When you filter the servers to open registration and up-to-date/not-abandoned, there's actually a really limited selection of Mbin servers left (5 total). So I don't think decentralization matters to much in this case. Those servers include: fedia.io, kbin.earth, kbin.melroy.org, moist.catsweat.com, and thebrainbin.org. There's also gehirneimer.de for German language.

I've looked into it before, and Apple developer accounts cost $100 every year, which I am not willing to pay out of pocket. If someone decided they wanted to donate that amount every year, then I would probably reconsider. I also don't have any Apple hardware, so I would need additional help in that regard; I could emulate macOS (which is a pain though), but I would need someone to actually test on a real iPhone.

Interstellar v0.6.0 update: push notifications, link panel with alt. sources, mag. owner panel and mod actions, new theming options, and more

[github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases/tag/v0.6.0 ](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases/tag/v0.6.0) I'm going to start with this warning (just so no one misses it), but don't use push notifications if your Mbin server is on v1.7.0, v1.7.1-rc1, or v1.7.1-rc2. More info below. ## Features - Add option to set default feed filter - Create a panel for post links along with a menu for alternative sources. Thanks to [this post](https://dubvee.org/post/1621850) for the idea. - Add a View Source menu button to see a post or comment's markdown. - Add a restricted posting indicator to magazines - Add Open in Browser option to the magazine page - (Mbin only) Add View Moderators option to the magazine page - Add a pinned post indicator - (Mbin only) Add a magazine owner panel for editing title, description, list of mods, and magazine deletion - (Mbin only) Start work on a magazine mod panel with a "Bans" tab - (Mbin only) Implement thread/microblog moderation actions, including pinning, marking NSFW, deleting, and banning - (Mbin only) Add Mbin push notification support with UnifiedPush. This only works if you have a [UnifiedPush distributor](https://unifiedpush.org/users/distributors/) installed on your Android device. Once installed, you just have to click "Register push" on the notifications page for all the accounts you want to receive push notifications for. WARNING: Do not use push notifications if your Mbin server's version is less than v1.7.1-rc3; there is a critical bug present that WILL DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT if you press the unregister button on the affected versions. The affected versions are v1.7.0, v1.7.1-rc1, and v1.7.1-rc2. You can see a list of Mbin servers with their versions here: [joinmbin.org/servers](https://joinmbin.org/servers/). - Add a True Black (AMOLED) toggle in the settings - Use built in themes from the flex_color_scheme package for theme selection. This replaces the current theme selection we used to have with a list of premade themes (35 total). - Set the default default explore sort to newest ## Fixes - Fix Mbin image comments not displaying images - Fix post view image scaling issues - Fix user cover alignment and scaling - Fix thread comment Open Link url - Fix nsfw image blurring reveal - Fix an undocumented notification type causing errors due to missing subject ## Other - Add Interstellar to the IzzyOnDroid F-Droid repo. It can be viewed here: [apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/one.jwr.interstellar](https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/one.jwr.interstellar). - Remove kbin.run from recommended instances due to shutdown and admin disappearance :(

Haha, that's funny, I'm literally working on it right now. And yes, a big update is planned, I'm just waiting for a critical bug fix to reach some of the main Mbin servers (one of the api endpoints completely deletes the user when used, which is definitely not supposed to happen).

An AMOLED theme was not on my list, but it's probably something I could do before the update. Would that just be a theme with a completely black background?

It was actually pretty active on Reddit, with 20k subscribers, but once the API fiasco hit last year, they decided to close down the sub and move to kbin, which obviously didn't catch on, so the whole community died.

htmx 2.0.0 has been released! https://htmx.org/posts/2024-06-17-htmx-2-0-0-is-released/

