I think they're aware of your stash of full Family Guy episodes on Youtube featuring random zooms.
Also doesn't the RIAA only cover the music industry?
I have a backpack that uses MOLLE webbing and a closed loop, similar to the one pictured, for the chest strap but I broke it. I've tried searching for terms like MOLLE webbing hooked loop and what not but can't seem to find just the loop. The item pictured was for a strap you can use to compress bags and they seem to be mostly available in packs. I've just been using a carabinier in the meantime.

The reason of pirating things because you would be offline has mostly disappeared. Partially because mobile data has become more affordable but also because more subscription based apps give you some way to consume content offline.
Where I see this the most is with music. Outside of those who want FLAC quality I don't know of a lot of people who pirate music anymore.
CorrodedCranium 2 days ago • 100%
Piracy used to be about providing the best possible quality. With popularity the quality got watered down.
Do you think that has to do with popularity though or a shifting attitude towards piracy?
I feel like there's a lot of people who treat it like they would with streaming. Downloading the newest episode or season of a show and deleting it almost immediately. They don't feel the need to store it for later.
People do keep stuff might be limited by their storage. A 1TB portable HDD can be great but if you are downloading entire shows it can devour it pretty quickly.
Either way I feel like a lot of people aren't concerned about quality. They care about having immediate access to it.

I feel like there's been a trend of people switching from alcohol to cannabis as its become more widely accepted but I know a lot of people who have ended up taking it to excess as well. The idea of being addicted to it still really doesn't come up often and looking back that might be viewed as problematic.
I'm not against people using it or anything but I do feel bad for the people who have gotten to the point where they need to smoke to feel like themselves.

Probably Playnite as someone who games a lot. I like to mod my games and get them from different sources so being able to launch Northstar (a launcher for Titanfall 2) or FROST (a total conversion mod for Fallout 4) from one place is nice really nice. You can do a lot of this from within Steam but I find it works a lot smoother in Playnite. You can easily scrape box/cover art for unofficial games, have HowLongToBeat data readily available, have links to the Wikipedia and Nexus Mods pages, and edit the description below the game to say stuff like "Press T to open up trainer menu".
Unfortunately it's not available (natively) on Linux. I've used Lutris but I don't believe it has the same customization options. I don't think there is much in the way of themes besides dark mode and light mode or plugin support. That said I haven't tried to customize it in several years. I've gotten complacent in that aspect and have just been adding them to Steam. I have heard GameHub is another option I have heard about recently but I thought it was mostly the same as Lutris. It turns out it does have some features I was looking for such as popularity scores, game description, and genre tags but I am not sure how the support is for themes and plugins. You can read a decent It'sFOSS article about it here.

I feel like that's a lot like the observer effect in physics where as soon as someone walks in you watching anime all the weird stuff happens. Like when a friend I was hanging out with decided to watch A Sister's All You Need and we had to sit through the first scene of the first episode together.
I can't imagine watching an anime movie with my parents.

The obscure content thing is an issue I've run into especially looking for ~70s era sci-fi or horror movies that are regarded as cult classics or underrated online.
I have spent some time recently browsing through the various streaming options listed in the piracy and FMHY megathreads and I am curious which one people prefer. --- movie-web for example works great but when you click on a title it goes right to playing where as Braflix pulls up a summary, trailer, and list of actors. Braflix also categories based on the streaming service like Apple+ and Amazon which can be good for content discovery. Unfortunately you can't click on the streaming service categories to view more and it doesn't list a lot of other somewhat popular streaming services like Shudder. Braflix also doesn't say what whether or not something is a cam rip unlike some sites like himovies. Some websites also handle sorting better than others or have server problems. --- I don't know if people really care or if they just click on the first link they see/use what they've already been using for years. Content discovery for me is probably the most important factor. I like being able to sort by the IMDb rating and having a section that says "If you like X you might like Y" is also nice.

Huh that's actually one of my favorite movies to watch with my grandparents. It's probably the hardest I've seen my grandpa laugh
I watched [The Lighthouse](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7984734/) with my dad a few years ago and I think that was the most awkward movie watching situation I've been in. We decided to watch it because it had Willem Dafoe on it, a positive rating, and it was on a streaming service he had. It's not really a spoiler but the movie has multiple scenes with a focus on masturbation. Neither of us turned it off because we kept assuming that was the last of it and we would have had to get up for the remote.

