I replaced all my movies from x264 to x265 versions. Went to play a movie and it said it couldn't transcode the file. Looked into it and you have to pay to do hardware transcoding - my own fault for not testing a x265 file first haha.
Installed Jellyfin where transcoding using your own hardware is free and I haven't looked back.

3 hours for a hatch "day" is stupid. No distance reduction makes it even worse.
Sadly you just know they are going to make bank off this event and they'll continue happening.
Inb4 Larvesta hatch "day" instead of community day.

This is actually amazing. I've done a bit of editing as I play Pokémon Go which uses OSM for the background map. I got fed up of just looking at roads so I mapped in all the buildings, shops, parks etc near me.
This gamifies walking and exploring which I love!

I've always wondered, is this a drawing of the YouTuber NorthernLion?

I wonder if they would still be able to sell location data in aggregate?
I play Pokémon Go (yes that's still a thing) and Niantic recently made a deal that they don't sell individual location data which people have taken as they sell bulk location data instead (scrubbing data such as your name etc).
Can the app please be updated to include the sort options Top hour, Top 6 hours, and Top 12 hours?

I hope so too, but if it's one thing I've learned about the PoGo playerbase it's that they can put up with a lot of crap.

This will likely just be casual reviews by technical lemmy users. However, I will be reaching out to the Mozilla Foundation and Cure53 as they recently did an audit of Mastodon. If there is interest in an external audit of lemmy and the costs are affordable, I'll look into crowdfunding this cost.

I only check Reddit now for a game sub which, while on Lemmy, doesn't have critical mass yet (and I'm not sure it will).

Also it would be good to implement one of those toast notifications "press back again to exit" that other apps have.

Nice QoL for the people who raid T5s, no change for solo players without communities.
So close Niantic, so close.

Spawns: meh, all starters so goodbye great/ultraballs.
Daily bonuses: These should be for the duration of the event imo.
Increased lucky odds is always nice to have, especially coupled with the seasonal bonuses of guaranteed XL candy and 2x special trades per day.

Fine for me on v8.2, I just upgraded to v9.0 and again it's fine.
Maybe you need to reinstall the web app? I installed it fresh today.

Doesn't this make NewPipe better in that instance? If it's client side you aren't going to be rate limited.
There is also a fork of NewPipe that integrates SponsorBlock (I don't know if Piped has that).

What happens if you use SmartTubeNext on a TV? I'm assuming the interface wouldn't support the 3 strike YouTube popup so I guess you'd just get blocked without knowing why?
I'm guessing ReVanced will support the popup so you'd know.

I can recommend, for Android:
Connect
Liftoff
Thunder
I'm using all 3, plus Jerboa, as they are all fantastic apps. At some point I'll just stick with one, but it's exciting following the development of these apps. Use Obtainium to keep them up to date (although Connect is Google Play only).

There are some fantastic apps being made right now though. For android I am following development for:
Connect
Jerboa
Liftoff
Thunder
Connect is only on Google Play, but the bottom 3 I keep updated using the Obtainium app which grabs the releases from GitHub (gets updates faster then waiting for Google Play).

Holy shit
What are they playing at, the update released Friday, but they wait until today for 1) a Niantic rep to confirm it was intended and 2) for the update to globally roll out. ![](https://lemmy.one/pictrs/image/00af30db-168c-41bc-a541-1b7903a3ca63.jpeg)

Ah, hadn't realised you were on about PC gaming.
Physical editions for PC gaming for me died a long time ago as I pretty much exclusively use Steam.
Consoles however I always try and get physical where possible.

I think this is a different bug, the community name domain matches the domain of the user that posted it. From your screenshot I'm guessing nitrofuel is from lemmy.world
See my screenshot below, this is from the Beehaw gaming community, notice how the domains match with the user?

Sure it is, just Google "pre-owned games" and you'll probably have hits from whatever the main game supplier js in your country (GameStop, GAME etc.).

It's just a gotcha to them. If I read an article from The Verge and Reddit hasn't commented on it, I'm not even going to remember that quote, let alone make that connection that the article must be unsubstantiated hearsay.
It must make them feel better saying it though.
As the image shows, when you are subscribed to multiple communities that have the same name (e.g. Fediverse and Gaming), the app will only show one leaving the other inaccessible unless manually searched. This is how the subscriptions should look: ![](https://lemmy.one/pictrs/image/22f5bf13-6a68-4793-9c78-bf932c68a514.jpeg) Very impressed with the app, a lot of good work being done!

They kind of work, you can see below that the content is not from those communities. I have to change the sort method to get the content, but the sort method is broken for me as I'm on lemmy.one which is not on v18:

Such a nice QoL, but I really fear it's a bug.
I've noticed that if you quick catch, all the Pokémon stay on the map (even if you walk out of range), so when they fix that I really hope they don't "fix" the spawn range as we now finally have parity with stop range.
If it's a bug, I don't know why it would be so bad to keep it as I'm pretty sure the spawns are already loaded in, but are just normally hidden (evidenced by catch devices catching Pokémon that haven't loaded yet, as well as modified PoGo clients forcing to show the spawns).

It's a shame because they are now so many contributors, it's really picking up steam.
I'm refreshing GitHub multiple times a day for the new version haha.
On the subscribed community list (swipe from the left side of the screen) the communities I'm subscribed to are sorted A>Z and then a>z as shown in the image, so they seem to be case sensitive. A minor nitpick, but are the devs aware assuming this is not intended behaviour?
