    From the article:

A court in Madrid heard it was assumed the message triggered alarm bells after being picked up via Gatwick's Wi-Fi network.

Public wifi without a VPN is like sex without a condom. The connection may not be encrypted (very risky) and even if it is, you are still susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks: https://www.garlandtechnology.com/blog/how-to-monitor-encrypted-traffic-and-keep-your-network-secure

I guarantee there will be a flood of articles about this over the next few days because of what I quoted above.

It's also possible that one of his "friends" reported him or something like that.

In general I agree, but there's no privacy on airport Wi-Fi. And very little at an airport in general.

Why did they use such an obscene word for this?

"Ploopy"? I would say it's weird (for headphones) and maybe non-descriptive. How is it "obscene"?

I have a lot of issues with Lemmy and more specifically how the fediverse will work with multiple copies of communities and the knee-jerk defederation. But, in terms of stability, content and quality, I feel like it has been getting better. I'm willing to give it some more time.

I imagine specific examples would help the devs. If you can point to a post and comments that disappear in Connect but show up fine in a browser, it would give them a place to debug.

In every other app I end up accidentally backing out of the app.

Have you checked the behaviour of those comments on the web or in another app? I've definitely seen this but I'm somewhat used to it from RIF. I always figured it meant the comments were deleted after the initial pull of the data.

I don't have a suggestion for you because even though I love waffles I don't usually order them. But I'd be interested to see some other suggestions here.

There's a place on Robson across from the library that used to always have lines. I always figured they got on some list of "best place for waffles" or something.

Maybe not the same issue but I can't see communities with names longer than 20 characters here. There's a discussion and solution (I think) here: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3449

Any chance of getting that fixed?

So the CombatFootage subreddit is the one I've been seeing it on: https://lemmit.online/post/93740

When I click the link on that post it goes to non-old Reddit.

Edit: oh interesting, I see what you mean now. That's very confusing because the r/CombatFootage link looks like something that would take you to the subreddit, not the post on old reddit. Is there any reason not to make the main post link not go to old reddit? I like to click the link directly from the post list instead of going into the post first.

Any chance of making posts link to old.reddit.com instead of www.reddit.com?

In particular, posts to NSFW videos hosted on v.redd.it don't work on the www version. The links take you to the comments page, which blocks NSFW content, and nags you to go to the app. old.reddit.com links just work without logging in.

Figured this out. On desktop when you hover over "Forgot Password" it says "You must enter an e-mail address to reset your password".

When you enter a valid email address the "Forgot Password" link enables and works. 👍

This is actually my preference too. But I think apps have to conform to some play store guidelines that say they have to let the back button exit the app. So the prompt is a compromise.

Feature suggestion - pop up confirmation before exiting app when using the Back button on Android

I end up backing out of the app a lot, especially from the search. Having the back button from the search window not exit the app and go back home is a solution for that partícular issue, but a popup to confirm backing out of the app would help in multiple situations. I think any feature change like this should be optional though. (I'm coming from RIF and it had this feature.)

Anyone else dislike the comment-collapsing behaviour?

I know this behavior was requested, but the tap to collapse and long press to hide buttons are both really annoying to me. - If there's a link in the comment and you miss your tap, you end up collapsing the comment. Then it takes three (or 6, or 9) clicks to click a link. This is particularly common at small fonts. The old behaviour of collapsing when hitting the comment header was sufficient, and still too much IMO. - I usually use long press to highlight text and copy it. Maybe to bring up a menu. Having it hide a menu (the buttons) is just weird and disconcerting Again, I know this was requested, so I tried to give it a chance, but I really dislike it, so I wanted to see how others felt. I'm recently coming from RIF btw.

What have you imagined as an epic design for a bot?

I feel like a design has to evolve to survive at the different levels, but have you thought of a design that you think would stand out in the pros? Weapon design, wheel design, armor, go wild!

Here’s a rough estimate of how many people recent SCOTUS rulings might kill arstechnica.com

"In all, the researchers estimate that the three decisions combined could lead to around 3,000 deaths total in the coming decade if nothing else changes. The higher-end estimate, which the researchers note could be more realistic, would be nearly 6,000."
