Really geography has a big influence, it's all about cost of a cable vs. possible rate of return from subscribers.
Oh yeah totally. I live in a country with lots of island and it's a logistical nightmare. As a result, the eastern most part of my country still doesn't have internet. It's not even because the government is incompetent, it's because it's hard. AFAIK at least

Can I be honest? Religion. Anything related to it, somehow will get someone downvote me. Even if I just mention "God" or something. I get that I should "separate the church from the state" or I should be secular here or whatevs, and I respect that. It's not like every time I mention I force it down to everyone's throat!
Tbh I wanted to make a post that greet everyone on Lemmy that are doing Ramadhan fasting at first, but now I don't even feel like doing that. There's no point of posting it, I guess, if it got downvoted and no one wants to see it.
I guess this means that Lemmy isn't much different from Reddit...

Syncing probably, but even that can be solved by another excellent software called Syncthing... Or just spend money to subscribe to their sync service, if you have it :)

Yeah good news for them in Japan. And many developing countries are building HSR too, like Indonesia for example.
Meanwhile, US? California's HSR doesn't seem to be built soon enough, heard the price increased significantly somehow

There are so many YouTubers talking about this. This YouTuber in particular (がみ) apparently managed to ride the first train from Kanazawa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WVRZLWj6rs This also marks the end of their previous limited express trains, Thunderbird

I'm still okay with a bit of politics discussion, but seeing US politics on timeline everyday?? I am NOT a US citizen and I DO NOT CARE about their politics at all. And the doomerism posting, so so tired of them.
That's why I tend to follow casual community like !artshare, music related stuff, etc. I also made a community for japanese trains, though it's my first time running a community so I'm kinda confused how to run the community.

How to accept and let go of someone. I lost my dad very early in my life. It was sad, and unexpected, and to this day it does feel like I lack a father figure (hope this doesn't sound weird, English isn't my first language). But, I realize, there's no use excessive crying over someone's death. It's not like I can change anything about that. I learned quickly it's better to leave the past and move on.
If you ask me whether I miss him or not, I do miss him. But, really, it's not something I can control.

It manages to somehow be even worse than TikTok is for un-signed-in users.
Ikr? It's so fucking stupid--both Twitter and IG are worse than TikTok in case of this.
Let's say you open a random Instagram link. Or a tweet link. You never know whether you will be able to see the link or not, it's just a random chance in my.experience. If not--I swear this is the stupidest part of this--theyll straight up just show you an ambiguous error message, like "An error happened". If you really want to push new users to create an account, AT THE VERY LEAST SHOW A ACCOUNT SIGN UP PAGE DAMN IT!!!. God damn, software are getting worse every day, and this comes from a programmer. Software tooling are better than ever, but these companies will continue enshittify their product! Damn.
Ever read a book, watched a movie, or played a video game that you love the universe/world so much that you want to move there and live there forever?
The distance between Jakarta and Bandung are about 143km and Whoosh can travel between them for only around 45 minutes. There is also a plan to extend this to go to Surabaya through Yogyakarta, but this isn't clear yet. Since I'll probably never ever join, much less create a band, here you go. You can use my unused idea of a band name I saved for a pretty long time...
I'm assuming that most of you are from the US so probably using cars, but lemme know if you use trains, subways, buses, etc. Me? Back when I was doing an internship I walked to a nearby station for 10 minutes then transited to another train line, which could be an instant or 20 minutes wait. After that I walked for 10 minutes to my work place. So it was probably about 40 minutes of commute. Of course, I live in tropical country so I'm drenched in sweat as I arrive in the office. Fortunately every year my city's public transportation seems to get better and as a result I barely needed to use cars.
