Using ASCII in URLs is simple and is less error prone than "supporting" unicode via percent encoding. It is also just a convention to use ASCII for usernames in many platforms. ASCII is also supported out of the box in major OSes while some unicode characters might not. What about impersonation? And what about people trying to type in the username of someone that uses unicode? It is not logical to use unicode in this case.

Canta uses Shizuku to delete user and systen apps. There is also a few categories like Recommended, Advanced, Unsafe, etc. Most of the apps also have comments on it by the dev (I suppose).

Because URLs are usually in ASCII. That was a standard. Check RFC 1738 and 3986. Now, you can use percent encoding, but why use that. It just complicates things.

I was just given a computer with unrestricted internet access and learnt it that way. Of course, the internet being unrestricted made me visit some questionable and illegal websites. Including CP and some hardcore NSFL using the tor browser. But I don't regret it (other than the last points).

No. It's for privacy. If they don't support anonymous payments, there's literally no reason to host a .onion site just to fool people. I'd say that's a big red flag from a "privacy respecting" company.

I couldn't care less as long as the language is good.
Why wouldn't I care if the language is bad in my opinion?
Asudox 1 month ago • 25%
Sure. It is open source, but the development is done by Apple engineers. I also would like to state that Go has trackers in it. I also don't really care what the creator of a language is. Homophobe, sexist, racist or other similar stuff, I couldn't care less as long as the language is good.

Welp, I haven't seen anyone learn Swift other than for Apple stuff these days. So I wonder how many can actually contribute to the code. It's also made by Apple, so yeah. It would have been more performant and secure (both of which are pretty important in a browser) if it was written in a more low level language. For example Rust.

They only realized that when he said that? What a weird infosec team. I guess they also could use SimpleX if they wanted the most secure, private and anonymous option, but I think Signal is pretty well balanced as a messenger. Good privacy and usability.

XMPP could have been great if it weren't left to die. The clients look like from the 2000s and encryption is a mess to set up. We instead have Matrix, which is pretty resource intensive to run and has its own problems but it practically functions like XMPP.

That strikes me as a terrible idea given what some people search on the web. I have also never run a TOR exit node.
It is somewhat like a TOR exit node indeed. Though you can easily prove your innocence by saying that you did not make these searches but that you merely run a meta search engine that helps others protect their privacy. Even the TOR project has templates for exit nodes to submit them to the government or whoever is contacting them in those cases.

SearXNG is a meta search engine, which means it gets the search results from other search engines (Google, Bing, Qwant, etc.) and show them to you. It acts a proxy, thus hiding the users IP. This means Google can't target ads based on your IP and also can't make a profile about you.

Gaming has not been a problem for me yet.
Proton works pretty good and games in Steam are starting to release builds for Linux as well because Steam Deck got popular (thanks Valve?) Minecraft Java also runs natively on Linux.

I refuse to believe Proton when they do advertisements lol. They also are being pretty suspicious with ignoring XMR support since years of people requesting it. If they ever even considered it a bit, their new shit Proton Wallet wouldn't allow you to store (or only store) bitcoin, which we all know has nothing that protects your privacy.

Firefox's sandboxing sucks ass (especially on Linux). Mozilla has still not implemented a better sandbox, despite the open discussion since years. GrapheneOS (a security and privacy focused aosp rom) uses Chromium for its browser Vanadium because it ultimately is undoubtedly more secure. Google pumps millions into their chrome security team.
So while not that good for privacy, chrome/chromium is better for security.

Why not run an SearXNG instance and help everyone instead? Y'know, Kagi is pretty expensive and they are also getting into AI shit.
Some talk about the privacy of the digital euro has been made. Some people said that your transactions are going to be tracked. Should an european worry about it? Would GNU Taler be a possible solution? And it's not like the digital euro is some dream, it will become reality soon.
I've been using arch for a while now and I always used Flatpaks for proprietary software that might do some creepy shit because Flatpaks are supposed to be sandboxed (e.g. Steam). And Flatpaks always worked flawlessly OOTB for me. AUR for things I trust. I've read on the internet how people prefer AUR over Flatpaks. Why? And how do y'all cope with waiting for all the AUR installed packages to rebuild after every update? Alacritty takes ages to build for me. Which is why I only update the AUR installed and built applications every 2 weeks.

Hello Lemmings. I will be attempting to make a federated anime tracker this summer, but I am not quite sure what features people would want and how I would get the details for animes, mangas, etc. For the latter: What I thought was to either scrape other anime websites continuosly in the background, but this most likely is against the ToS of every anime tracking website, such as AniList or MAL. (I actually asked anidb.net for special access to their DB because apparently you can request access to it, but I've been left on read by the two staff members) My second idea was to make it an anime tracker website where animes are only user-submitted. And the user submissions would be approved by assigned moderators. However, I think this would be quite inconvenient. I'd like to get your opinions and/or ideas for this. For the former: So if you have any requests or suggestions, please drop it down in the comments section. Thanks in advance.
Hello Lemmings, My 5 year old gaming laptop finally needs to be replaced. I need a new laptop for programming and light gaming. I no longer game on a laptop but a desktop. Though being able to play even outside would be nice so the laptop should be able to play at least Team Fortress 2. I'll be installing a Linux distro on it. My budget is around 800-1000€. The screen should be 14 or 15 inches. The battery should last at least 6 hours while not doing anything heavy as video editing or gaming.

