended purpose of a downvote) they're seeing without even being involved in a community
    • Mod of that community bans users (common with vote brigading) who aren't real active users, users can no longer see the content satisfying your dismay of seeing it in your feed (instead of blocking the community)
    • You then accuse the mod of stopping people downvoting who don't like the community who aren't a part of that community?

You're actually acknowledging you've "downvoted a lot of their memes" because of previous un-related content, continuing to abuse the downvote and even pointed out the mod was effective at stopping the vote brigading from people outside the community. I have no clue about the Vegan situation myself, but I thought a mod had completely autonomy to run their community the way they want and the point of decentralization was the ability to move into another space when needed.

people really need to stop confusing an upvote/downvote to basic democratic voting. There is no ticker above the ballot box letting you know how everyone voted before you, there is no "policy" or "elected position" being voted on. This is more akin to an open conference debate where people are booing or yaying when someone speaks up about a topic. Your privacy on a public forum discussion never existed to begin with, people in a public setting know their anonymity isn't guaranteed.

I'm just tired of my electronics doing "extra". I want to pause the video/player, I don't want that to activate other activities for my device to perform...I just want to pause the fucking video. They're all guilty of this though, either they show ads or screenshots of what they want you to watch next. I can't even pause a video anymore to look at something or show something. The amount of times I've paused to have a discussion and the distracting shit plays in the background annoyed me to the point I no longer use the "smart tv" to watch anything and only use the tv hooked up to the comp so I can actually control and have a pleasant viewing experience.

The whole premise of the article? There's 2 statements in the entire article that you've highlighted, a rather long and lengthy article about the development and history behind the game developer. Your statements of "what the article is saying" is completely false,

is pretending the sale is some runaway success in the west

    where does it say this?

article completely ignores the source of the sales volume

Article clearly states it's sales, touches on the current chinese population use of steam, I'm not sure what you're saying should be the "correct" thing that would satisfy you. Maybe you could provide an example?

The actual impact it’s going to have is much less on the development of AAA games by Chinese studios and much more as a demonstration of the Chinese market’s interest in single player games.

That's a valid statement with a lot of factors (younger generations play more multiplayer). It wasn't the scope of this article to break down consumer purchasing trends within a category (this thing is already long enough).

This seemed like a very milquetoast level style of an article highlighting the success and development of a game studio, I suppose everyone complains in the gaming industry now adays (myself included) so I'll take your negativity more as a "gamer" thing than just hating on something not from the west. I'm rather glad to be exposed to news articles on here that aren't NA eccentric that I'm always reading. Them not highlighting and differentiating themselves from the western market has seemed to gotten you into a hissy fit.

It's so transparent how much of a hard-on you're getting with your justice rage. "I'm just presenting the facts", yes, just like the unjust legal system we are all living under, you have confidently defined the "reasoning" behind the conviction. The debate and conversation around it, is for the citizens to discuss the absurd practices of the justice system, which you are just being a speakerbox for with no personal context. That's already been done by the justice system so why regurgitate and post multiple links to your enlightenment.

After the first comment I just scrolled by after reading, then you've plastered your masterlink of pleasure confirming the pleasure and how much you want others to view it. What's your personal opinion on a 15 year old being charged in this manner? Does this 15 year old have the full faculty of an adult? Do you believe a 15 year old is an adult or just for this case? How do you feel about the murder charge? Yeah, you can hide behind the law, but I would rather hear what your actual opinion is especially after seeing a post you've done like "The less racist a country is, the harder it is to detect enemy spies. #showerthoughts"

As others have stated, you want to contact your local co-op extension if you're in the states.

    https://extension.org/find-cooperative-extension-in-your-state/

The Cooperative Extension System is a non-formal educational program implemented in the United States designed to help people use research-based knowledge to improve their lives. The service is provided by the state's designated land-grant universities. In most states, the educational offerings are in the areas of agriculture and food, home and family, environment, community economic development, and youth and 4-H. (wiki)

They'll have free soil sample kits, articles and programs/classes for local agriculture, etc etc.

