I found this software a couple of days ago. Not sure if it will really help with your first problem 😆 because I'm still figuring it out myself. But looks promising. https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects

For me, one of the most memorable was, beating Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls for the first time solo. It was a great feeling of accomplishment, and I could see that I really mastered that game's combat.

Okay, something simple. Being annoyed that you forgot to rewind the video cassette the last time you watched a movie.

Okay this took me back a lot. The nostalgia hits hard.

You get downloads and subs with NewPipe, too. But it boils down to preference. And I prefere a open source app to begin with instead of patching something.

Edit: I want to add that this problem occurred from one day to the next. I'm using Jellyfin as playback, but this effect even occurs when moving windows over the screen

Based on the screenshot I assume that you used youtube premium lite (what ever this was...) on your smartphone. Therefore, here the obligatory recommendation for NewPipe. Quasi Youtube Premium as apk. It has all the features you need:
- no ads
- you can close the app and your videos keep running in the background
- you can turn off the screen and your videos will continue to run in the background
There is also the fork NewPipe x SponsorBlock (link to repository) which integrates SponsorBlock into the app. (duh...) This will also skip the creator's ad blocks in the video.

I use Linux and the VLC player for playback. But the problem shows up with everything that happens on the screen, even when I move windows etc.
Yes, I have tried all the settings on my screen. So I think it must be something with the hardware.
The lower part of my screen is updated one frame earlier than the upper part. I was able to isolate the error to the HDMI output of my laptop. The screen or cable is not broken, as I don't get these errors with other connected devices. I am assuming it is some hardware defect. Does anyone know what it could be and how I could fix it? Here are a few pictures that show the problem: [pixelfed](https://pixelfed.social/p/Tanka/611711663807628749) Solved: Ok, it seems to have been a software problem. That had to do with the sync. The Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy by Patrick Rothfuss. It is not so much LotR becauseitt focuses on one main character. But it has a pretty clever and thoroughly thought out magic system and I for my part enjoyed the story. Link to openlibrary

absolutely. And especially the ease of joining. I think it is important to not overwhelm the new Users with questions about which server to join etc..

Isn't it the same with Lemmy? After the many blunders of Reddit, many users there certainly want a good alternative. But Reddit also has not only techsavy users. Perhaps we should learn from this and offer people Lemmy "simply" as an alternative, without talking much about decentralization when introducing this idea.

I can highly recommend Posteo. I have been using it for several years. It costs 12€ a year, but in my opinion that is a rather ridiculous amount to really think twice. In addition, you also get 2 alias email addresses. And if you don't want to have a "xyz@posteo.de" address you can also choose to have e.g. a "@posteo.net" or "@posteo.com" email.

here is the link to the original German news.
A translated quote from the article:
"With this resolution, city policy claims the shaping of municipal digital sovereignty and digital participation for itself. The resolution means a reversal of the burden of proof in favour of open source software and at the expense of proprietary software. In the future, the administration will have to justify why open source software cannot be used for every proprietary software application. Based on the report of the Dortmund city administration on the investigation of the potentials of Free Software and Open Standards, Open Source Software is understood in the sense of Free Software."
tl;dr
"In the future, the administration will have to justify why open source software cannot be used for every proprietary software application. "
this is the most important part. i hope this example will inspire many other cities>

like on a Linux I would recommend Firefox with uBlock Origin as add-on. This is also acsessable on Windows. I had this setup for many years before going full Linux.

yea you could be right. And specially in the regards of elderly or not that technicaly people Firefox with uBlock origins should be a good tradeoff between security and usability

I would recommend Firefox with uBlock Origin as add-on. If they use Linux (probably not but, maybe there are some) install them LibreWolf. It is a FOSS fork of Firefox and comes nativity with uBlock Origin.

It is also funded by Peter Thiel, the billionaire 'conservative nationalist' financing Facebook, Palantir Technologies, and the most egregious fascists in the Republican Party."

up to now I were using the app Alarm clock extreme. But I dislike that it uses very many trackers. Can someone please point me in the direction of a Foss alarm clock app that has a feature to put puzzles like simple calculations before the deactivation of the alarm?
