I'm exaggerating here, I only have about 200 laserdiscs. That's just a portion of my physical media collection. But I do really enjoy them. My toddler calls them "big movies" and we've watched Bambi I don't know how many times. And hell yeah, Jaws and Aliens! I have the Criterion release of Silence of the Lambs, and that has also gotten a lot of play time.

I don't know if I can pick a favorite artist, my tastes are too varied. There's a ton of good suggestions in this thread, so a couple album recommendations I have that I don't see are:

Mannheim Steamroller - Fresh Aire II

    Rheostatics - Melville

We used to have huge crowds, I've been there. I've campaigned with them. Huge crowds. We filled the National Mall. Millions of people. You should have seen them. I've spoken to them. Now, they're all gone. Where are they, I don't know. They were huge. Now they're so small. You should see them now. Wow. What a small crowd.

They had those keyboards in my college labs, too. And those monitors. It's not bad for a membrane kb. And I like how they look, which is the big reason I did a Dell build. Well, other than the fact that I got the tower at a flea market for like, $20.

Oh, you can't do shit on the internet these days. Lol. I don't know of a single browser for it that supports https. I tried installing Steam on it, but the last client supported for it can't connect anymore. I could probably still play some LAN games with it, but it's really just for me solo.

I could conceded that my wife and I may be a little uptight, but most of our group is atheist or at least agnostic. So, just an internal uptightness. Lol.

Man, I also miss having a group of board game buddies too. Most of us have toddlers or kindergarteners now, and free time is extremely limited. Later this month we do have a kid free game night I'm really looking forward to. I have some weird old ones nobody has ever played I bust out from time to time to break up the long-form modern games we would normally do, like Arkham Horror.

I mostly grew up with 2D platformers and racing games, but I don't play them hardly at all anymore. I think part of the appeal of RTS and survival games for me is the freedom. There's no path to follow, you just wander anywhere and do whatever you want. Games like The Forest, and Fallout 3, and Seven Days to Die are among my faves currently. And for RTS, I like Battlezone II and I've dabbled in some Red Alert. I prefer open world freedom in my shooters, too. My favorites are Battlefield 1942 and all of its fantastic mods, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the original, not the EA one). But I pretty much play everything solo, with bots. I don't want to play with internet strangers, and it's rare I get people over for a LAN party.

If you want to try any old board games that don't get enough love, I recommend Score Four, Twixt, and Touché.

Well, I guess it depends on your definition of fun. Concerts? Board games? Survival or RTS games? Work? We do those. I use edibles sometimes. My wife isn't a huge fan. Nobody I know approves of smoking.

In my sphere, very few people use it. And it is mostly frowned upon. Primarily, if it's smoked. It's regarded as crude, and gross. I'd say edibles are more accepted, but you don't talk really talk about it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Just this week I got my XP machine out for the first time in months and months. There's just no time anymore.

Getting my disc drives working was a bit of an adventure. I have a Dell E510 that survived the capacitor plague. But for some reason, the IDE controller is shot. Luckily it had two sata ports for the HDDs, but I ended up getting a pcie sata card and then two IDE to sata adapters for my disc drives. I'm totally surprised that it worked.

The last I had heard was that it was a time consuming, very manual process. That the cells of the batteries had to be removed, opened, and unrolled all by hand. I don't see in the article anywhere that mentions the ease of disassembly, or if any of it can be automated. The 95% recovery is great, for sure. I wonder how scalable the project is though if it isn't automated.

No doubt batteries are getting better all the time. But they're still hard to recycle, and and lithium mining isn't exactly environmentally friendly itself. I'm still hoping for either a different electrolyte or some new design method that makes them easier to disassemble and recycle. I'll be looking for a new car in probably 5 years, I really hope I'll feel good about EV's by then.

Yeah, she definitely crossed the line that time. It was probably the most mad I have ever seen her. I can't remember if that was also when she slapped me, or if that was something else. But really, those were the worst instances and the other 98% of my childhood was very good. And we really do have a very good relationship today. I don't think I deserved it, or any child would deserve that. My schooling was just a hotbutton issue for her, and I pushed it really hard that time.

My mom was very strict with me as a child, but I don't think it was narcissistic. She was very focused on my education. I had to do well and get a good job. But it was because she wanted me to have good health insurance as I have had chronic health issues from birth. I have a good job now, my student loans are paid off, and she was right about me needing good health insurance. Our relationship is lovely now. But I'll probably always remember the time that I skipped a homework assignment and she spit in my face.

I remember working both day and night shifts on an assembly line. Day shift was pretty good. The line was fully staffed, we had a full compliment of maintenance guys to fix the line when it went down. Good music.

Night shift was crazy different, way better. No management. Understaffed, and no maintenance people. So, some stations were always slower and you could sit down for a bit. Nobody was in the drive-thru at Taco Bell at 3am. And, it was seriously 15 degrees cooler in the plant. We never hit our quotas, and management was pissed. But we never had to see them.

Just got fenders for my grandpa's 1997 Jazz Calypso.

