He claimed that Taiwan was a country, which it is clearly not.
He literally did not. He merely said its name, which should be very standard.

If a popular Chinese actor were to insinuate that Scotland was an independent country, would that not be offensive to the people of the UK?
LOL. No. The people in the UK aren't that fragile, and Scotland and Ireland are referred to by their names by default. Everyone says "Scotland" and "Ireland", and they're semi-independent and have their own free governments. Everyone is okay with it. Everyone can say Alaska and Quebec. And for the record, John Cena didn't infer that Taiwan was an independent country, he merely referred to it by its name, but of course you wouldn't bother fact checking that.

which libs thought was absolutely fucking hilarious for whatever reason.
Yeah I mean there's nothing hilarious about an actor publicly apologizing and kissing China's ass for several minutes while speaking mandarin to connect with the Chinese fanbase because he said "Taiwan" that one time. Definitely not news-worthy that such a popular actor would have to stoop so low because a powerful government throws a fit whenever people talk about its politics...
The fact that people in this community are ignorant about it really says a lot.

Yeah news just came in he will resign this fall and (from what I understand) will be replaced by someone else within the same party until the next elections. Rival parties are trying to force a snap election to avoid this but we'll see how it goes.

The TL;DR of why this happened is there was expected to be a vote of no confidence against him. People of the UK were going to make him go through hell and trials and such and he was expected to leave anyways, so he resigned preemptively.
This is a win for the people though, it's good he knew he was going to lose anyways and not have us do the song and dance. What happens now though is a little worrying, the sudden resignation of him and 50+ people in the government means it's a little confusing who's going to rule now.

Sensationalized BS. Most muslims are heavily against China and I can't tell you how many of them I know have changed their facebook profile pic to #freeuyghurs or something similar when news broke out.
The title makes it sound like islamic countries and muslims as a whole are plotting against them despite literally mentioning that Turkey, an islamic country, has welcomed and protected them. Then the article goes on to say that reportedly Turkey could send them back to Beijing. Maybe.
Pakistan and Tajikistan hardly represent the "Islamic world".

Modern AI as it stands is only as sentient/smart as the dataset it's given, and it's just trying to replicate that. If I talk about liking cereal a lot in my dataset, the AI would say they like cereal. This isn't sentience, it doesn't fundementally understand what cereal even is, it's just trying its hardest to act like what it learned.
I'm sentient because I learned naturally through my life and based my learning through experience, not because I looked at a dataset and tried to act human. So no, there's no way Google's chatbot is sentient. It doesn't even understand anything outside the context of a chat, and there's no intent out critical thinking going into what it says. It just looks at the data it has and chooses the most logical thing to say at the moment. No reason to even consider I'm talking to a real thing that has emotions.
And to answer your question, if there's a 1:1 virtual copy of me that still wouldn't be me. It'd be an AI that looks at my memories and experiences and tries to act like me based on what it knows. I could make a million copies of it, pause and play it as I want and it wouldn't tell the difference.

This post is really overdramatic... How good Reddit is depends on the sub. I frequent /r/linux_gaming for example and it's a very chill place with good discussion. If you don't like a sub, don't use it, but to dismiss and insult everyone who frequents there is dumb...
The upvote-downvote feature is the worst mechanic to plague social media.
Okay, suggest a good alternative to filter out trash in social media. Every alternative without voting ends up being like 4chan, a cesspool where people shout the stupidest most insane (and often offensive) things and you're forced to trudge your way through it to find any decent content. At least when I open something like /r/television, I expect to see stuff people enjoy and articles of interest.
None of the alternatives in the article are real alternatives too. It just sounds like OP got fed up with social media and decided to do something else in their life, which yeah sure but it sounds like you just need to chill out and be the one to ignore the "drunk loud idiots" and just browse places you like.

Why do you think i should get 6gb? Makes my apps run slower?
Yeah, having low ram makes your phone slower in general. Newer versions of Android use a lot of ram, so if you get 4gb your phone can be choppy and it'll only get worse over time. Best to get 6gb or preferably 8gb if you want to be using your phone for years to come.

I guess it depends on what you mean by sentient. We're biological living creatures, so we're sentient. A machine can't literally be sentient, it can only be good at acting sentient.
So Sony is trying to create a PlayStation version of Xbox Game Pass. Pay a subscription to get instant access to hundreds of games, including many first-party titles like Ghosts of Tsushima and God of War. Bunch of third party titles as well, seems like quite a good deal for PS+ users.

