You're not wrong, and I can't believe how spot on you are. I do enjoy dev, and it is something I do in my spare time, I did break the family computer by tinkering and Dad did tell me not to do it again, and I'm still chasing that excitement of the "Mr. T" calculator app I wrote in Haskell 15 years ago.

I think I just want my job to be just a job the days, instead of this pressure to keep growing, learning the latest tech and keeping up with changes, and then needing to have a portfolio or personal projects to show that I'm still capable.

Maybe I'm just feeling this way at the moment because I'm job searching and it's so disparaging to be asked what favourite blogs are or the link to my portfolio website or github, or my favourite new feature of language X, and I just think I'm not that person. I've tried reading the books in my spare time and setting up an AWS dev account, but I just don't care.

Sorry, I just think your post set something off in me about how weird it is that we make this expectation of ourselves only in this industry it seems, and I think the pressure might be a bit unproductive at times.

Why do we devs have this weird need to do our jobs in our free time. We put this weird career specific cultural pressure for some reason.

Do other careers have this need to do work in your free time? You don't see brick layers itching to work on building a little house on the side, or lawyers just looking for a case to practice on.

    Why is it just devs?

Feddit.uk went down for a bit and no one knows why. We're seemingly back now though.

There is only one fully privileged admin (the original owner), and they're not super present. We have two other admins but they're restricted in what they can do (don't have access to the server itself I think?, can't upgrade).

A couple of users are setting up a new UK lemmy instance in response to this situation. One of those users is very keen for it to be a replacement, hence the posts. Not everyone is on board with it though. It's been put in hold while they iron some things out.

It's not an "official" replacement for feddit.uk in that sense, but it's another UK instance.

    What's everyone's thoughts on the 1000lbs club.

Is there any way to work out what numbers I should be aiming for for each exercise? I've got a deadlift PR for 175kg (~385lbs), I think I could squat 150kg (330lbs), maybe more, as I did it years ago. I'm worried about bench as I'm untested. I would need about 120kg (264lbs). I've been doing dumbbell bench for 4x12 @ 17.5kg (~38lbs). Today I alao did Incline Dumbbell bench for the same sets, reps and weight. I'm 14kg (32lbs) off with those numbers, so I'll probably tack it on the squat or redo the DL. Does anyone have any advice? Cheers!

40mph winds. Help me out with something here...

I've only just started paying attention the what the numbers mean in the last year or so. I remember it being 40kph last year and watching it out the window waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Now I've seen as high as 47mph on Beeb Weather and a weather warning, so this should be like 60 to 70kph winds, almost double last time. Can I expect my neighbours furniture to go flying or a bin to roll down the road or something this time?

Just wanted to drop a comment in support

I can't remember where I found out about Fenenc, but it's surprised me by how slick it feels compared to all the other Lemmy apps I've. Everything loads so fast and the scrolling has zero jitter. The other apps I've tried just dont compare for speed. The up/down vote percentage is a nice touch I havent seen anywhere else. My only gripe is that changing feed type/sorting method feel unintuitive to me, but its not a major issue. Anyway, I just wanted to drop in and give some support. I'll be using Fennec a lot more going forward and hope you keep it up. It was also nice to see its written in React Native so I might drop in a PR.

Support for people with partners with ADHD

I dont (I think) have ADHD, but my partner is in the process of pursuing a diagnosis. I was wondering if anyone was aware of any resources that would help me better understand and support them. I think the strain it can put on relationship is quite well documented, so I would appreciate resource that would help me. I've tried some podcasts aimied at people with ADHD, and that gives me and insight, but it doesn't help me understand want to do to be more supportive or helpful, as they just tend to moan about things people do wrong. Anything would be helpful. Cheers all!