Anything else will be pirated, shitty ad filled ai knockoff apps, or finding a forum of like minded individuals you can ask. There are plenty of resources out there but a "one stop shop" I haven't found. The problem stems probably from location, information is vast and mostly irrelevant if you're not in the same growing zones. The local co-ops will have individuals, employees, and articles posted up, they're really helpful when it comes to reaching out to them in my experience.

Also, if you search, there are other photos of putin with other politicians, should I assume they are all bought and paid for if I can find a picture of two people together?

That's a lot of vague statements you've repeated from the article. What's drinking "regularly" (this was before the diagnosis as you've stated)? "She kept drinking", what does that mean? How much alcohol was she consuming? Did she have a sip of her friends wine and was honest about it so was rejected?

as the article also says it’s incredibly dangerous for someone to get a live-donor transplant when they’re in bad shape like she was, as failure of that means they’ll need to let her die on-table or transplant a good dead one into her

Where does it say that? You've completely twisted the statements.

"On the off chance their (living) liver doesn't work, they urgently get listed for a deceased donor," said Jayakumar. "We need to make sure that everyone who is a candidate for a living donor is also a candidate for a donor graft as well, " she added.

Huska’s time at the Oakville hospital likely cost over $450,000 - ($3,592 per day for ICU care) with an additional 61 days in a ward bed which likely cost about $1,200 a day, A liver transplant in Ontario is pegged at about $71,000 to $100,000 in Ontario based on data from 2019.

In 2021, 15.6 per cent of Canadians over 12 engaged in heavy drinking – a term defined as five or more drinks for males, or over four for females, on one occasion at least once per month in the past year.

Heavy drinking is drinking ONCE per month in the past year. If this is based off of before her diagnosis, you're gonna exclude like 80% of the working population who actually does go out for drinks or private occasions (unless they just lie which I guess they should've in this situation). Between the price of keeping them alive but not fixing the problem and there being no "review" process for decisions, I would categorize this as a bad system that allowed a preventable death from an alcohol related disease to continue.

Majority in U.S. Continues to Favor Stricter Gun Laws - Gallup.com

    • Fifty-six percent of U.S. adults say gun laws should be stricter, while 31% believe they should be kept as they are now and 12% favor less strict gun laws. (2023)

CNN Poll: Most Americans want stricter gun control, but they’re divided on whether guns make public places safer

    • Overall, 64% say they favor stricter gun control laws, with 36% opposed, little changed since a survey taken last summer in the wake of a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. (2023)

Polls show a solid majority of Americans want gun control | Vox

    • Nearly three-quarters of Americans think that gun violence is a big or moderately big problem, according to a survey last year by Pew Research Center. And a majority of Americans think that the epidemic of school shootings could be stopped with drastic changes in legislation, according to a poll this week by YouGov. (2022)

Most Americans support these 4 types of gun legislation, poll says

Would be a lot more helpful to name politicians who are against gun control than the 'American Populace" who continues to be shot everyday.

jesus, I was hoping for some well thought-out brilliantly hidden metaphor that would help illuminate others understanding of something. This story is just pure bull-shit like an elon musk fanboy literature night.

    • The villagers don't know or can't see the smoke from the fire but must "trust the king" (not how wildfires work, you've made a boogeyman).

    • No one but the kings soldiers are "solving" the problem? Bullshit, it would take the entire kingdom of support to save it.

    • A few villagers will die from the fire the kingdom sets, but it's necessary for the greater good. WTF kinda dystopian bullshit is this? There's no way to inform your citizens of the impending doom?!?

    • "he’d be damned if he was gonna sit on his throne and watch the fire swallow up his whole kingdom". Maybe that's the problem with your entire story. Person is ruling from the throne and not trusted or respected by his community enough to care about a problem they're being presented. The people wouldn't trust his actions because there will be no compensation or reflection for his decisions that effect their life, "well it was for the greater good, so be happy peasant".

    Wheel of Time book series.