Definitely one of the newer Retroid devices. I have been playing on my RG405M but unfortunately the screen ratio and size makes it a bit of a challenge with some of the UI overlapping itself.
A Bluetooth controller or one of those telescoping ones though would probably be even better than that especially if you have a decent phone. I don't really use this method because the Bluetooth method feels a bit awkward and the telescoping controller involves removing my case which is annoying and it prevents me from using my phone while I play.

I took another look at it and it is a good suggestion I just feel like I would end up buying components that rival my desktop rather than something more mid-tier.

It does make me wonder if a user of both MacOS and Windows would be more willing to consider using Linux over individuals who have only used Windows. Maybe someone who has used multiple operating systems would be more aware of what could be improved in their computing experience.
That said a lot of people seem to be migrating to Linux because of Windows 11

I was thinking about something like the P73. My use case is a stationary and docked laptop connected to an external monitor. I would mostly be using it conjunction with my desktop PC for torrents, watching 1080p videos, and browsing the web. Being able to have large amounts of storage is nice. The T440P with the disc drive to SSD upgrade was nice for dual SSDs. I don't think I really need to upgrade that much but it would be nice to be able to do some light (2010 era) gaming when I travel or have less lag when I fire up GIMP. Easy reparability, eGPU support, USB C ports, and upgradeability/modability are things that I would consider bonuses but might not be needed depending on the system.

Having a stroke doesn't require reckless behaviour.
It seems more like a job requirement but I feel like it's quite important to me that whoever I date knows first aid. I imagine someone who hasn't taken a first aid course is still aware of things frequently depicted in movies and TV like how to assist a choking adult or CPR but I feel like it still leaves out a lot. I can't really recall a lot of media depicting how to treat burns or how to perform first aid on children, cats, and dogs for example so I'm not sure if that would be absorbed to the same degree by cultural osmosis. --- **Edit**: What I meant by my question was if you found out someone you were interested in didn't know first aid and didn't express an interest in it if you'd view it as a negative. It doesn't necessarily mean you won't date them. I'm more curious about how important of a factor it would be to people. I'm not sure why this is being down voted. I don't think so. From my understanding the Bethesda mod workshop has several limitations that would prevent things like using F4SE and ini file tweaks.
If it were added to console I have to imagine it would be in cooperation with Bethesda and involve tweaking the mod. It's still having stability issue too so all of this would likely be a ways out. It could set a neat precedent of Bethesda being open to fan projects kind of like Valve and Black Mesa.

I have EndeavourOS installed on my X200S. When I power it on it gets past "Welcome to EndeavourOS" but gets stuck around > Starting Bluetooth service... Or > Starting Network Manager... I believe it got stuck on a few other spots previously but I can't recall where. The "Drive in use" indicator light stops flashing at this point. At that point the only option as far as I can tell is to press the power button. I can boot from a USB drive without any issues. I had updated my computer but I believe I was believe I did a successful reboot after that. Any suggestions? I can't seem to find a solution online. A lot of the support pages end with them giving up and reinstalling EndeavourOS. --- Solution: My X200S runs Libreboot and apparently that has issues with the current Linux kernel. I created a bootable EndeavourOS USB unlocked the LUKS drive with sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda1/unlockedFolder. Mounted it with sudo mount /dev/mapper/unlockedFolder /mnt. Ran arch-chroot /mnt so I could gain access to the OS. Switched to the LTS kernel using sudo pacman -S linux-lts and edited the grub files to add the -lts. I originally tried just downgrading the kernel but it caused my WiFi not to work. The whole issue was quite strange because it would freeze at random parts and even successfully boot at times.

