Thanks. Indeed I had to change this setting. Will test it as soon as I could fix some sync issue with an image I have now. I think this prevents it also from working in background.

Privacy focused people use more often Linux so the percentage of Linux users for proton services might be a bit higher. I don't care about a calendar or mail app but I think a proton drive client for Linux would be important.

Mir fehlen etwas die Nischencommunities. Reddit war und ist halt immer noch zentral wenn man aktuelle Infos z.B. zu einem bestimmte Game oder so braucht. Bei Lemmy ist das nur schon aufgrund der Dezentralisierung schwer zu erreichen. Zudem vermisse ich etwas die langen Kommentarketten. Vieles war Müll aber es hatte auch immer eine Menge ganz interessanter Threads bei denen man viel gelernt hat.

Embarrassing, but I never knew that you actually have to activate proton in the steam settings in order to install games which natively don't support Linux. This kept me from switching completely.

Now I use Fedora with KDE and can also run MS games like AoE without any problem. Even the performance is often a lot better for example in BG3.

Erstmal danke für deine ausführliche Antwort. Ein Linux Desktop wäre zwar ein Traum, aber ich mache mir da keine Illusionen, wie du schreibst ist das eher die seltene Ausnahme. Für und auf Linux Systemen zu entwickeln wäre wohl meine Richtung. Wahrscheinlich brauche ich einfach mal einen Tapetenwechsel und muss in eine etwas grössere Firma die wirklich professionell Software entwickelt. Wenn ich das alles hier so lese bestärkt sich mein Gefühl, dass wir bei uns ziemliche "Bastler" sind. Auch ein Grund warum ich gehe.

Outlook finde ich sogar ganz gut. Teams hingegen gar nicht. Die Performance ist auch in der neuen Version einfach nur grottig. Mein Firmen-Laptop ist zwar nicht die schnellste Kiste, aber ein Wechsel zwischen den Channels und den Chats in unter 3 sek Ladezeit wäre schon angebracht. Einzelne Tools und im Grundsatz auch Win 10 als OS sind ganz in Ordnung. Mich nervt eher das Ökosystem. Aber du hast recht, das wird man in der Business-Welt leider nicht so schnell los.

Werde mir nach den zahlreichen Berichten hier definitiv den Cloud und DevOps Bereich noch etwas näher anschauen ;)

Unsere Projekt werden schlussendlich schon auf Ubuntu oder Debian Webservern gehostet. Halt in der Regel auf einem managed Hosting, dadurch haben wir kaum was mit den Servern zu tun (ausser mit Plesk). Die Entwicklung lokal findet auf Windows statt.

In meiner Gegend findet man leider fast nichts bzgl. SW-Entwicklung im Linux-Umfeld. Bisher habe ich genau eine Bude die wirklich voll auf Linux setzt gefunden, aber die hatten leider keinen Bedarf. Systeme administrieren wäre ein Thema. Aber als Entwickler fehlt es mir dort natürlich an Erfahrung und vielleicht habe ich auch eine falsche Vorstellung davon. Wollte einfach mal hören was die Linux-Gurus beruflich so den ganzen Tag machen ;)

Ja, es ist schon etwas pain. Wobei wir vorallem mit Wordpress arbeiten. Mit WP-Local hast du auch unter Windows schnell deine Dev-Umgebung hochgezogen, immerhin.

Web-Backend, also vorwiegend PHP. Dadurch habe ich oft mit Webservern zu tun, halt nur im Hosting. Aber da wir natürlich O365 im Einsatz und genügend MS-Jünger haben findet die Entwicklung und alles weitere auf Windows statt.

Ich frage mich was sich der oder die Künstlerin beim letzten Bild gedacht hat? Ich meine schaut euch mal dieses arme Vögelchen an.

Ich bin aktiv im Forum meines Lieblings-Fussballvereins. Noch vor etwa 10 Jahren hatte fast jeder 1. und 2. Ligist in der Schweiz ein eigenes, heute leider nur noch die grösseren Klubs. Spannenderweise nimmt aber die Aktivität in unserem sogar eher zu.

Fast interessanter als die Themen zum Verein sind für mich das Off-topic und generelle Fussball-Themen. Viele Nutzer sind schon seit über 10 oder gar 20 Jahren dabei und das Niveau ist für ein anonymes Forum meistens ziemlich hoch. Ich finde es schade wenn solche Foren immer mehr verschwinden. Solche Communities die sich über viele Jahre hinweg bilden sind kaum zu ersetzen.

Interestingly Amazon is almost non existent in Switzerland. I think they didn't ship or only with high fees in the first years so it never became famous. We have our own solutions like galaxus.ch or brack.ch. I only ordered twice on Amazon and that just because the products were not available in any other shop.
