I was going to cancel my Max and Peacock account but my niece was still using it. I pay for Nebula, YouTube, and Spotify but I use them enough to feel that it's worth it.
The tracking effects in Kdenlive have very much matured. We'll go over the steps to make motion tracking easy. They might not be as elaborate as in #Blender but they're still very impressive and a bit easier to use.

I saw that happen once. Literately only once. I seen THOUSANDS of cars blow through light and stop signs. In fact just a few weeks ago a cop car ran past the stop sign and almost hit me. And, no, his light we're not on, he just wasn't paying attention.

Most modern ones it's just commands you have to run. You can usually find an easy walk-though on the MrChromebox website. I haven't seen one that required a jumper or anything in a LONG time.

All of these machines make for decent Linux laptops. I picked up an EOL Chromebook for $35 last year and installed Debian on it. Decent little machine. Not terribly fast but very useable.
Kdenlive 23.04.3 is out with many fixes to recent regressions and usability improvements to the audio mixer levels display and subtitle widget on smaller screens.

BitTorrent. I only need to share a file once and it could potentially reach millions of people. It's old tech now but it feels like magic to me.

In the quest for endless growth all publicly traded companies eventually have to cut costs, jack up prices, or both. The investors expect a return on their investment.
Lemmy doesn't have that debt.

You don't need to rely on large tech companies. The web is for everyone.

I use Gnome on my Thinkpad. That machine has an i7 and 16gb of ram. Ok my tiny Chromebook I got Mate. Very lightweight and almost as many features as Gnome.

There's a big difference there. Before the smart phone we would use notepads. Writing things down on a little pad of paper is something we've done for 100s of years. We just swapped out the paper or booklet for a digital device.

If the tools you just work for you and make you happy, keep using them. If you want to play with Linux out of curiosity, just install it onto a virtual machine. There's very few things that one OS can do that the other one cannot.

I pay legally for:
- YouTube Premium
- Peacock
- Max
- Spotify
- Global Comics
I also have a monthly pass at a local theater chain and see new movies almost every week.
BUT I torrent everything else. Sorry, Universal, I'm not going to pay $24 to rent Fast X.

In some ways it's a hard thing to police because large corporations like Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft will always take and even when they do give back sometimes they get back for nefarious reasons. We in the larger community can only keep making these packages available to as many people as possible, and be vigilant about the tools been dropped behind paywalls.
Switching a license is not a small feat, depending on the license involved, you do have to get permission from all license holders or give them the opportunity to pull their code.

When it comes to stability I've worked best using just Debian and Flatpaks. I have less headaches with the stable software and the flatpaks keep my most used applicaitons up to date. Kinda best of both worlds.
Having said that, Linux is an OS not a cult. If the tool no longer works for you switch to a different tool.