I believe 2006 is still considered abandonware with it previously being listed on Steam but being removed when they ran out of keys. I liked 2017's gameplay but I felt like 2006 was more memorable and unique so I think I'd choose it.
I use the word functional instead of usable or controllable because that's kind of under the umbrella of how they could be implemented. Both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 had rail systems you could see moving (the presidential metro and Nuka-Express) opposed to Fallout New Vegas (Camp McCarran's monorail) for example. I feel like the two major concerns would be how their addition would effect map design and how the engine is going to handle them.
Some ideas that came to mind: * What if we made a pizza pocket but with jam and peanut butter? * You know how Nutella on toast is one of the easiest things to make? Just a silly thought I had when in the shower I wanted to share.
Immediately what comes to mind for me is the [The Someguy Series](https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/48925) for Fallout New Vegas. It's a bundle of voiced quest mods that mesh well with the base game. There's also [House of Horrors](https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/57172) for Fallout New Vegas that I recall being pretty good. I played it probably about eight years ago so I don't recall much about it though. I've also heard a lot of good things about [Stardew Valley Expanded](https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3753). --- What about you? What's your favorite quest mod? I'd also be curious to hear people's thoughts on content targeting a specific theme. For example mods that are good with horror or comedy. They might not fit in well with the base game but they can be fun.
Context: I saw a post a while about [Paradox Interactive cancelling their life simulation game Life By You](https://kotaku.com/paradox-sims-life-by-you-canceled-early-access-delay-pc-1851545169) and someone commented saying they wish Paradox Interactive would release what they've completed under an open source license. Follow up comments said it wasn't feasible largely due to a Russian nesting doll of licenses that wouldn't be compatible. Question: What would be some obstacles in making a modern stereotypical AAA or indie game open source? Or even just segments for it for that matter? This would be ignoring the financial impact. It would be like CD PROJEKT RED making Cyberpunk 2077 as open source as possible as a an action of good will.

For context it seems like two 16TB HDD would cost about $320 currently. --- Here's some related links: * [This](https://ourworldindata.org/moores-law) article by Our World in Data contains a chart with how the price per GB has decreased overtime. * [This](https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/ssds/ssd-prices-predicted-to-skyrocket-throughout-2024) article by Tom's Hardware talks about how in July 2023 SSD prices bottomed out before climbing back up predicted further increases in 2024.
I am playing through it for the first time and I know it has a rich modding scene so I'm wondering what is out there. I would be curious about quality of life mods like bug fixes and graphical improvements. I'm not super interested in rebalance mods at this time. That said feel free to mention any mods you've really enjoyed. I'd be interested to hear about those as well. Please avoid spoilers. I am planning to play each game soon.
If you follow this community you are likely already aware of a majority of what this video covers. It seems to have been created as a response to the [take down of ROMs on Vimm's Lair](https://www.kotaku.com.au/2024/06/nintendo-and-sega-raid-longstanding-rom-archive-to-remove-tons-of-classic-games/). --- It's a 14 minute video by Modern Vintage Gamer that talks about ROM take downs and how Internet Archive ROM sets have managed to stay up (the Internet Archive page explaining this can be found [here](https://archive.org/about/dmca.php)), the challenge of dumping games, and how Nintendo isn't doing enough for fans.
The picture I linked is of a buckwheat pillow. Had no idea they were a thing before today. What about silk or bamboo pillow cases? I've only ever really used cotton pillow cases and cotton stuffed pillows. I recently upgraded to a foam pillow that I'm enjoying.
[Here](https://www.techradar.com/gaming/doom-the-dark-ages-announced-with-2025-release-window) is what TechRadar said > The game is billed as a prequel to the modern Doom series, which includes 2016's Doom and Doom Eternal. It will focus on the origins of the enigmatic Slayer and feature a never-before-seen medieval war against hell. Judging from everything shown in the trailer, it looks like a pretty radical departure from the more futuristic, sci-fi look other the other games. > Like the two previous installments, Doom: The Dark Ages is being developed by id Software and is powered by the idTech game engine. > A recent post from the official Doom X / Twitter account has also confirmed that the game will be available as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription. It will be launching for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and, rather surprisingly, PlayStation 5. --- Here are some other articles about it but I imagine most of the information is the same: * https://www.polygon.com/24171213/doom-dark-ages-microsoft-xbox-games-showcase-sequel * https://www.theverge.com/24172041/doom-the-dark-ages-xbox-summer-game-fest-trailer * https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/doom-the-dark-ages-comes-rampaging-in-on-a-chainsaw-shield-next-year * https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/06/doom-the-dark-ages-announced-for-steam-in-2025/ * https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Doom:_The_Dark_Ages * https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/the-next-doom-game-will-be-titled-doom-the-dark-ages-and-revealed-at-xbox-games-showcase-report-claims/ * https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/145433-doom-the-dark-ages-doom-6/ --- What do you think? There's also [RetroAchievements](https://retroachievements.org/) for older games.
If I recall correctly the maximum Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) for earplugs and earmuffs is around 30db. You can combine the two for a slight increase in hearing protection but you still hit a limit because of bone vibration. Is there PPE out there to go even further beyond this? Where would it be commonly used?
I currently have have some Bose QuietComfort earbuds but the case the case for them is quite thick and doesn't easily fit in a front pocket. I am wondering what's out there with a form factor similar to AirPods. Here's a picture of the current headphones I have ![](https://leminal.space/pictrs/image/489503eb-484e-4acb-aeba-9a22d32747f4.jpeg) --- Some other features that are important to me are: + Transparency mode + Active noise cancelling + Comfortable + Not going to easy fall out of my ears + Decent IP (Ingress Progression) rating + Multipoint so I can toggle between devices --- I feel like the Jabra Elite 10 looks promising.