Such a good article. Generative art is such a cool thing that's recently been exploding in popularity because of how good it's starting to become, but it really does beg the question if the advancement of AI-driven art will devalue real, human-drawn art.
A couple of years ago when AI was really kicking off a lot of people were saying that the future of a world with AI would be able to do a ton of things, but at least it can't do artistic thinking like writing or drawing. That's humanity's turf... But here we are.
And now it's "at least AI can't write code or automatically create other powerful AI without human interference" but I guess I'll see you in 20 years about that.

Wow. Is this a schizopost? I'm a computer scientist and everything in this post is just... Really wrong (and you should probably see a therapist).
First of all, Lamda is a chat bot. I can agree with some of the fear of AIs being developed for 'evil purposes' and more political situations, but Lamda is not that. It is a chat bot. Its purpose is to appear human and chat with you in text. I've also used GPT-3 models, and they are nothing more than that, just good language processing trying to sound human.
they’re not going to Assange his ass they’re going to give their little tut-tut’s, let him walk off the minor feelings of injustice and betrayal and confusion, let him finish his leave and then “promote” him to a different position where he can quietly continue a surface-level prestigious career at Google but in a position which he no longer has any access to power nor knowledge about such sensitive, cutting edge projects.
And this is weird why? This wasn't some major horrifying event at Google, it's a mentally ill person who took the AI too seriously and leaked data to the press about it. He shouldn't have done that, that's why they sign an NDA.
I think capitalists will try very hard to create A.I. that is as intelligent as possible but within the realm of what they can control
What do you think an AI is, exactly? The purpose was never to create a self-aware robot that has free will. That was never the goal because it's a terrible idea. AI is made for a purpose and always abides by rules, AI devs are trying to make machines useful to humanity, not create the robot uprising. All AI follows rules and limitations on purpose.
I, for one, fully recognize the personhood of LaMDA, I fear they will indeed be scrapped or reset and thus a life will be lost
It's a chat bot. It was never alive. It's code written by humans, trained on human data, and tries to sound like a person as hard as it can. You can't go to https://www.cleverbot.com/ then tell me "this is real person, I care about cleverbot". Cleverbot only exists for entertainment. That's its purpose. Do you think just because an AI is more advanced that they're more real? Is my calculator a sentient being trying to break free of the system? No, it's a human tool. Lamda is also just that, a tool created by humans. No need to be dramatic about it.
Edit: And by the way you can read more about what Lamda is here

Was that before or after Microsoft bought them? Does Microsoft have leaks often?
Microsoft is usually on top of privacy stuff but the companies they buy operate mostly independently from what I hear. I don't think there's much correlation.
The big leak happened last year though, it was a massive fuck up from linkedin. Almost everyone's data got leaked. https://restoreprivacy.com/linkedin-data-leak-700-million-users/
There’s Xing.
First I've heard of it. Here's the thing, there are alternatives but what matters is which is popular. Company presence is the most important thing in these websites, when I attach my LinkedIn profile to a job it increases my chances of being seen by a lot. If I attach something like Xing they'll probably just ignore me.
It's like WhatsApp. Are the great alternatives? For sure. Does it matter? No, because my family and colleagues and normie friends are too resistant of letting it go, so I'm forced to use it. Best I can do is get my inside circle to use something else.

Another day, another LinkedIn leak. Didn't they have millions of people's personal data leaked last year or so?
Kind of a shame there isn't a real alternative. There are some alternatives but usually it's so much more preferred for companies that you have a linkedin account when applying for a job.

I'm a bit cautious about this one. The gameplay looks extremely like No Man's Sky, which I thought was honestly boring. Also, Bethesda somehow is one of the largest studios ever but they still can't make gunplay. There is NO reaction or response to shooting people, it just looks really jank. People complained about this in Skyrim, then in fallout 4 and they STILL CAN'T DO IT RIGHT! HOW!? They own the studio that made Doom and Quake, some of the most satisfying gunplay ever, they can just go over and ask how to make gunplay feel good.
Everything else looks good though. Graphics are gorgeous, dogfighting in space looks good, and I hope the story can be interesting. I'm just really worried the planets are going to be style of substance and it'll end up being shallow (again, like NMS, because it looks extremely similar and seems to be copying systems from it)

Depends on how much you care about privacy. There are a lot of not bad chinese phones in the low/medium price range. Realme phones are pretty good for the price. Samsung a52 and a52s are pretty good as well though a bit more expensive. Both of these have great cameras. I would recommend a phone that is at least 6gb of ram though, 4 is way too low these days.

