I’m naive but I just like the idea of having a team that stays a team and competes, less like a business and more like a high school where all of the players are FROM THERE and have pride in the team, the city and the fans. The Olympics is fun because you don’t see Simone Biles negotiating for more money to go compete for China or Russia. We are the USA. We are the 49ers. The idea of Aiyuk playing here and not wanting to just sucks. Fuck off. The business part of this is a boner killer and takes away the magic.

1. PCMag - I used to physically walk into a store and buy that magazine to read about computers…before the internet was so clean and fast it made for a better news and media experience. I’m pretty sure PCMag has been around since they included AOL cds with an isssue. 2. Woot! Lol…why? Woot was always stupid. The deals were never good. There is no need for it. Both of these give me a lot of nostalgia for the early 2000’s. Playing games on Yahoo messenger. GameCube, PS2, OG Xbox. Comcast says it represents a 10 Gigabit cable internet network they are building (it doesn’t exist) so they are basically changing the meaning of the g from generation to gig to act like 10g is 5 generations better (or twice as fast)…or that they have a 10 gigabit network. Neither is accurate. It’s still just cable internet that people have to use because they have no other option. Fuck Comcast. I read online they are abandoning the “confusing” 10g branding but I just saw a commercial for it. They think all of their customers are morons and count on folks having no other choices in a lot of cases. Apologies to anyone outside the United States, this is just complaining about our poor internet options and deceptive advertising by greedy corporations.

Background for myself, I was a viewer when Good Burger was a sketch on “All That,” a children’s sketch comedy show on Nickelodeon in the 90’s. It was basically Saturday night live for kids. They had this heavyset girl who sarcastically read the news like Chevy Chase and shit. It was pretty edgy for nine-year-olds. Good Burger wasn’t even the funniest sketch on the fucking show. All of the comedy revolved around Kel’s character talking like a white surfer/stoner guy…like Bill & Ted, also popular around the time. He misunderstood peoples orders in an adorable way…I’d like a shake so he would shake you. Great. In 1997 I graduated high school and they released the movie that year… I guess it’s nostalgic and that’s why people remember it. Other 90s kids? Similar to SNL movies, it had cameos from a bunch of stars, and sort of a built-in audience, I guess, because of TV. I’m not sure if it went to theaters, but if it did, I don’t know who in the hell would watch it. Seems more like a VHS or Nickelodeon in the afternoon kind of thing. For me, I don’t understand how they could squeeze anything longer than a seven minute sketch out of the concept. I guess he Keenan Thompson is funny, but even him I’ve never seen him be funny longer than a seven minute sketch. And Kel is kind of like Jason Mewes, a novelty and not really a comedian or actor. Cool that he’s still around, like the Chinese kid from Indiana Jones. Edit to add - Ke Huy Quan deserved the Oscar as he’s talented…Kel is not, only nostalgic imo OK then. Doesn’t make sense to me that this movie was made or that anyone is in it or that anyone would want to watch it. But the Internet won’t stop trying to get me to see it. And it has like 67% critic rating on rotten tomatoes. Am I missing something? There are lots of fantastic movies that barely have 67%.

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐 Funny enough it works in Safari and not Edge…tho that may be Apple’s fault since all browsers are somewhat just versions of Safari, last I heard…

Posting this separate after my comment became so long… I’m having a general panic that my 15 year old daughter does not need me at all and I do not factor into her life whatsoever. Try to speak to her and she teases me and brushes me off. Her girlfriend wrote my wife a lovely note how she and my son are so lucky to have a mother who cares about them so much. No mention or even nod to the fact that I exist. We parent as a team…the way she is raised and all of the love and support she gets is 50/50 in my opinion, although my wife has the direct conversations about relationships, sex, girl stuff because she doesn’t want to talk to me about that. I suffered emotionally as a kid/teen and I have fought to get her therapy and medication, she went from being anxious beyond belief with suicidal ideation to pretty fucking happy nowadays…and that’s because I fought for that, based on my experience. I’ve given her the support I wish I had. Anyway, I hope it’s just a phase and she will talk to me again someday without giggling like I’m just a weirdo. I know what it’s like to be a teenager, I have a lot of wisdom. I love the shit out of her. I hope it passes and we are super close again at some point.

Social media seems to be laughing its ass off about this tragedy, is it because the folks at burning man are perceived as frivolous hippies or something? Everyone I’ve ever met who was a regular burning man attendee has been a solid human being with strong morals, personally and financially responsible, a career. Somehow I was unaware until school started this week that the state I live in, Indiana, passed a law this year requiring the school to REPORT to the parents if a child requests to be called by a different name or gender pronoun than they registered under…and the parent has to give written permission for the school to use said name or gender pronouns. This has put a ridiculous burden on the teachers, of course. Today I got an email notifying me that my son, Ben, would like to be called Ben and not Benjamin. I signed a form. Thousands of other parents will do so as well. This is absolutely fucking ridiculous in so many ways. The pursuit of eliminating trans people at all costs has gotten so out of hand. This is some Taliban shit. Please…for fuck’s sake call my kids whatever they want to be called, have drag queens read to them…teach them that slavery was bad and gay people exist. Let the teachers teach. Help my kids to be smart and kind and call it a day…I trust our public school system. This is so infuriating. To the people passing these laws, I hope your children and grandchildren are ashamed of you and put you in a shitty nursing home and never visit you…and then you die (of old age) and the next generation is better. This is disgusting.