The project has been in the works for a while. About a year ago it seems several YouTube videos were released covering it. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dKn0aZwqIY) is one by T0nik. I was pleasantly surprised to see it is being worked on. --- If you are interested in this kind of thing you might also be interested in [Project Arroyo](https://www.pcgamer.com/ambitious-fallout-2-fan-remake-emerges-blinking-into-the-light-through-fallout-4s-engine/). It's a remake of Fallout 2 in Fallout 4's engine. There's also the older project [The Chosen's Way](https://www.moddb.com/mods/twoc), it is also trying to remake Fallout 2, but in Fallout New Vegas' engine. As far as I can tell that one has been abandoned for years now. Pretty much every Fallout game (and Van Buren) has some kind of remake or port project if you want to go really down the rabbit hole but a lot of them lose momentum after a while.
The video I linked to this post is titled *How I Hacked Pokémon Emerald to make Pokémon walk with you*. It's quite interesting if you are into ROM hacking and it's one of the things that made me think of this. I just started getting back into Pokemon after playing a bit of Yellow and Crystal when I was a kid and I am wondering what are some Pokemon ROM hacks that add QoL features? Maybe some that improve the overall flow of game play or add little things to make the game more fun? I mentioned staying vanilla because I am not looking for fake Pokemon or something radically different like Pokemon Snakewood for example. Back ported Pokémon would be neat though. I saw some lists online but some were dated or didn't focus on what I am looking for.
The link attached to this post contains all [Cacoaward](https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Cacowards) winners from 2004 to 2020. I have seen a few others on Archive.org such as [this](https://archive.org/details/wadsitemirror) one but they seem more focused on backing up everything. I am wondering if there is a collection of total conversion mods like [Total Chaos](https://www.moddb.com/mods/total-chaos), [Trench Foot](https://www.moddb.com/mods/trench-foot-wip), and [Ashes 2063](https://www.moddb.com/mods/ashes-2063) for example. I imagine there are a lot of best Doom WAD lists out there but it would be nice to not have to go through the effort of downloading them individually.
It had a few niche communities I would occasionally post to after the Reddit exodus but a couple months later I would post there and get no responses or votes. Going to lemmy.film now gives me an error message. Did they decide to shut it down or combine with another instance similar to FMHY? I am curious if they gave some kind of statement. I am also curious what happened when I post into their communities now. It still gives me the option and I can see prior posts. How does that work with post federation? --- Edit: Is there a good community for lemmy specific questions by the way? I know there are a few AskLemmy's but some say they are not for support and redirect to support communities but I am not sure if they are specific to that instance.
The movie that comes to mind for me is [Matango](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057295/). It's a 1963 Japanese horror film by Ishirô Honda (the director of the Godzilla movies) that IMDb describes as "Shipwrecked survivors slowly transform into mushrooms.". --- I was curious what other PG horror movies people like. I find a lot of the time the limitations or target of an age rating can become noticeable and distracting.
