What are you playing this weekend? 2024-09-13

There's no change in my games this week. Still playing **[Greedfall](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP4133-PPSA02982_00-GREEDFALL0000000/)**. I am starting to like the game more now. There were some surprises in narrative, which I wasn't expecting, and your choices can effect outcomes of different things, which I also wasn't expecting. Had to stop playing at an interesting place, so excited to play over the weekend to find how the story progresses. **[Earthlock](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP1188-CUSA11238_00-EARTHLOCKSHOULDH)** is still my primary Switch game. Nothing to add here. It's a nice, modern JRPG. Still playing it, still enjoying it. I was right about **Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter** last week. I was in the final dungeon of first chapter. Finished that, and just started the second chapter. Fortunately it didn't expire my remaining side-quest, so finished them all before going to next region for chapter two. Playing it slowly, cause I want to finish Earthlock before Zelda release, so this is going to take a few months to finish. What about all of you? What have you been playing?

Astro Bot Gets a Small Update This September 12 as Version 1.003 mp1st.com

> Team Asobi has not released any patch notes yet, though we are hoping this title update will be to fix the crashing issues, and even a save issue that is plaguing players. It seems you have to exit via the dashboard to make a save, as doing otherwise leads to your progress not being saved (one [ResetEra poster](https://www.resetera.com/threads/astro-bot-save-warning-you-have-to-exit-via-the-dashboard-to-make-a-save-doing-otherwise-leads-to-no-save-being-made-i-lost-5-hours-progress.974571/) lost five hours of progress due to this).

Games industry layoffs not the result of corporate greed and those affected should "drive an Uber", says ex-Sony president www.eurogamer.net

>Ex-Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Chris Deering does not believe recent layoffs across the games industry have been a result of corporate greed. Instead, workers who have lost their jobs should "drive an Uber" or "go to the beach for a year" until employment settles. >Deering was a guest on games writer Simon Parkin's podcast My Perfect Console, where the pair discussed games industry layoffs. >"I don't think it's fair to say that the resulting layoffs have been greed," said Deering. "I always tried to minimise the speed with which we added staff because I always knew there would be a cycle and I didn't want to end up having the same problems that Sony did in Electronics." What a prick. Revenue grew 17% last year but need to lay people off lol. ["Sony has released its FY2023 financial results, revealing that its game and network services revenue grew 17% to ¥4.3 trillion ($27.5 billion). Likewise, the company’s FYQ4 (ending March 31, 2024) gaming revenue saw a modest 2% bump to ¥1.1 trillion ($7.0 billion).](https://venturebeat.com/games/sony-playstation-fy23-financial-results/) [According to its earnings presentation, Sony attributes these gains to increased sales of non-first party titles and add-on content. The company sold 286.4 million games — 14% of which were first party titles. While the year’s total game sales grew 8%, first party sales fell 9% compared to FY23."](https://venturebeat.com/games/sony-playstation-fy23-financial-results/)

ASTRO BOT free DLC coming in 2024, adds speedruns and new VIP bots www.gematsu.com

> “Yes, so we have free [downloadable content]—so it’s going to be free,” Doucet said. “It’s going to come this year. It will be smaller. You know it’s not going to be like, you know, a huge, huge amount, but it will be focusing on one of the features that people enjoyed in ASTRO’s PLAYROOM—that was the speedruns. You know, there were some speedruns, and the levels were quite short, but it was the fact that you could replay and keep shaving time off… with some new VIP bots to rescue, so some characters we didn’t include yet will appear. But yeah, that’s going to come, and that’s going to focus really on kind-of challenging levels. But if we can, we’d like to also insert something a bit toy-feeling, something that could be really like for any pla

What are you playing this weekend? 2024-09-06

Sorry for the delay, I wasn't home so got a day late, but after posting the weekly thread on Nintendo yesterday, when I was about to post here, had to step out today, so this got two days late. Next should be back on Friday (hopefully). Anyways, without further ado: Playing **[Greedfall](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP4133-PPSA02982_00-GREEDFALL0000000/)** on PS5. I mentioned weak combat last week, but I have gotten used to it now. My companions keep dying though, they kill a few but often end up dead, specially my tank. But with some upgrades, I can just dodge around and keep attacking with my magic missile, so not too bad. One good thing about the game is, when you are switching from one region to next, you end up in a campsite (which work as a hidden loading screen), allowing you to update equipment of all your companions (even the one not in party), put away anything good, and sell everything else. Means you don't have to worry about not getting over-encumbered before you reach another town. Finished **[Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0102-CUSA11513_00-AAT123FULLGAME00)**. That last episode was something else. Probably the strongest one in the series yet. It was also great to see the character progression. Still have one game left in the trilogy, but will play it later. Played and finished **[Raging Justice](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP4064-CUSA11805_00-RAGINGJUSTICE000)**. A side scroller brawler. I liked the art style, though the moving animation is bit weird, but nothing too bad. It was a fun game, though a bit difficult at times, as you get tons of enemies at once. Had to use 3-4 continues, but finished the game. You can replay using different characters or play the "Brawl" mode, which is basically an Arcade mode where enemies keep coming in waves. This was released before the current resurgence of brawlers like Street of Rage 4 or TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, and frankly isn't as good as those, but if you have already played those and want to try another side-scroller, it's a pretty good one. Played and finished **[Ape Out](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/ape-out-switch/)**. Like Raging Justice this has been on my wishlist for quite a while, so just picked it up. It's a bit like Hotline Miami, but you are an ape, so you can't use weapons. You can only attack, or hold the people as shield. The visuals are really gerat, very minimal but very impactful. Trailers don't do justice to the game. Same goes with the sound, it's Jazz-ish, I think. Highly recommended to every one to at least try the demo. Currently playing **[Earthlock](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP1188-CUSA11238_00-EARTHLOCKSHOULDH)**. It's a JRPG, but with modern visuals. I have only played it a little bit yet, so can't say much about it. The games has a demo that carry overs the save, so if you want, you can check it out. With all those games, didn't get much time for **Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter** , but I think I am very close to end of the first chapter. It's nice to see meet the people from first game, and visit those locations again. But not much to say about this either. Will try to focus on this one this week. Though I do want to finish my current Switch game (Earthlock) before the release of Zelda. So let's see. What about all of you? What have you been playing?

Astro Bot countdown party in ASTRO's PLAYROOM https://youtu.be/RTFiMqPR2b0?si=Hs-wh7q9CAru2wbg

For anyone who missed it (or who wasn’t aware), there was a “countdown party” in ASTRO’s PLAYROOM for the release of the new Astro Bot game. Not knowing what to expect I captured the last 10 minutes prior to release; for those who want to fast forward more begins to happen around the 9 minute mark, with a countdown ten seconds prior to the new game being available to play. Enjoy!