Got way into it when I was younger, got them as soon as new ones came out but after re-reading the first like 10 books multiple times and the repetitive descriptions, the long journey just killed it for me before it got more wrapped up in the later books. Still love it when I go to try and reread it, just get flustered out around book 7. Would love to just be able to do the entire run now with that same enthusiasm I had before, like finding a great show with lots of seasons to binge.

Entertainment companies already went after Dish when they had an "AutoHop" commercial feature which included basically a streaming server from your home it would download and be accessible through (link). Kinda interesting because I didn't know Dish was thinking ahead and had a pre-setup package for people wanting to remote stream home content.

That's a lot of trust to have in an advertising relationship, both the creator (who is basically tattooing a person in a portrait they're painting with an ad) and company have to determine if it's enough compensation based on..... feels I guess lol. I'm pretty sure there is some after data but how do you know which videos take off or not? Then if there's any controversy, whole things a mess and I hope they get a lot for it.

I had a search saved from some months ago, went to check it for some references and got new hits involving local organizations that had nothing to do with the search. Opening up a private browser I see that the searches aren't 100% matching up either. I see this as only getting worse, I want to be able to enter a search and it searches for my query. Not based on my personality or whatever info is being collected. Does anyone know a search engine that's reliable and focuses on giving the same results and doesn't try this "personalized" crap?

It's hard for me to look at % increases or "X out of poverty" or "This person makes 1+ what they did before!". I get fed the same stuff about how great America is doing because of our "numbers". Without being there it's hard to grasp if what you're saying is anything better, worse, or just par for the course of a developing nation with such a high output with manufacturing.

90% of families in the country own their home giving China one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. What’s more is that 80% of these homes are owned outright, without mortgages or any other leans. https://www.forbes.com/sites/wadeshepard/2016/03/30/how-people-in-china-afford-their-outrageously-expensive-homes

Seeing this statement and reading the link, they have absolutely nothing to do with each other and you make it seem like it's a "quote" from the article (I'm guessing it's from the 93 page research paper I'm reading through). They would've just been better off publishing whatever data they talked about researchers definitely having, the whole thing read like an Elon Musk press conference...

“To sustain poverty reduction gains, China will focus more on achieving endogenous development in areas that have been lifted out of poverty and introduce vigorous measures to support rural revitalization. Our goal is to achieve common prosperity and high-quality development including through the rural revitalization strategy with a focus in five key areas: industry development, human capital, culture, ecological environment and local governance.”

It's interesting and kinda disconcerting reading through the policies and how no real figures are presented for what the policy should be, such as the "common prosperity" they hope to achieve be 2030 (link page 15)

China has set a new goal of achieving significant progress toward common prosperity by 2035.1 While no particular income target or poverty threshold is attached to this goal, it can help keep the policy focus on the vulnerable population over the coming decade.

It makes me wonder if setting an elusive "goal" of a policy is better to get members on board and then slap them with the real numbers after they have already signed on and can't openly complain about (bad for corrupt sectors of government though). There's also just not enough information as stated in the paper to actually understand what is going on,

Finally, this review of China’s poverty reduction experience leaves a number of questions open for further research.....

    • the interplay between poverty reduction and growth deserves further analysis to understand the extent that poverty reduction measures may, in turn, help less-developed areas grow faster
    • a deeper analysis of China’s use of policy experimentation at the local level combined with high-powered performance incentives may contribute to our understanding of models of decentralization and public service delivery
    • an evaluation of China’s targeted poverty alleviation experience in recent years would benefit from further analysis of individual policy interventions and their interactions to better understand not just the effectiveness but also the efficiency and sustainability of the program.
    • An analysis of the costs and benefits of policy intervention would also be warranted in a broader sense, helping to systematically account (suan da zhang in the Chinese term) for factors such as the impact of infrastructure investments on poverty reduction or the merits of the hukou system and man- aged urbanization policies. In all these areas, active exchanges between researchers within and outside of China, and between academics and policy makers, should be encouraged, and the data needed for high-quality empirical work should be made more widely available. These actions will help ensure that China’s poverty reduction achievements get the attention and understanding that they deserve.