Copied from linked post: I'm very happy to announce the release of htmx 2.0. This release ends support for Internet Explorer and tightens up some defaults, but does not change most of the core functionality or the core API of the library. Note that we are not marking 2.0 as [`latest`](https://docs.npmjs.com/cli/v10/commands/npm-dist-tag#purpose) in NPM because we do not want to force-upgrade users who are relying on non-versioned CDN URLs for htmx. Instead, 1.x will remain `latest` and the 2.0 line will remain `next` until Jan 1, 2025. The website, however, will reference 2.0. ### Major Changes ### * All extensions have been moved out of the core repository to [their own repo](https://github.com/bigskysoftware/htmx-extensions/) and website: [https://extensions.htmx.org](https://extensions.htmx.org). They are now all versioned individually and can be developed outside of the normal (slow) htmx release cadence. * Most 1.x extensions will work with 2.x, however the SSE extension did have a break and must be upgraded. * The older extensions remain in the `/dist/ext` directory so as to not break the URLs of CDNs like unpkg, but please move to the new extension URLs going forward * We removed the deprecated `hx-sse` and `hx-ws` attributes in favor of the extensions, which were available and recommended in 1.x. * HTTP `DELETE` requests now use parameters, rather than form encoded bodies, for their payload (This is in accordance w/ the spec.) * We now provide specific files in `/dist` for the various JavaScript module styles: * ESM Modules: `/dist/htmx.esm.js` * AMD Modules: `/dist/htmx.amd.js` * CJS Modules: `/dist/htmx.cjs.js` * The `/dist/htmx.js` file continues to be browser-loadable * The `hx-on` attribute, with its special syntax, has been removed in favor of the less-hacky `hx-on:` syntax. ### Minor Changes ### * We made some default changes: * `htmx.config.scrollBehavior` was changed to `'instant'` from `'smooth'` * As mentioned previously, `DELETE` requests now use query parameters, rather than a form-encoded body. This can be reverted by setting `htmx.methodsThatUseUrlParams` to the value `['get']`, * `htmx.config.selfRequestsOnly` now defaults to `true` rather than `false` ### Features ### Not much, really: * The `selectAndSwap()` internal API method was replaced with the public (and much better) [`swap()`](/api/#swap) method * Web Component support has been [improved dramatically](@/examples/web-components.md) * And the biggest feature of this release: [the website](https://htmx.org) now supports dark mode! (Thanks [@pokonski](https://github.com/pokonski)!) A complete upgrade guide can be found here: [htmx 1.x -\> 2.x Migration Guide](@/migration-guide-htmx-1.md) If you require IE compatibility, the [1.x](https://v1.htmx.org) will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future.

Interstellar update: cake day, new user, and bot indicators, several UI changes & fixes

    ## Features - The user page now shows the date a user joined. - A user's username now has icon indicators for "Cake Day", "New User" (created within 14 days), and "Bot Account". These indicators show in threads/microblogs, comments, the explore users page, and profile pages. - Move the thread "Domain" button to the overflow menu, in order to give more room for other UI elements (and since it's not frequently used). It looks like "More from youtube.com". ## Fixes - Decode Lemmy thread and comment responses as utf8; by @olorin99. - Add a safe area to nav drawer so it doesn't bleed into the status bar on Android. - Fix the markdown editor's toolbar button sizing. - Fix post date format so instead of "2024-06-10T18:52:24.000Z", for instance, it shows "June 10, 2024, 6:52:24 PM". - Fix user profile followers & following inconsistent UI. - Fix default threads sort setting not saving.

    kbin.earth federation problems fixed

Recently, I've noticed federated threads/comments/votes were lagging behind, and it turns out kbin.earth was being spammed (hundreds in a minute, leading to a couple thousand queued messages after only half an hour) by a Lemmy server with the same exact activity pub message. After blocking the server (feddit.de), federation should now work correctly. If the admins of the server ever fix the issue, I'll be glad to unblock it.

Biggest Interstellar update yet: now on Google Play, Lemmy support, user/magazine mentions, and much more

