Google is the biggest of browser and http/s internet based protocol, so much bigger that everyone plays by googles rules. if they set out manifestv3 the other browsers that are not compatible will not work, and as a result people will abandon them.

Everyone always wants a technical solution to grow communities. act as though some sort of filter rule or item in the settings menu that will cause more users to post and communities to grow, but always will refuse the most basic thing in communities. Community culture you can always say forums are the public square of the internet. If you don't have anything to see or do in said square it might as well be a empty abandon parking lot.

I'm not a fan of Pixelfed, or instaclones. But the idea of a messenger e2ee that works with all the fedi is such a awesome idea.

Reddit is a lot of peoples only form of community, especially if it's obscure interests. Without it your more or less trapped in your local area.

Thank you so much for showing me this. I've always had a hard time describing everything looking the same, sounding the same, feeling the same. With Execs trying to push AI into storytelling it's just going to be more of the same.

I miss it to, SA was the precurser of internet culture and was a fun place to post. I feel like the modern internet has been a bit sanded down.

Hey Red team crew, I'd love to hear everyones thoughts on the tryhackme's red team course. a lot of paid parts, but not all. I'd love to know what you think or if they're better courses

lol, reddit admins are putting down the resistance on 2010 meme pages.

It's a never ending debate on how to "onboard" new users with all the growth. Honestly I'd think it would be easier to compare it to email. like a simple look it all works together just get a account and it will federate. It doesn't matter too much where you sign up your account it's able to send and receive email from everyone. But, everyone gets overwhelmed by choices and not knowing the difference between servers. Something like a email app where it gives you a list to pick and a other option would be good imo.
No one has posted yet, So I'll be the first and drop this easy start github page.

It's because a system where everything is controlled by one person is so commonplace that any other idea seems foreign and impossible, or more often these days not profitable.

web3 was always a cryptocurrency scam and was doomed to fail. Federation is more a return to the early web with a way to link everything together to compete and get similar services to megacorps while distributing costs.
sometimes when I post it hangs for awhile, is it just loading or is it issue federating or something else?
NeonPayload 1 year ago • 100%
I think having the defaults set to global instead of local when searching will make it easier for new users to find communities and only show a few lemmy instances that are good to show for new users, the biggest complaint is that lemmy ( and all federated services ) are too complicated trying to find a instance.
For those that weren't there for the mastadon growth, it came is several waves. the reddit blackout begins tomorrow 6/12. Are the Lemmy sysadmins expecting a second wave of growth? If so how big?

It would be interesting if we could get people to consider alternatives like peertube as a livestreaming platform.

I think peertube has a livestreaming option. But, i don't think a lot of streamers would jump to it because lack of monetization options.
NeonPayload 1 year ago • 100%
It also has a livestreaming option as well. I'm hoping some twitch streamers would consider; but, that's a longshot because they're upset about ad money not actual content. Unless, there is a way to monetize content hosting without ads that's more or less a pipe dream