Just now seeing and trying to wrap my head around the Hukou system. I'm not here arguing good/bad communism, I just like the information and think that many forms of government can work out with protections in place (regulations, corruption detection, etc). I just wanted to point out your article mention and link didn't really fit together with how you presented it. I did enjoy the reading and will continue today, but I take it all with a grain of salt. I don't really 100% trust any source these days, which in this technological era should really be the default for everyone. Definitely let it sink in and contemplate the realities of others, but you only have your own reality to work within for any type of effective action.

The problem with your premise is that it's a private company who's goal is profit structure not community support and is also being funded with public funds from the government to remain "Private". Brightline from orlando to boca raton costs 100$ for the basic fare, or 309$ for the premium ride. That's the same cost for a train between Paris and London. The same trip on bus is 30$ or 36$ taking amtrak (another train service that's a public service). Can't wait for the new pricing for the california-vegas run.

It gets worse, for the national HSR they've doubled down with a privatized high-end train line (think first class, private lobbies for premium etc) with a horrible "track" record in Florida.

Dubbed the deadliest train per mile in America by the Associated Press, Brightline has killed dozens of people (link)

New York-based Fortress Investment Group, which owns Brightline via its Florida East Coast Industries (FECI) unit, has pursued a strategy of mixing its infrastructure play with large-scale, real estate investments. Coral Gables-based FECI has developed multifamily and office buildings near Brightline stations and sold most of these projects to institutional investors at nine-figure prices. It also has a sizable portfolio of land and real estate holdings along the train line.... “I think Brightline was a real estate play. I think it always has been,” said Bradley Arendt (link)

So a deadly company that refuses safety precautions (forced the government to fund further safety regulations), and is managed and owned by huge financial companies that own the real estate making their own government funded mini-monopoly rail line and estates! Oh yeah, they're way over budget and losing money fast, but if they can just get that sweet "build back America" funding they can squeeze the company for a few more years before the high priced investors can cut ties and run with their profits.

I could go on for days probably talking about Brightline, might have to do a complete write up one of these days to show how nasty and deep all the crap goes with our politics and influences. Just make it a national service, this "private" sector for public utilities has got to be moved on from.

they didn't say a bank specifically,

I had to pay student loans in another country, but my bank blocked the credit card transactions because they were foreign. The only other way was cryptocurrency with a tiny fee, or a bank transaction with 10% plus 50$ fees. Guess which one I picked.

Gift cards that act like credit/debit cards are harder to get than they used to be. I think all of the mainstream ones require identification or linking to a previous bank account per regulation now

The prepaid card issuer is required by law to verify your identity for most types of prepaid accounts. You may be asked to provide your full name, street address (no P.O. boxes), date of birth, and Social Security number, taxpayer identification number, or another identification number. (link)

At what point does someone stop being a victim of their "social status" and become responsible for their actions? Billions in profit? Polluting thousands of times over a normal citizen? "She's doing us a public service", is this celebrity boot licking?

I will always fight this "think about the poor airports!" bullshit. There are hundreds and thousands of famous people that fly without causing the apocalypse. You should be asking yourself why are people being manipulated and their emotions extorted that they have to swoon over Swift. This shit doesn't come out of a bubble, it's a planned hype-up to produce sales. Any sane person seeing people actually lose their shit over their presence should be concerned for the impact they're causing. None of this is sane or normal human behavior, idol worship is dangerous and causes extremism (link). It's funny that celebrities are "so connected" with their fans through social media but instead you get a fancy poster that's talking directly to you! Not a real human being who can be a piece of shit at times like the rest of us, not allowed to see the actual person behind the veil.

Really decently made by [Power543 fan films](https://www.youtube.com/@SGUDistantHope). I'm not sure how I feel about ret-conning footage putting the character in but I suppose with such a limited cast like Universe you would have to insert someone. There's talk of a [Star Trek/Stargate](https://youtu.be/TInEYG1fnK8) crossover (another fan made film in the link) that they're developing, hopefully it comes to existence.

