Being cynical and defeatist is a coping mechanism. Like racism, its a form of dealing with a continuously shitty situation while not addressing the real problem.
If you look at the small amount of people that drink 1000$ wine bottles for lunch while you‘re struggling to pay the rent, then you find the problem these cynics are unable to address.

You need to have a phone that doesnt read your screen though. Iphones eg read everything you do and probably share that data. No idea about android.

Racism is either a symptom or a tool:
Those who cant make sense of their situation being unsatisfactory may fall prey to it to soothe themselves.
Those who hoard all of the worlds wealth use it to distract from that fact.

If you would read the book, they explain the point you are trying to make in the first couple of pages.
You have your opinion of how stuff should be done. But that doesnt mean everyone else needs to do it your way. Thats how we got into this mess.
Also very good analogy in the book: if you vote or not is your decision, plain and simple. But voting takes a couple minutes on average. If you want change, you can hang up a poster or print some flyers or take a megaphone, depending on what you‘re comfortable with.
I come from a country where people used to be put in gas chambers because the responsibility didnt reach far enough down and right now, that same country is going that exact route again.

Great way to rid yourself of responsibility. Sadly, nothing ever got achieved by being smart. Doing things is what is necessary.
Therefore yes, billionaires must go, of course. But they wont go until we take action. So my point still stands. Read the book.

Capitalism is a tool, used by 2000 people to rule the rest. Hierarchy is the problem. The idea that one person is better than the other.
This idea needs to die already.
But yes, money is a good tool to brainwash people into misunderstanding the worth of their work and their property. This „inflation“ treadmill is insane and makes you run faster in the hamster wheel while the rich dont work at all!
And may the odds be ever in your favor.

Hi there! I‘m using composite for plex. You are right though. Wifi is no good for 1080 plus. I have wired my living room pi which plays 1080, with no problems ever since. The bedroom pi with 720p on wifi works perfectly as well.
The important part here is that we need to improve on kodi/its addons because the pi can actually do a lot imo.
From a poweruser/hobbydev perspective, there could be a lot of reasons for issues. I do think the python base isnt insanely fast, the hardware does not seem to be fully utilized by the video addons so there is room upwards. If wifi is so problematic although it should be fine with 100mbit+, the protocol might be too dependent on latency or bandwith. We should monitor the bandwith usage and optimize that.
For this to work, we need more people to work on this stuff and the rest to donate some money. I suggest everyone who is financially stable to donate 1% of their income to open source if they use any of it. Those who cant should write a letter/email to their political reps to push for more funding.
Our enemies are those who do not act.

I used modrinth launcher since the whole platform is open source afaik. Big fan.
That said, I stopped playing minecraft since microsoft has perverted everything I liked about it to make it a childrens game with microtransactions. They recently announced ramping up the breakneck speed of updates to make it more like a live service game which may devastate the mod community.
I since made a voxelibre server which works surprisingly well. I also maintain a minecraft inspired texture pack since I dislike visual change.
In any case. Good luck.

I completely agree that everyone should use free software. Not for free of course but by donating or straight up paying for it.
That aside, I think your stance is the „vindictive vegan“ approach. While I‘m a newly found fan of veganism, I strongly dislike the „you’re either with us or against us“ approach.
I personally run a matrix server (which is foss, even if it sounds like its second class foss to you) and have it bridged to discord, whatsapp and signal. Why? Because that helps me convert people.
Their reasons for joining matrix:
- You can use one app (fluffychat in my case) instead of four apps
- People on the other platforms miss out if the bridge goes down which shows them its matrix first. With mautrix bridges, the bridge very rarely goes down btw
- their chats will be accessible for them forever if they wish, with backups they can take whenever they like
- no chance the EU breaks their encryption
- no chance for discord, meta or anyone else to sell their data (of course not in the bridged room)
I think there are better albeit more manipulative ways to get people to convert instead of punching them on the nose. Certain matrix only rooms do help, provided they have no equivalent on the other side.
Anyway, have a good one.

The problem with your argument is „doesnt affect me, wont bother“.

