It's really sad.
The killer was a former coworker who also lived in the same apartment.
The discussion:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nursing/comments/1fb9o7x/portland_nurse_melissa_jubane_missing_remains/
Three days after a just-married Oregon nurse was reported missing, she has been found dead and police have arrested one of her neighbors. Melissa Jubane, 32, was reported missing on Wednesday after she didn’t arrive for her morning shift as a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Center in Portland, “raising concerns among her coworkers, friends, and family,” the Beaverton Police Department said in a Saturday morning Facebook post.

Is there a way to apply and be a scab?
But id be the absolute worst employee. Like they'd tell me to do something and I'd do bare minimum while also shouting, "Well shit y'all can use a union."
I'm fully employed already in a salary position in a major tech company.

Scary. Ive been to a few of these shows and was considering this one, so I'm familiar with their feats.
Hope it's not a serious injury

Honestly I love self checkouts when I'm only grabbing a handful of things.
The issue is that a lot of theft occurs with self checkout, as people are checking out 2-3 things but secretly standing away a pile of things and walking out of the door.
Self checkout at this WinCo led to multiple security guards stopping people from exiting until they can review your order.

My major issue is that all the self checkouts have security up the wazoo because of how much theft occurs with self check out
My local Wincos had a self checkout, and only have 1 or 2 cashiers open. They used to have two security guards and three cashiers managing the self checkout, with a massive line of people all the way to the back. It was like that for two years. Today, I visited and they took the whole thing down, while having 5 checkout lines open. No security guards. Real pleasant experience.

EO Media Group is laying off 28 people amid financial troubles. The La Grande Observer, Blue Mountain Eagle, Hermiston Herald, Wallowa County Chieftain and Baker City Herald will all cease to publish print editions on July 1, according to an announcement from the chain’s publisher, Joe Beach. Subscribers will get copies of the East Oregonian in their mailboxes instead

It's always packed. But until we have more events where you can walk around in costumes with knives, swords, wizard staffs and doesn't smell like BO -- this is the best we got.

During jury duty, we got all sorts of shit for even whispering which court room we are going to. We were all numbers and even addressed ourselves as a number. And we were threatened repeatedly with fines and prison sentences.
This motherfucker gets to say whatever the fuck he wants and gets a bunch of verbal warnings and finger wagging.
This is why we lose trust in various govt systems

Looks like we share a cat!
Thought the folks on lemmy would like this. Original: https://www.reddit.com/r/BoomersBeingFools/comments/1by5wkx/boomer_lady_at_the_water_company_asked_if_i_sold/ Ok… picture it… Tillamook, Oregon. Yes, THAT Tillamook. Tiny town with more cows than people and most people who live there are old and crotchety. When you call the water company in the rural areas around town, a lady just answers, “Hello,” in a cranky voice that sounds like she was doing something way more important when you called her. She hand writes your bill on paper note cards and they don’t accept anything but checks as payment. Anyway, a couple weeks ago I call and tell her that I need to disconnect the water or put it in the new person’s name. Her: “It’ll be easier to just put it in the new person’s name. Do you know it?” Me: [name that sounds like maaaaaaybe it could Asian, but not really] Her: [name]? Are they Chinese? Me: I don’t know, but they’re moving over from Hawaii. So I kinda doubt it. Her: Well, good. Cause you know all them Chinese around here are all a bunch of drug dealers. Me: Uhhhhhh. Her: Alright, I got it down. You’ll get one more bill. [click] I sat there for a minute with my phone in my had, wondering what the fuck I had just heard. I always felt like everyone in that town had a robe and hood in their closet, but they usually kept it pretty low key. In any event, I sure hope that she gets to see the new people and rest assured that they have pretty, white faces. Fucking boomers. Especially rural, white boomers.

That's a really good question! Is there a way to look that up?
I was looking at houses in my neighborhood on Zillow and the house was gorgeous, but I rolled my eyes when I saw the old rates.
The idea that 40 years and this house cost than 10x more? I know there's a lot of other factors. I'm just... Sigh.

Is there a way to shut down or loudly announce the move for new posters? Like changing the name of the community?
When searching for a new community, I hate when I see 3 or 4 versions of the same topic and I just pick one at random. Uncertain if I'm part of a dead one or not.

Distilled water does not have chlorine!
With kimchi, I used very little water (only the amount the recipe suggests). The veggies I use( Chinese cabbage) contains a lot of water naturally and my batch always overflows once fermentation happens.

I absolutely took a in-person workshop and then watched a dozen YouTube videos.
My first batch was awful. Like putrid and rancid.
My second one was edible!
Some other stuff I found https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/1b4wed3/text_from_researchpollscom/
Third attempt in a year. It's the right texture, but I'm still missing something. It's not as good as store bought, but good enough. And I'm working on improving that zest. Kimchi sans fish sauce. Via https://www.liveeatlearn.com/how-to-make-kimchi/
She bought it for work reasons. I was not part of the printer decision. I own a brother printer.

Asus 202c from 2016. They're EoL, so they don't get chrome OS updates. Which means the Play Store is also outdated.
Overall, they're pretty nifty. Battery life is still solid. Keyboard and case is pretty durable.
I actually have a few of these chromebooks! (You can buy them from schools) I've reformatted one with Linux. Another is Chromebook + side loaded for coding. This one is just for browsing and taking notes.
But just the thought that some old person buying a computer and going, "Lemme pick up these Google Things that are $100" only to end up with these errors makes me sad.

I lived in Salem and visited the small towns between Portland/Salem.
It's backwaters AF. Pro-Trump, people who were really angry that a dude bend the knee at a sports game.
The independent investigator, southern Oregon attorney David Groff, also reported that Chase had favored some officers over others, made inappropriate sexual comments during a pat down and a training exercise, accused an officer of going easy on migrant workers because she was, in his words, “Hispanic too,” and allegedly told an officer that if he ever shoots a suspect to “put five more in him so he’s gone.”
They mailed the snacks in two regular boxes, inside a inverted box of the same thing. This was my childhood snack growing up, and I wanted to know if they still taste good. Spoilers: meh. It was better when I was a kid. Preemptive hail corporate - I wish I was getting paid to eat garbage.