I don't have a lot to say this time, but here's the biggest Interstellar update we've had so far. This update includes almost full support for Lemmy (notification viewing, direct messages, and post creation don't work yet though), there's a new user/magazine mentions feature, user profile pages now let you view a user's comments and follows, and even more listed below. Additionally, Interstellar is now out on [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=one.jwr.interstellar) to the public. Here's the full list of new features and fixes that were included in this update: ### New ### * General Lemmy support, including account login, feed view, voting, commenting, viewing communities, viewing user profiles, searching, and more. The main features not included in this release are viewing notifications, viewing/interacting with direct messages, and creating new posts. Thanks [@jwr1](https://kbin.earth/u/jwr1) and [@olorin99](https://kbin.earth/u/olorin99). * Support for editing your user profile, including the about and uploading a new profile avatar and banner; thanks [@olorin99](https://kbin.earth/u/olorin99). * Huge improvements to the user screen, including being able to view a user's threads, microblogs, comments, replies, follows, and followers; thanks [@olorin99](https://kbin.earth/u/olorin99). * A new user/magazine mention feature; if a user/magazine mention is detected in markdown, it tries to fetch the corresponding avatar and name and allows you to click to view the user/magazine page if available. * Support for blocking users, magazines, and domains. * Support for reporting posts and comments. * Show a copy button on the open link dialog. * Show an option for posts and comments to open them in a browser. * Add local filter to magazines explore. ### Fixes ### * Add post/comment deletion confirmation. * Fix account list sorting to go by host, then the local name. * Fix the coloring for the subscribe button so it's easier to tell when you're subscribed or not. * Hide the error snack bar for several common errors, including render layout issues and image loading issues. * Fix empty search error from the search screen. --- GitHub: [github.com/jwr1/interstellar](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar) Magazine: [https://kbin.earth/m/interstellar](https://kbin.earth/m/interstellar) Matrix: [#kbin-interstellar:matrix.org](https://matrix.to/#/#kbin-interstellar:matrix.org) Google Play: [play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=one.jwr.interstellar](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=one.jwr.interstellar) --- Just as a side note, those who have the app previously installed will need to re-signin into their accounts and might need to clear their app data if the app doesn't start up, as a few changes have been made with the way accounts are stored.

    Interstellar testers needed

Hello everyone, It's already been more than a month since I started Interstellar, and it's far from perfect, but it's definitely very usable for someone who's just browsing around and voting or replying to random things, so I thought now's as good a time as ever to "officially" publish it. I'm currently in the process of uploading Interstellar to the Google Play Store, but before it's considered "Production", I need to meet the following requirement: "you must run a closed test for your app with a minimum of 20 testers who have been opted-in for at least the last 14 days continuously". If any of ya'll would like to help test the app, please send the Google Play email address you'd like added to the test list through either a dm to jwr1 (on kbin.social or kbin.earth), a dm to jwr1@matrix.org on matrix, or email appstore@jwr.one. I haven't done this before, but you might have to wait a few hours (or days) before anything shows up in your account once your added. If you do encounter any bugs please let me know on the [GitHub page](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar/issues). Thanks for the help; let me know if you have any questions.

Another Interstellar update: new icon, microblogging support, editing/deleting capabilities, youtube embedding, and more

To start, Interstellar finally has an app icon; thanks to [@BenjMathis1](https://kbin.social/u/BenjMathis1) for designing it and [@dannii\_montanii](https://kbin.earth/u/dannii_montanii) for helping implement it into the app! ([https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jwr1/interstellar/e55763688df9f62b12997515830344b701e1f47c/assets/icons/logo.png](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jwr1/interstellar/e55763688df9f62b12997515830344b701e1f47c/assets/icons/logo.png)) Additionally, microblogging support has now caught up to thread support, thanks to [@olorin99](https://kbin.earth/u/olorin99). Now, viewing, voting, boosting, etc. is supported on posts. Also, [@olorin99](https://kbin.earth/u/olorin99) has added support for editing and deleting your own threads, posts, and comments. A few other features added since the last thread here include support for replying to a thread, post, or another comment, a built-in YouTube video player, an interactive view for images (which supports scaling and panning), a collapse/expand button for comments with children, and a recommended instances section for kbin instances that support logging in via the API. --- Here's the link to the latest working build (a new Windows build is now included): [github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases/latest) ([Android](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases/latest/download/interstellar-android.apk), [Linux](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases/latest/download/interstellar-linux.AppImage), [Windows](https://github.com/jwr1/interstellar/releases/latest/download/interstellar-windows.zip)). If you've previously subscribed to the old Interstellar magazine, make sure to migrate over to the new one hosted on [kbin.earth](https://kbin.earth/m/interstellar) (for [kbin.social](https://kbin.social/m/interstellar@kbin.earth)). So as to not clog up the kbinMeta magazine, I probably won't post as many future Interstellar updates here.