What movie from your past are you completely nostalgia blind too?

I ran into an old movie I had on VHS as a kid titled ["MegaForce"](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084316/) (1982) ([RT link](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/megaforce)). I hadn't seen the movie in decades and was worried looking at a rotten tomato score of 6% that if I watched it, I would be completely disappointed in the movie as an adult. Surprisingly, I didn't realize as a kid that it was actually more of a spoof comedy action movie like a knock-off "Hot Shots" or "Naked Gun" and just completely enjoyed watching it again because it felt like a whole new experience (definitely better than the new G.I. Joe's lol). So what's your movie from your past that you'll always enjoy no matter how cheesy or horrible it may seem?

Stargate and Paintball, a combo that seems to keep coming up!

I'm not sure how I first ran into it but it seems there are a lot of paintball places that embrace the Stargate franchise! There is a permanent zone for our UK family, [Paintball UK - Stargate Zone](https://www.paintball.co.uk/game-zones/stargate/) Another mention that has unfortunately passed, The Swamp Fun Park had a stargate themed event "[STARGATE: THE NID PROBLEM CONTINUES](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stargate-the-nid-problem-continuespaintball-only-event-tickets-639536349437)". Found a [vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Oj8PgE75Z0) from someone participating, really wish they recorded the scenario briefing and the lore behind what they were doing though. If you're into both of these aspects, definitely look around because I've found a lot of different ones that have expired but seems to be a reoccurring theme people like to use.

What factors do you think contributed to the "Reddit Hivemind"? How do you believe it can be avoided?

I've been seeing more often (and others have posted the same) that some of the elements of "Reddit etiquette" seem to be taking over here. Luckily I can still find discussion comments but it seems the jokes and general "downvote because I disagree" are slowly taking over. So the question becomes is it the size or the functionality of the site? The people or popularity? What's your thoughts? edit: should I change it to Lemmy-hivemind? Exhibit A: the amount of downvotes without a single explanation (guessing it's anything to do with Reddit being talked about).

Steam Discussion deleted after questioning the "EULA" of Stormgate

I just wanted to use my voice to let everyone know about this since it seems to be something they want to Streisand effect. I made a discussion on the stormgate steam page about how their EULA has a bad link to their privacy policy and asked why the information listed in the policy is being collected. It had to go through the review process since it contained links and then after being posted was deleted from my history after an hour (I guess when someone actually laid eyes on it) For the full details I already made a [post](https://lemmy.ml/post/19114129) in the privacy community asking if this was a common occurrence. I'm attempting to reach out through other avenues for some type of explanation but just getting crickets or brick walls. StormGate - Privacy Policy and End User Agreement. Is this just the new industry standard to avoid?

