I am not really concerned with which one is better or smarter but with which one is more resource intensive. There is a lot of opacity about the cost in a holistic sense. For example, a recent mini model from OpenAI is the cheapest smart (whatever that may mean) model available right now. I wanna know if the low cost is a product of selling on a loss or low profit margin, or of an abundance of VC money and things like that.

For 20 weeks, McKinsey will study other cities that use containers — like Paris and Amsterdam — and identify what types of bins would work best for New York City. The contract is a relatively small project for the consulting giant, which last year paid nearly $600 million to settle allegations tied to its role giving sales advice to opioid manufacturers.

The shameful answer is that the most convenient method of setting up immich is a docker compose stack but I have podman installed instead.

WOW man this is just incredible. I had actually finished setting up syncthing and syncing with it but this is just so much smoother. Syncthing is nice but it has some weirdness. Like this app's "copy local to remote" (instead of sync) is hidden in advanced configuration while it seems like a useful use case to be.
There are solutions like ente and immich but I think they both are pretty overkill for my use case. I almost never look through my old photos so I don't need an app and a web UI or whatever. The face detection thing does not entice me either. I don't need encryption either. Is there a simpler solution for this? I am thinking of just writing a script that syncs the camera folder using adb or something like that. But before I create a jank monstrosity I thought it would be better to ask around.

I don't know about this API blackout. I am talking about something else entirely. When Reddit migration was at its peak, registrations on this instance (lemmy.ml). The reason given was that the devs did not want to overwhelm themselves with the abruptly increased administrative and moderation responsibilities. At that time, Lemmy (the software) was facing significant performance issues as well, owing to the fact that that many users had not used Lemmy concurrently before that.
On the other hand, I tried to find the announcement post for this. (I remember one existing.) But I couldn't. Have I hallicinated an elaborate scenario? I am not sure. Will try to look again.

Should also point out that five police officers were tried for this supposed massacre. The trial itself was shady as shit and Kiev Independent acknowledged that the Ukrainian prosecution sabotaged the proceedings. Out of the five officers on trial, the three that were tried in absentia were conveniently given harsh sentences and the two in attendance did not serve any time, with one being acquited.

I would love to see a source for this. Even if this is true, it's probably possible to circumvent regulations like this during war time. If elections can be suspended, opposition political parties can be banned then this is like possible as well.

I like the Tarnished Archeology theory that there was a war between Leyndell and Mt. Gelmir and that Messmer fought on the side of Mt. Gelmir/Serpent god and as such was ostracised from Erdtree side. His throne is missing from the Morgott arena and he has snakes about him as well.
But I don't see any other lore slingers validating this theory so I am unsure. It would be cool nonetheless .

Gee, this is fun. Reality is not wishy washy statements from literal America military institutions. It just exposes you as someone who gobbles American state department nonsense wholesale uncritically. If you watched your Rick and Morty properly you would have known that it is not a smart thing to do. Reality in this case refers to what's happening on the ground in the war. Like Russia holding it's annexed territories rather trying to expand indiscriminately.
No, you’ve given me nothing to suggest I should care what your response is.

But this is what you have been doing all along. Nothing in reality suggests that total annexation of Ukraine was the goal. Culturally Russia sees itself as outside the rest of the world. At the very minimum, an equal to historical empires of Europe or Asia, but part of neither. It sees the USA as an ethnic mongrel with no culture or history, and hates the US power it projects globally.
I was wondering if you could provide something to back this up since these are rather sweeping claims.
The only thing I can think of that comes close is Dugin's writings but I have never seen anything that could suggest that his ideas are widely accepted or adopted as the state's doctrines.