I’ve been working on trauma recovery this year and decided to implement a mindfulness habit of stopping 3 times a day and just noticing what my body is feeling. This is a somatic exercise for CPTSD because when you pay attention to what your body is feeling you can train it to process physical reactions such as fight or flight instinct…then your nervous system can learn to react in a healthy way instead of the reactions festering into anxiety, depression, feeling numb. Anyway…so I added reminders and tracking through streaks and finally settled on using Day One for this activity since I can pull out my phone to do it or do it on the iPad or computer…or even at work by sending an email. In the past few years I have tried off and on paper journals, Wordpress and Day One…my handwriting is terrible and my hands are getting more stiff in my mid 40s. I’m worried that Wordpress will go down someday and I’ll lose all my old stuff. I created a second journal in Day One called daily feelings and just freeform such as typing what I’m experiencing my body…my wife got annoyed because I told her the wrong day for a meeting…my lungs feel hot…and sometimes summarize a day or some thoughts on goals and successes. Writing helps me process. Sometimes a quick post becomes a longer post so I move it to the longer post. So yeah not sure this is a bullet journal…you tell me?

Never seen this before and thought it was interesting, a feature of Mastodon apparently? Wondering if this feature might allow the moderator to note *why* they took such action against the account in question? I'm mainly curious. The account that brought this up is @alt_Budget_cuts and appears to be a person or bot to be bot that randomizes content (cool art, youtube videos) along with the same bright yellow posts about workers/companies/budgets to try and drive people to a "How to get rich" website...I don't really know what the this account is. Looks like they have a twitter account too but can't tell what they post on their because fuck Elmo. The website doesn't seem to be selling anything that I can tell...the ideology and what exactly they are trying to say is confusing...maybe it's bad (racist or something) and I am just too dense to tell. The photos and etc that they post are actually pretty cool so I'm sure a lot of people follow back when they request to follow...I will definitely not...wondering what the mastodon.world admins saw or encountered that necessitated this? What types of reasons would you choose to mute and not ban?

Things I like about Reelgood: track movies I want to see and what is on the services I subscribe to. Marking things I’ve seen and like or dislike. The app is fast and has no horrible ads. Available on iPhone, iPad and has an AppleTV App (tho not very useful). Things that could improve: Recommendations are terrible. No ability to mark movies “not interested” Alerts when something you want to see is added to a service you subscribe to UI could be a better Ratings by rotten tomatoes (certified fresh?) would be nice…maybe more tracking/labeling of awards like Sundance, Oscar’s, golden globes Better ability to sort by rating/popularity Community ratings, discussion, etc Maybe follow other users that share your tastes? Thanks for any tips you can offer.

I've been loving Lemmy and mastodon and feel they are coming along as good replacements for Reddit and Twitter. Outside the fediverse, I occasionally enjoy posting *dumb little video shorts* and I put them on **TikTok, Facebook and Insta** because I have friends, family and followers on each. (TikTok, Gen-Z, my daughter...Facebook, Gen-X, my wife...Insta, millennials, my younger sister). I don't browse them heavily myself, but it helps me stay connected and it's fun when something you make goes micro-viral occasionally. I'd love to get more into the habit of sharing on the feddiverse and someday get rid of those others altogether (pipe dream)...so today I had dumb 22 second video of a rabbit, chipmunk and birds all around my birdfeeder. From my iPhone it's a **40 MB mov file**. I put it up on TikTok, Facebook and Insta very easily. Figured I'd put it on...mastodon I guess, and start that habit? Whelp, mastodon allows videos of that sizes but failed to process it 3 times. Next idea...might as well just sign up for pixelfed and use that to put it on mastodon, then use it as an **Instagram replacement**... I sign up and pixelfed doesn't accept the .mov video format...and I believe there is a file size limit of 15MB as well. I don't want to have to resize and reformat every video to post. I could use YouTube or a YouTube alternative (peertube), but I hate the fact that regular video services are trying to make short vertical videos happen on them to compete with TikTok. I hate seeing TikTok style stuff on YouTube and Facebook...it's crappy and out of place. The epitome of enshittification. Any tips or ideas? As far as fediverse platforms, I am **committed to using and growing Lemmy and mastodon** and I think I need to consider a 3rd service that is better for **video/photos**, whether it's *pixelfed, peertube* or *something else*...but at this point I got kind of stuck when I got frustrated with pixelfed and I'm not sure what to try next. I'd prefer not to have to resize and reformat a video just to share it...every time. And I'd prefer not to join something (another one I haven't heard of) that may not be successful. pixelfed seems like it's really exploding...that's why I figured that would be good. Advice?

(Photo: what the dumb little app looks like on my iPad) So…I’ve honestly been worried that threads is going to be successful and take away potential new users who might otherwise find their way to Lemmy/mastodon. Isn’t that why Zuck is doing this after all? To get their users hooked on their federated client and then steal their data and sell them ads? I figured I’d give in and sign up today, make a little bit of trouble (talk down meta, talk up fediverse) and then 1 star the app and delete it. Sign up was easy and I see that I have around 30 follow requests from my Instagram friends. A lot of them have been posting…..it looks like. Crap, I think. Meta might get away with this. Well, there is no iPad app which is ridiculous…even TikTok has one. The iPhone app is ugly and basic. Looking closely at my friends accounts, it seems clear that most of them tried it, made a few posts (a week ago or more) or zero posts in some cases…and that’s it. The “feed” has one option and it serves you whatever the hell it wants…for me it was nothing but splashy bullshit from Entertainment Weekly, political pundits, lame memes and The Tonight Show. Completely devoid of anything meaningful or interesting at all. I had followed back 30 people and there were zero posts in my feed from any of them. I’m so happy! It’s complete trash. I hope Zuckerberg is thoroughly embarrassed and the whole thing fails. 🎉Goodnight 😄