Rather peeved about all of this. Been waiting for this game for ages and was excited about the F2P aspect then found out a lot of elements of the game are locked behind paywalls making the full game costing way over most AAA games. Ok, lets roll on anyways and see what the game has to offer. Then I get to the privacy policy and realize they're using anti-cheat services to monitor your game, I continued reading the user agreement and then had to find their actual privacy policy page because they have it listed under a different url then what they have posted. Some Highlights from the user agreement: > You may not host, provide or develop matchmaking services for the Product, or intercept, emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Frost Giant in any way, for any purpose, including without limitation unauthorized play over the internet, **network play** (except as expressly authorized by Frost Giant), or as part of content aggregation networks. > You may not organize, promote or **participate in an esports competition** for the Product which has not been licensed by Frost Giant. > **You may not play on another user's Account** > In order to safeguard its licensing rights, when you are using the Product, Frost Giant may monitor your hardware random access memory (RAM) > You understand that the mere presence of unauthorized cheat software on your device, whether or not you use that unauthorized software while playing the Game, may result in Frost Giant exercising its full rights under this Agreement. > Acknowledgments. You acknowledge that: - The Game which is the object of the Alpha or Beta Test is a work in progress and may contain bugs which may cause loss of data and/or damage to your computer system; - You have, or will, back-up your hard drive prior to installation of the Beta; - You have the resources necessary to easily reinstall the operating system for the computer system that you will use to take part in the Alpha or Beta Test as well as to restore any and all data that may be lost; It just goes on and on with some really sketchy stuff, then I get to the privacy policy: > Your contact information/identifiers, such as your name, your gamer id, mailing address, email address, employer, primary language, country, social media credentials. preferred games and date of birth. If you contact us by telephone, we will also retain your telephone number. > Your geolocation data, if your device settings allow us to collect such information. > Your account preference information, such as your contact, communication and marketing preferences. > Your device and browsing information, including non-personally identifiable information about your phone, tablet, computer or device and online browsing activity, which may be automatically collected. This may include IP addresses, unique identifiers, cookie identifiers, browser language, device and browser settings and broad location-based information, and internet service provider information. It may also include information about when and how you accessed and used our Sites, how you navigated to our Sites (such as the date and time of your visit), the links you clicked, **the websites you visited before and after our Sites**, and what you searched for while on our Sites. > Analytics & Interest-Based Ads. We partner with third parties (like sponsors, content providers, and analytics companies) to help us improve our Services and better understand how you interact with them, as well as to support our marketing initiatives and ad campaigns. These companies may collect info from you automatically in connection with your visit. And the really scary part > In particular, we have collected the following categories of personal information from consumers within the last twelve (12) months: - A real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, or other similar identifiers. - A name, signature, Social Security number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, driver's license or state identification card number, insurance policy number, education, employment, employment history, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information, **medical information, or health insurance information**. - **Records of personal property**, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies. - Browsing history, search history, information on a consumer's interaction with a website, application, or advertisement. - Physical location or movements. > Third party service providers. - From time to time, Frost Giant may need to transmit your personal data to vendors or service providers that enable us to market, sell, or deliver our services. These service providers may require certain personal information in order to perform specific services on our behalf, such as cloud service and data storage, beta testing, tech support to enhance game operations, chat, customer support, social login, fulfillment and shipping, email and newsletter delivery, conducting surveys, payment processing, tournament operation, anti-cheat and fraud prevention, web hosting or web analytics. Such partners include: Steam Epic Online Services RallyCry Hathora Brevo Eventbrite AWS Sentry.io Google Easy Anti-Cheat GGWP Untapped Kakao Games ModSquad I've stopped playing previous games that use these tactics and programs because there's just too many other games that don't require these that are available. This was a game I was hoping to get back into with some RTS friends I've made along the way, Is this just the way of the world or something to avoid?

Stargate Theme Park ride- SG 3000 (Bremen Space Center and Six Flags) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5dxCJ1WX0M

This is the official ride video that was thankfully saved. If anyone has VR and has watched it like that let me know how it went! From [Stargate fandom wiki](https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/Stargate_SG-3000) > - a simulator thrill ride based around the highly successful MGM television series Stargate SG-1 that made its debut at The Space Center in Bremen and Germany in December, 2003. A reproduction has now been built at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Marine World (which is now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom). As of 2006, Six Flags Great America no longer shows Stargate SG-3000. > - 3000 years after the events of Stargate SG-1, the Stargate Network has long since been shut down by the Asgard. However, the network now becomes active again and the stored consciousness of General George S. Hammond reactivates to guide new SG team members through the gate to stop Satra, the daughter of Apophis who wishes to get revenge for the death of her father. It's... interesting what they were trying to do with the IP. Apparently in 2021 the simulator was [purchased](https://darkridedatabase.com/rides/stargate-sg-3000/) by Hennie van der Most to be installed at Attractiepark Rotterdam (hard to follow the trail after that without translations but doubt they have the rights to show the old ride). Some other interesting things to note: From [CoasterBuzz](https://coasterbuzz.com/Forums/Topic/mgm-and-six-flags-launching-stargate-themed-interactive-rides) (2004) > MGM's syndicated Stargate SG-1 television show will be the basis for a simulator film showing at three Six Flags parks this year, including Marine World, Kentucky Kingdom and Great America. Stargate SG 3000 features a four-minute simulation film that lets audiences experience what happens when they soar through the Stargate into different dimensions. The 20-minute overall guest experience includes a themed queuing area, the mission briefing/pre-show and the motion simulator theater. [Facebook link](https://www.facebook.com/114317091949414/photos/a.3175168412530918/3175168909197535/) to a set of photos taken while the exhibit was open, includes the queue area and a shot of the "pre-show". The original [Trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkqFHOifJXQ) for the ride - Also hoping to find the original pre-show and more information on the rides setup, no hits so far though.