Are you American? No part of the article comes close to implying they want to target American civlians:
“To the Americans I say, focusing your threats on Hezbollah and the region are pointless,” Nasrallah said. The US said it “would not only attack Lebanon but will attack Iran.”
“Your fleets in the Mediterranean do not and will not cause us to fear. We have prepared for your fleet what it takes. You Americans remember your defeats from Lebanon (early 80s), Iraq, and Afghanistan… your humiliating retreat from Afghanistan. He praised the recent attacks by Iraqi Shia militias against US based in the region.
“If an all out war erupts your fleet will be no good, your warplanes will be pointless, you will pay a heavy price.”
They are clearly talking about defending against an American intervention. Hurting American civilians in Amrerica would be even more strategically stupid than cruel so I don't know why you jumped to that conclusion. Maybe you are projecting the American tradition of imposing collective punishment on civilians as they do in cases of their interventions and economic sanction. Unless you want just to fantasise about Muslim hordes in which case you read it however you want.
I think I read about it last month but since then there hasn't been any mention of it. Wondering what came of it.
What a ridiculously difficult boss. I currently have a full melee build and I had to use every cheese in the book to beat him.
OpenCritic and MetaCritic both have ridiculously high aggregate scores for it. Early reviews tend to generally be higher but an average 97 score from 95 critics is probably the best I have ever seen. I am reading that it is easier to get into compared to other From Software titles. When playing the network test I didn't get this feeling. But either way I highly recommend giving the game a try if you haven't played a Souls game before. It is an entirely new story and the lore from what I am hearing is very rich. And the gameplay is tight as always. If you don't want to buy you can even pirate it once it has been released provided your PC can run it. I don't think it is using Denuvo.
Using autocorrect makes typing much easier on phones. Not only you can write words you don't know the spellings of correctly, but it also compensates for mis-hits on the tiny keyboard. But one day I had to write something using a pen and paper and I realised that I had forgotten how to spell common words. For example I had no idea if it was "absense" or "absence". Then I turned off autocorrect on my phone so that I can relearn how to spell words. I have gotten a lot better since then. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I see this being mentioned a bit in American media. I understand why this can happen. Capital does not want to pay living wages to the working people and workers do not want to work for pennies. There is no such thing as labour shortage, only capital not willing to pay. But if people are just walking away from jobs, how are they affording subsistence? I have seen restaurants being closed because they don't have workers. So it is not only people who can afford savings who are quitting. I can't phrase the question very well but the bottom line is this: I don't understand. So any insight you might want to share is welcome.
I have tried to use fast fingers to preorder a PS5 as soon as it restocks and have failed. Now I want to turn to the dark side. What do I use to achieve this? I know python and shell scripting but know nothing about web development.
I am absolutely garbage at cooking nor do I have the desire to get better at cooking intricate dishes. But I still prefer making food at home as much as possible. So I was wondering what your favourite easy dishes are. I don't value taste too highly. But I prefer that have relatively moderate to low carb content. But don't wanna be picky so anything goes. Please feel free to share.
I feel tangibly anxious when playing horror games so trying to understand how people who enjoy horror games do it. To be fair, I feel anxious all the time. And the games that gives me the most anxiety are Dark Souls games and Bloodborne. Sekiro didn't make me feel that anxious. But I love the feeling of accomplishment that I get after beating a tough boss. That, and how satisfying the combat feels mechanically is why they are my favourite games of all time. In other games combat never feels this nice (eg. Fallen Order, Devil May Cry etc.) I recently started Resident Evil Village and it doesn't feel rewarding at all to me. Even after beating some of the mini bosses in the beginning. Will still finish it though because I like to step on my balls. I remember playing the PT demo when it was available on PS4 and one scene in particular made me lose my sleep that night. People also say they love the atmosphere of Bloodborne. Why? It spooks the fuck out of me. I guess it is well executed in that respect but I find it repulsive because of how good it is. Just wondering how other people think. I don't mean to imply that people who like these kinds of games are weird or something because I have no right to do that.
Just want to listen to that lofi stream while studying.
Someone in my family uses Alexa to do things like control lights and some other electrical appliances in the home. I don't know anything about this smart home trend, but I immediately disliked Alexa because: 1. It's Amazon 2. When the internet went down, we were unable to use Alexa to any affect to control the appliances. I am guessing this means that all communication (unsurprisingly) is routed to a central Amazon server before going to the appliances, which IMO is a pretty terrible design choice for the consumer (but I am guessing not for Amazon). Are there any open source alternatives to things like this? I can see it being useful in some scenarios or at the very least it would be a nice gimmick to have if you have a spare rpi lying around.
