cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/2222674 > MADRID, July 26 (Reuters) - An Iranian chess player who moved to Spain in January after she competed without a hijab and had an arrest warrant issued against her at home has been granted Spanish citizenship, Spain said on Wednesday. > > Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, better known as Sara Khadem, took part in the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships held in Kazakhstan in late December without the headscarf that is mandatory under Iran's strict Islamic dress codes. > > Laws enforcing mandatory hijab-wearing became a flashpoint during the unrest that swept Iran when a 22-year-old Iranian-Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, died in the custody of the morality police in mid-September. > > The 26-year-old has told Reuters she had no regrets over her gesture in support of the protest movement against her country's clerical leadership. > > Spain's official gazette said the cabinet approved granting Khadem citizenship on Tuesday "taking into account the special circumstances" of her case.

I’m in the minority I suppose but I really love stories on Signal. I have a lot of friends/family on there and it’s a good way to keep in touch without having to force a notification or expect a response on their end. Maybe it’s a cultural thing too

Was looking into a way to create a widget on iOS showing my task list on Obsidian, and stumbled across [this very helpful guide](https://fulcra.design/Posts/An-Obsidian-Homescreen-for-iPhone-and-iPad/) which worked really well for me. It requires a $5 app, but honestly really worth it because it’s so versatile. Thought it was cool and figured I should share

Never ordered from flashquark myself, but I have seen in the past that they are legit. I’ve gotten good quality PBT keycaps from Kinetic Labs with really good success. Drop have been fine for me as well.

Especially when looking at puzzles, always look for forcing moves (like checks) because it forces your opponent to react and makes it easier to calculate for you. In this case, checks can be done by the queen or knight.
- Nd5+ just blunders a Knight.
- Qe4+ loses the Queen.
- Qd3+ doesn’t accomplish much after a move like g6.
- But Qc2+ not only has eyes on the King, but also the Rook on a4.
This forks the Rook and King and forces Black to lose their rook after Qxa4. Rb8 like you suggest does not win any material, and is not forcing your opponent to make a specific move. Hope that helps. ---

I'm just a novice hobbyist (the only server I've put together was a homebridge server years ago) so the learning curve for this was relatively high putting together a VPS, setting up ssh, learning how to properly configure, and there were some errors when running the playbook I had to slowly figure out. Honestly though once it was all done, I thought "man, that was actually pretty easy" and I learned a lot so that was really cool

I was listening to the interview with the dev of Apollo on John Gruber’s podcast and they brought up the idea that if Reddit wanted to monetize 3PA users, then force them to get a premium subscription. If all I needed to do was pay $50/year to surf reddit comfortably, I would probably do it in a heartbeat tbh

This set is not the cheapest wooden set you can get but I got it because I wanted wood (moisture absorbing) and wanted a set that still feels valuable. A numbers chess board that was all pawns was a plus. Overall I like the set, most astonishing is that I can en passant on every move now, of course it’s not the traditional experience of a chess cassette but it feels and sounds right.