Just created a community, what can I do?

Sorry for the vague question but I'm hoping there's a lot I"m missing. I know I can edit the side bar, icon, and banner. Make the community public or private and there's a "mod posting only" option. But is that it? Some things I'm wondering about, - can I turn downvotes off or is that an instance only thing? (fan community, off topic would just be removed) - Is there any other way to manipulate the community page like backgrounds etc? - Flair's or post tags? Any community settings I looked over? - Allowing or disallowing bots (again is this an instance thing?) I'm fine with what it is, just wanted to make sure there wasn't more I was missing with my options in the community. Bonus question, besides crossposting and the "new communities" community sections, is there anything else I should do with a fresh community?

Let's try this again- Deep-Cut Stargate Meme Incoming! Click the spoiler if you don't get it.

Dumbed down the deep-cut-ness because of all the down voters, now basically anyone can get it so you don't actually have to think or know anything about SGA. I blame the initial downvoters and the hive mind after effect. ::: spoiler spoiler Stargate Atlantis - Season 4 Episode 12 "Spoils of War" or the [exact scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia0zB4bBqkQ) from the episode since none of the downvoters could be bothered to actually watch the show. ::: Rather disappointed in the mod as well, was removed without even clicking on the spoiler for context and/or asking a simple question about the meme. Lazy work. Anyone complaining? Let's see your OC stargate meme!

What household item do you wish there was a trial/testing period for?

I know some companies offer 90-day returns etc, but what item would you think everyone would benefit from if it was an industry standard to have a test drive like new cars? My nitpick would be microwaves. I have tried picking out what I thought was decent microwaves in the past but it's hard to know exactly how it functions without using it. For instance, my microwave has an express button (30 seconds) or a minute plus button. You can only use one of them, if you've hit the minute button the express button doesn't let you add 30 seconds while it's active and vice versa. Also the beeping, even if you hit the stop button and open the door when it gets to 0 seconds, it still goes through it's "I'm done" beeping which is loud and repetitive making you stop it at 1 second and still having to click cancel which makes noise. So what's your choice?

How are you guys keeping track of your personal inventory?

Starting to transfer to a spreadsheet instead of my usual paper notebook I list all my electronics in to get a grasp on all my parts (towers, laptops, memory, motherboards, videocards, etc). Lately I've been on a kick of labeling all my shelves (medicine, linen, kitchenware) and trying to sort things into random plastic bins I've had laying around waiting for a purpose. I realize I could dive into deep rabbit holes for every category. With electronics I'm thinking of documenting every chip, board, and component along with compatibilities. Pantries and personal goods could be inventoried and auto-reordered, better tracking of my tools and materials with service reminders for equipment, etc etc. I've gone through years where I throw everything away and get rid of anything not used recently and years where I horde everything and anything. Seems moderation in both is key and why keeping it all in mind and documented seems like the right thing to do if you have the time to kill. tldr, what tips or tricks do you use to keep up with all your shit?

You kinda have to believe in real magic to study science in-depth

I think this is the biggest problem I see in people trying to understand deeper fields of study, a concept is just too large or out of our perceived reality to even make sense without years of knowledge. I think people fall into the "woo woo" just because it's easier to not really know versus becoming a doctorate in a field of study who has slowly built that knowledge on the fundamental principles needed. But either way, when you start, you just have to accept that something has a cause and effect. We can't see most fields, just have to accept they are there and interacting the proposed ways because of our tiny little sensors. Sometimes, we just have to say "ok" even if it boggles the mind.
