I know this I not a community dedicated to parrot caretaking but I figured there would be some people here who atleast know a little. While I will also do my own research online I also wanted some imput from real people yk? So anyway I have two parakeets that I've taken care of since I was in my freshman year of highschool. I'm later into my college years now and previously didn't have the means to transport them to my apartment so my family has been caring for them dutifully. I never truly bonded with them as they bonded with eachother first and foremost but I was happy co-inhabiting the space with them. They roam quite freely (within spaces made safe for them) and I miss them dearly. I want to transport them the 2 hour drive to college with me because I feel my family doesn't give them the full attention and care they deserve. I think what they give is adequate but not particularly caring. Anyway I wanted to know y'alls opinion on how safe it would be to transport 6 year old parakeets 2 hours in a car. I worry that the stress would be too much, especially as one of them has a permenantly injured wing and struggles to balance at times. I miss them and want to spend time with them and care for them as they are getting later and their years and while I finally have the means to truly accomadate them where I live, I still worry the process of transport might make it not worth it for their sake. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

I will be frank my understanding of theory is not great as I am still less than a year into learning marxism-leninism. Regardless, I see a lot of discontent among liberals which has unfortunately been managed very well by Biden stepping down and Harris now being on the table. However, seeing as nothing will fundamentally change and the source of their discontent will still affect them, eventually they will want superficial change again. Perhaps next time on a larger scale? Could there be a few real changes of the guard in our future or has the state apparatus been so perfected that this is no longer an option? Is fascism really the only way for the USian dominos to fall? If so can someone explain why to me? Went to a beach with some friends and wasn't able to wash my feet off before getting in the car. The car had rubber mats and I just had to hover my feet above it but even that was miserable. I don't remember being so bothered by textures as a kid, it often feels like that symptom has gotten so much worse. The car ride was only 10 ish minutes but it felt like forever and I had to hold back tears for a good portion of it. Now I am isolating myself from everyone and my girlfriend is bringing me food from the kitchen. Everyone other than my girlfriend thinks I have a headache. Idk what I'd do without her. The sourdough toast and stardew valley are making me feel better as well. Idk how to end this I just needed to get it out yk?

  I figure someone here has a special interest in lighters right? There isn't a lighter community on lemmy and I don't want to make a reddit account. Its a butane lighter made by a company called either rider or riders but I cannot find any proof they existed because everytime I look up "rider" and "lighter" I only get motorcycle themed lighters. Time period is likely mid 20th century. Uses an electric coil instead of flint, no battery just converts the mechanical energy of the button press. Made of brass Edit: in an attempt to fill the lighter I overtighted the valve screw and it is now screwed in too far and cant be removed. I don't think it is on the threads anymore. This is more of an evolutionary biology question but I thought I'd ask bc I couldn't fibd anything on it Specifically what I'm wondering is why the majority of animals seem to have their brain or central nervous system located at a specific end of their body rather than near the center of mass where you think it'd be safest? I thought of this as I watched a centipede have its tail end attacked and noticed that its head and tail end look quite similar, assumedly for the purpose of fooling would be predators, and wondered why it didn't just put its brain in the middle so it wouldn't be vulnerable at the ends. Moreover, why do we even need heads? Why did almost every animal evolve to have all their sensory organs in one spot instead of spreading them out. Why is my face where my face is basically. Are our bodies really built to be the most durable and efficient for the terrain they evolved in and why are they all so similar?

I travelled to dallas to see the solar eclipse monday and noticed something strange that I've not seen anyone talk about. At the bottom right of the eclipse during totality after the diamond ring effect there was a persistant bright white dot that looked almost like it was on the surface of the moon rather than the edge. I'm assuming this was some atmospheric distortion but I really have no idea. Thoughts?

i would really like to use hardware similar to the original devices the games im emulating were played on. like i'd love an open source gameboy that i could load my favorite emulator and games onto. does this sort of thing exist or would i have to build my own

No idea if this is possible but i would like to make it so that i receive posts in as many languages as possible but have them automatically translated in the jerboa app. Could i write a script (or is one already available) that would do this for me locally? Would it be easier to self host an instance that does this instead? I have QRalarm but it's a onetime use alarm and I can't schedule times for certain days which I find to be really important. I just read the entirety of shotgun boy, a 68 chapter webtoon in one sitting. It took a solid 6-7 hours with a break or so to eat and talk to my girlfriend. I could not put it away, every moment I could fit in I was reading it. It's 4:30 am, I have class tomorrow. They're just so easy to consume. Need more things like treasure planet. The concept was so cool and I loved the mix of early imperialist fashion and transversal of the "high seas" of space. The solar surfing and solar sails concept was also very very cool. I also really enjoyed the mix of 2d and 3d animation; it made the tech looking really fascinating. So my girlfriend has an Alexa and really likes it but I'm not comfortable living in a house with one. How much technical knowledge would I need to make a speaker that connects to a music player app and is voice activated because that is all she uses it for.