Hello. When I use Conversations for communicating with my family (all for us are using a public server right now), the battery usage is very low and reasonable. But after joining a group (specifically Prosody's group so I can ask question there), the battery usage becomes very high (about 20% of the battery is consumed by Conversations according to Android's metrics). Is there anything I can do about this? I was thinking if I can join the group on desktop but not my phone, it would be ideal. But this information gets synced across devices. So I end up joining the group and then leaving when I am done. Any suggestions for this?
I've been setting up Prosody today and it's been a struggle. I have gotten to about 55% compliance. I not aiming for 100%. If there is a sample config I can refer to that would be helpful. When it comes to SRV records, I am not sure what purpose they serve. From what I am reading, some clients refuse to connected to ports other than 80/443 for HTTP/HTTPS respectively. So the SRV records transparently redirect to them to (for example) xmpp.example.tld port 5222/5269. Is that it? Regardless of the purpose, compliance.conversations.im says that I need to add a line to the config: ``` legacy_ssl_ports = { 5223 }; ``` And then point the SRV record to that but I can't get it to work. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?
I want to stop using WhatsApp because I fuckin hate it. Does anyone use XMPP regularly? It allows encryption so I was considering it. The consideration is whether I will have to self host it or I can use some publicly hosted instances (like how there are open Matrix instances). Also whether it has support for desktop clients that run natively on Loonix without electron. Please share your thoughts if you have experience. Feel free to suggest other alternatives too. I won't mind that.
I personally use passwordstore.org with a git repo on a personal VPS. But I wanted to set up a password manager for my boomer parents and looks like Bitwarden is one of the better options out there. The problem is that the free tier sounds a bit too good to be true so I am worried that it might just disappear or discontinue one day. Any idea if this fear is unfounded or not? If you have been using Bitwarden please share your experience with it. Would like to hear.
- Twitter website for mobile sucks donkey balls. Sometimes it doesn't load at all until I refresh. - Nitter is significantly faster than Twitter website. - Looks great. - No ads. - Free software. Nonfree JavaScript for playing encrypted videos is disabled by default. - Can be self hosted. Nitter truly is an oasis in the desert of shit that is Twitter's website.
Playing GOG's Disco Elysium distribution via Lutris. The game itself starts and runs okay but I can't get it to detect my controller, a DualShock 4. I have tried a few things already: 1) Lutris' x360ce options 2) ds4drv, running it normally and using the --emulate-xpad, --emulate-xboxdrv flags 3) Both of the above together Nothing has worked yet. Any tips for what else I could try?
Trying to play Hades but the my controller (DualShock 4) won't work with it. On a [Steam forums thread](https://steamcommunity.com/app/1145360/discussions/1/3105764336237601271/), this is the suggested solution: >Could you try setting the launch options >/UseNativeGaInput=true >/UseNativeGaInputNoControllers=false ? > >\> · Right-click on Hades in your Steam Library and select 'Properties...' >\> · In the pop-up menu, look for the field with the heading 'LAUNCH OPTIONS' But like a poverty sticken asshole I have pirated the game so I am not running in via Steam. Moreover, I cannot install Steam because Ubuntu is throwing weird errors, but that's another issue. Any idea how if at all I can set these options via Lutris? I have tried setting them as environment variables but it didn't work.
I use one called X-Plore. It's actually very good. Even has a WiFi server, conpressed archive support, etc. but the downsides are that it's close sourced and some features are behind a paywall (though IMO they are worth it). So I was thinking of moving to some free or open source software. Any recommendations?
With this whole debacle brewing, I was browsing /r/ModSupport (since all the good subs I know went private). There I saw a post from someone saying that Reddit admins are affecting discourse from the shadows and pushing their left-wing agenda with little accountability. I agree with that except for the left-wing part. Turns out that Reddit thinks that mentioning the name of the new employee, who is a public figure, amounts to doxxing. I don't condone doxxing but I don't understand how admins are allowed to remain anonymous considering how much power they have. Thoughts on this?
I gave it a go last night and it is way trickier then I expected. Simple things like setting options are not very convenient at the moment. I also tried to get packer.nvim running but the README was not very helpful. Looks like I will be sticking with init.vim for some time.
Hello. For a long time I have considered smart watches to be a gimmick but since they have become more accessible and common now for some time, I was wondering what the people who own and use them think of them? So what has your experience been of them? One thing I am curious about is how functional these (especially the Android ones) are without being connected to a phone via bluetooth since bluetooth drains battery?
Right now I have a Nokia 8 and it cannot be rooted because the bootloader cannot be unlocked. Which sucks a lot. Are there any manufacturers that make Android phones that are easy to root and have good support for LineageOS or something similar?
Haven't tried it yet but it looks super neat.
Noob question but here it goes. The place I work at has a website written in CodeIgniter, a PHP framework. The creator of the codebase was contracted and when he gave me a demo, the code was just sitting in `/home/www-user/public_html` of the VPS and to show the code and make changes to it, he used FileZilla's "View/Edit" option. I am not good at web dev but this seems like terrible practice. I have made a git repository out of the code but I am not sure how to proceed with deploying the changes I make in the repo to the production. This is super noob so I am embarrassed to ask this but what software, resources, etc. can I look into to learn how to deploy? I have never done this shit so I am stumbling in the dark here.