Sup, I've been working on this project for the past few months and now it's finally finished. It's a MyAnimeList-based anime recommendation system written in Rust. Hello Lemmings, I've been working on a new anime recommendation algorithm the past 4 months and now I pretty much have the algorithm done. To test the accuracy of the algorithm, I am requesting any MyAnimeList user to post their MyAnimeList username along with their overall top 3 genres in descending order. This will then be compared to what the algorithm guessed. Thanks in advance.
So I want to make a new project. It will have a website and an algorithm which will handle the requests. The thing is, web development in Rust feels harder than say in Go or Python. So I thought maybe I could somehow make bindings in Rust for Go since the faster the algorithm is, the better. However, that seems to complicate stuff as well. So do you think I should just rewrite the current algorithm in Go? Is it fast enough for it to not be a noticeable difference? Edit: Thanks for the suggestions and advice! I decided to go with Rust for the website with Axum and the algorithm as well.

I made this bot so that users who want to provide a quick summary of the wikipedia article they linked to in their comment can do so just by including a mention of the bot in their comment, and the bot will reply to the comment with the summary. Currently multiple wikipedia links are not supported. bot: https://lemmy.world/u/wikibot
I created this bot so people that want to get a summary of the wikipedia article link they have in their comment can just mention the bot and the bot will respond to the comment with the summary of the wikipedia article. (the mention should be in the same comment as the wikipedia article link). Currently multiple wikipedia links are not supported. bot: https://lemmy.world/u/wikibot
This is a pretty neat feature which is unknown for some reason. For example, in the Lemmy frontend, you can "speak as mod" which basically distinguishes your comment from others. It highlights it, pins it to the top of the comment section and also adds a red shield next to your username. Try it by commenting in a post as mod, click on the three dots on your comment and click on the shield on the right.
is jerboa going to have better markdown support? For example, superscript and subscript markdown does not work.
It's pretty boring atm. Can't find anything good. Recommend me romance anime.
I want to give them money but since my childhood my parents pretty much told me that they are all either faking it or are too lazy to go to work for money. I mean, I guess they can go to work but not everyone gets accepted to work as easy as it sounds like.
This question has been stuck on my mind since last night. If dopamine signals were (somehow) artificially triggered during negative actions in someones brain through some machine or something, could the brain defy logic and reasoning and perceive those actions as positive?
I am specifically looking for Aiyoku no Eustia and Umineko: When They Cry
I just recently started documenting my code as it helped me. Though I feel like my documentations are a bit too verbose and probably unneeded on obvious parts of my code. So I started commenting above a few lines of code and explain it in a short sentence what I do or why I do that, then leave a space under it for the next line so it is easier to read. What do you think about this? Edit: real code example from one of my projects: ``` async def discord_login_callback(request: HttpRequest) -> HttpResponseRedirect: async def exchange_oauth2_code(code: str) -> str | None: data = { 'grant_type': 'authorization_code', 'code': code, 'redirect_uri': OAUTH2_REDIRECT_URI } headers = { 'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded' } async with httpx.AsyncClient() as client: # get user's access and refresh tokens response = await client.post(f"{BASE_API_URI}/oauth2/token", data=data, headers=headers, auth=(CLIENT_ID, CLIENT_SECRET)) if response.status_code == 200: access_token, refresh_token = response.json()["access_token"], response.json()["refresh_token"] # get user data via discord's api user_data = await client.get(f"{BASE_API_URI}/users/@me", headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {access_token}"}) user_data = user_data.json() user_data.update({"access_token": access_token, "refresh_token": refresh_token}) # add tokens to user_data return user_data, None else: # if any error occurs, return error context context = generate_error_dictionary("An error occurred while trying to get user's access and refresh tokens", f"Response Status: {response.status_code}\nError: {response.content}") return None, context code = request.GET.get("code") user, context = await exchange_oauth2_code(code) # login if user's discord user data is returned if user: discord_user = await aauthenticate(request, user=user) await alogin(request, user=discord_user, backend="index.auth.DiscordAuthenticationBackend") return redirect("index") else: return render(request, "index/errorPage.html", context) ```
So I wanted to get into ML using Python recently and I was wondering about which ML library I should learn as a ML beginner first. I've been using Python for a few years now.
I basically want to make a small personal website that probably won't get any attention. It will also be somewhat simple. Is Django overkill and I should use Flask or something else or is it okay? I tried learning JS and using ExpressJS but JS overall feels very loosely typed and I don't like it. I've been using Python for over 3 years now.