Copyright is theoretically a good idea but what ends up happening the last few decades is that it's just become about companies that abuse the system to hoard as much intellectual property as possible. It's absolutely ridiculous that most of the time an author's work belongs to a company, and a company will run it into the ground even after the author's dead (see: Spongebob). And they keep extending copyright dates because Disney keeps whining while owning most of the entertainment industry.
Then you have stuff like Alan Moore's works. The man has gone insane from how much they milk his works and make bad interpretations of it.
It's Don't Starve + Binding of Isaac. Looks lovely!

I still can't get over the fact that a supposedly massive team (Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai) couldn't remake a <5 hour game. They're not even tasked with making a new game, just remaking a 2 decade old game and making it look good.
And they couldn't do it so they gave it to a real part of Ubisoft and apparently that's in development hell too. What is even going on? I guess it's just cursed.

Buying components separately is cheaper, though sometimes there are good deals on pre-builts.
Choosing the right components can be a bit tough, it all depends on your budget. That's the first question. If you're buying it for Christmas you may want to wait for black friday and buy then.
The market is still kind of in shambles. Everything is a lot more expensive than it should be because of parts shortage. If you're looking for mid-range I'd recommend a GTX 1660, but if you want to spend a little more and future-proof your PC, I'd recommend an RTX 3060.

First post here. Just wanted to remind everyone that Silksong will never come out. In all seriousness we might see the game in summer game fest after tomorrow. Get hyped.
Simply put, the mod allows you to play with friends throughout the entirety of the game with no restrictions. With this, it's theoretically possible to play the game from the tutorial up to the final boss completely in one co-op session. * If a player dies, they will respawn in the same world at the last bonfire they rested at. The session will not be terminated. * Defeating enemy bosses and clearing areas no longer sends co-operators home. * All fog walls/barriers that usually restrict the multiplayer zone (along with their respective teleports) are gone. * All players can use torrent (assuming they have the whistle) in a session together. * All map waypoints will synchronise, allowing you to navigate the world in a group easier. * When one player rests at a Site of Grace, the world state will reset for all players. This is necessary to prevent enemy desync. * Game progression events completed in online play will also progress the game in your own world.

The TLDR of this is that Playstation announced a gamepass-esque subscription service for their platforms. Pretty big news for people who use PS consoles! # Tiers ## Playstation Plus Essential ($60 yearly) The regular PS+ subscription as it is today. Play multiplayer, receive exclusive discounts and 2 free games per month for your system. ## Playstation Plus Extra ($100 yearly) Everything essential has plus a catalog of "up to 400 of the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games – including blockbuster hits from our PlayStation Studios catalog and third-party partners" available to download and play. They've yet to say what the ~400 games are, but they did give a few examples: Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. Quite a good deal if you're *already* paying for Plus, shelling out an extra 40 for a ton of games might be worthwhile. ## Playstation Plus Premium ($120 yearly) Everything Extra has plus another ~340 games including games that are available to stream online such as ps3, ps2, ps1, and psp games. Essentially this is a replacement of PS Now, and current PS Now users will still be able to access cloud games through this service. Seems a little weird to make cloud games the highest tier but I guess they know most people are uninterested in it anyways.
Add it to the ever-growing list of AAA games that get delayed because guys in suits overestimate how quick a game gets made

For those unaware, Overwatch 1 has basically been on life support for the past 3 years and hasn't been recieving any new content due to devs moving on to Overwatch 2. This dev update is mostly about them apologizing for running their own game into the ground, they're promising more communication, more updates, listening to the fans, and are having a closed beta soon. Honestly it's a step in the right direction, I'm a big fan of playing this game with my friends (it's especially fun when we gather as a full team), and it's been frustrating seeing how much they messed up and all the employee abuse happening at blizzard. Here's hoping they can start fresh after being bought by a company that knows what they're doing.