I got this when he sold his house to move to an assisted living facility. It's just been sitting in my garage for a couple years. Busy with the kid and all that. Well, we just got a little child trailer, and I didn't want to pull it with my mountain bike so figured it would be a good time to clean this guy up. New tires and tubes. Cleaned and lubed. Waxed. I thought it was trying hard to look like an old Schwinn, so I thought some nice shiny fenders would help out with that. I have so many memories of going on rides with him, and of him taking it camping. I always thought it was a nice looking bike. I'll have to show him a picture of it all cleaned up next time I see him, I don't think he's ridden it in at least a decade. Next on the agenda is new brake pads, and some retro lights. Any other suggestions? Maybe a white saddle seat, or different handlebars? I'm pretty sure its only value is sentimental, so the best suggestions are cheap suggestions. Thanks!

3DConnexion is going to have to pry my SpaceExplorer from my cold, dead fingers.

I can't stand the SpaceMouse Pro. They ruined it! Why would they swap the nice tactile buttons for stupid gummy membrane buttons? And why coat the whole thing in nasty soft touch coating that is going to turn to goo? We peaked with the previous generation of space balls. Since I've been working from home though, it has gotten quite annoying to unplug my SpaceExplorer and take it back and forth to the office. It would be so nice to have one of those fancy new wireless ones. But that's not happening, since they ruined it. So, I added USB-C to mine, instead. Now, I'll just have a cable at the office, and a cable at home and just take the unit itself back and forth. I can even leave a USB-C to USB-C cord in my case, in case I need to use it with my laptop away from my docks! If anyone is interested, I can share the STL for the little breakout board mounting piece I made. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/7411dc92-e745-4262-98e3-b883f5f2fce3.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/eb9d9eb0-11f5-40a1-8d95-1f695f79c179.jpeg)

    Thanks for the PETG help

I tried just about every suggestion here, but still couldn't get an airtight print. This is transparent PLA. I'm going to play with my speeds and overlap to try to get it clearer, but it was dimensionally accurate and completely sealed the first try. Don't look too carefully at the barrel, it's just a hollow test one. I was able to eyedropper fill and test the grip section with it, but the OD is wrong, and there's no real filling mechanism in it. That's phase 2 of this project!

I had a really hard time capturing the colors right here for the buttons and the minute hand. In real life, they're much closer than they look here. The GBA has a Funnyplaying IPS, and the watch is a HEAVILY modded Seiko SKX. Honestly, the only things original are the case, crown tube, and bezel at this point.

[Seiko] Build I did for my brother last year.

It started as a eBay Frankenwatch. Unfortunately, and obviously, the 6309 in it was useless. Also, it was completely the wrong type of crystal, just ground to fit. So, it got one of my spare 7S26's. It took a custom spacer to fit, and I had to grind a larger bevel on the rotor to fit it in the caseback. Hands and dial are Yobokies. Edit: also, it came with no gaskets, even on the crown. So, it got a whole new set.

    Mystery brand bulb filler

I found this, of course, at an antique store. The celluloid of the cap and blind cap are gray/silver and black, and the barrel is gray/silver and clear. The nib is terrible, and after this pic I swapped it for a FPR flex. There is no branding anywhere, and I'd really love to know who made it so I could find some of their other pens. In my experience, cheap pens typically use lever fillers. So, this is an unusual one for me.

    Wearever Pioneer set

I love the materials used in old Wearever pens. They had some absolutely beautiful celluloid. And if you're into restoration, you can find them very cheap in varying stayes of disrepair at most antique stores. I bought this set for around $10. The hardware was completely tarnished, the celluloid scratched and hazy, nib missing, and the barrel and cap were cracked. I solvent welded the cracks, used all three levels of Novus polish, then buffed with jewelers rouge. I have a tiny Jinhao nib in there currently, it's nicer than most Wearever nibs I've used. And, of course a new sac.

    PETG Printing advice?

I'm pretty new to PETG, and have been really struggling with it compared to PLA. My latest print of this part is dimensionally accurate, but I need it to be air tight. It is very much not at the moment. I have a Flashforge Adventurer 3, so the hot end and nozzle are one interchangeable unit. My higher temp nozzle is 0.6mm. My 0.3mm is only capable of 240. My last print was 0.2mm layers, with the 0.6mm nozzle at 245C. I used 15% overlap on my walls, and in order to keep my nice dimensions I had my cooling fan on. Anybody have any advice on how to improve the seal? I'm tempted to try more overlap, with random start locations per layer. Do you think if I run it hotter I can get the layers a little thinner? Any advice would be appreciated.

    One of my favorite mods.

My Virtual Boy Pocket. Black OEM front shell, red OEM back shell. Glass lens from Bluish Squirrel. It's a red led backlight mod, biverted. I used a 4 position switch and some resistors for 3 levels of brightness and off. Next to it is a BennVenn El Cheapo that my wife was kind enough to make a label for to match the scheme. The action of the buttons is fantastic on this. However, the red backlight will sear your retinas out if you play too long. A couple of games of Tetris, and the whole world looks green for a while. I think it just adds to the Virtual Boy experience.

Such cheap pens, but they had lovely celluloid.