Well, reading up on the modlog, the things that were removed were riddled with rhetoric. Try to leave the judgement out of your words and you‘ll probably have a better time.
Even the post you made to complain about it is problematic. Not everyone here is a native english speaker. Even those might not have the will to read through your four line long sentence.
Also, me joining the apple fanbois club and telling them why apple is not great just does not make sense. Same goes for veganism or any other thing people like. Critical discussions are for the broader fields, not the „fan convention“.

Am in the process of retiring my appleTV for a raspberryPI with LibreELEC. It is pretty awesome so far. A couple small things do need work but thats for the future. Right now I‘m looking to at least get kind of feature parity for the things I use. Mainly I run plex for music, shows and movies as well as youtube and twitch, all very performant, even on wifi. As some of you might have noticed, I have recently released a next gen peertube addon to help with peertube adoption and accessibility. My only nonstarter so far seems to be steamlink. It runs great on appleTV so I figured it must be doable on kodi as well since the pi4 is powerful and kodi does everything else very well. I found this library today on my journey: https://github.com/ValvePython/steam If anyone wants to help developing the addon, let me know.
Huge fan of risk-v and massively overwhelmed by analysis paralysis. I‘m in the market for risc-v hardware to develop on and play around with. After some consideration, I will get an sbc for the hard tinkering and low level stuff and I‘m thinking of getting a tablet for regular use (browing, ebook reading, controlling smart home devices) as well as development and packaging stuff. My reasoning for using dev hardware on a daily basis is that for myself to be able to use features, I need apps which I am incentivised to compile and package for risc-v. I‘ve seen very promising risc-v videos but I‘m not sure what to expect from a tablet. To add to that the pinetab v is out of stock which was a strong candidate. I know there is the new tablet from deepcomputing but its in preorder and the shipping to germany is pretty expensive. (100$ plus). The HD display is pretty awesome compared to the pinetab v but afaik the pinetab comes with accessories. Any experience with risc-v tablets and which other offers do you consider good?
Hi folks! First of all, huge appreciation for this insane lemmy client. I‘ve been using it for two years roughly and I‘m over the moon about it. I want this app to be even more wonderful so I wanted to share my idea for a more integrated search: Currently, when you‘re on a small instance like mine, you dont see every community on every server you are connected to due to the way AP works. For that reason, I would love to see **all** communities and be able to subscribe to them by using lemmyverse.net as a search option. **Steps to reproduce** 1. make new instance 2. add user 3. connect with voyager 4. type anything in the search bar 5. find nothing Btw I know we already have the „discover“ option but it works different from what I‘m suggesting and is less intuitive and more cluttered than my approach imo. **Suggested behavior** 1. You hit search and get „lemmyverse.net“ as a search option 2. click it 3. see all communities with the content you searched for 4. hit subscribe 5. get content I hope this makes sense to you as I think this will boost the discoverability of lemmy by a huge margin! This would also probably be a unique feature, setting voyager even more apart from other clients (and of course be a great role model for them to follow). Thanks for reading and have a good one.

Hi folks, since the only kodi specific communities are on the two biggest instances, I went ahead and created a new one on my small instance. [!addons4kodi@lemmy.giftedmc.com](https://lemmy.giftedmc.com/c/addons4kodi) It has been around for many months and has strong uptime so please consider it here to stay. I will work on the visuals soon. Feel free to check it out and post in it. Have a nice day.
This is a **non-official** Addon discussion community for users and developers. ## Not the only "Addons 4 Kodi" As most of you might have heard, large lemmy instances are somewhat counterproductive to the idea of decentralization and therefore, I have created this community on my small instance. ## Is this community/instance gonna last? If you check, you will see that my instance has over 99% uptime since it opened - quite some time ago - so you can assume that this instance will prevail for the time being. ## How can I help? That said, you are encouraged to participate financially if you can since running an instance is no small feat, neither financially, nor timewise. I already donate to the lemmy devs so your donation will partly go into securing lemmy development as well. ![Image](https://img.shields.io/liberapay/receives/haui111.svg?logo=liberapay) [Donate](https://liberapay.com/haui111/donate) ## I dont have any money No problem. If you want to see small communities and instances thrive, all you have to do is post and comment helpful and (maybe) engaging content. People like to read stuff that isnt just a whitty remark. Have a good day.
Hi! I'm currently working on a kodi addon and I found that if you install/update from a zip file, then delete and replace the zip file with updated content, kodi cant load the contents for some reason.
