Growing up, a neighborhood kid did this. All the other kids were scared of him and we all used to hide when he came outside to play. No one knows what ever happened to him…he dropped off the face of the earth after leaving home during high school, and his family moved out of the country a year later. Sometimes I wonder what he ever wound up doing….

I hate these people. It’s one thing to be dumb and obstructionist. It’s another to think that being dumb and obstructionist by spewing pure nonsense makes you clever. The fact they think they’re clever damn near gives me a stroke.

“The system accurately reflects what people vote for.” …Boy I have this fun American institution called the electoral college that begs to differ. Trump lost the popular vote but he sure did become president. Further examples? Majority support for the right to abortion in poll after poll but guess what? SCOTIS repudiated decades of precedent and decided it doesn’t exist as a constitutional right, at which point multiple states severely limited the right, often against clearly expressed public sentiment. America is not a democracy and it’s national politics so not serve its people.

Sovereign citizens are some of the stupidest dregs of society. It doesn’t even take proper legal training to realize how wrong and how stupid their statements are when they do this kind of garbage.

This is basically trying to save face. They may as well say “no really, all you plebs shouldn’t hate us! It’s not our fault we’re rich and don’t pay taces!” Because they can feel now how bad things are getting and how much worse they’re likely going to get as the decade unfurls

I’m gonna third AMG! It’s one of the few review sites that I think has consistently good reviews of a decently wide array of metal. And I’m not just saying that because I agree with them…I’m saying that because they introduced me to Blood Incantation. Which anyone unfamiliar should absolutely give a listen!

Thank you very much for the best diagnosis of this country I’ve yet to read on here! I could agree more, and it’s frankly rather heartbreaking to see people exploited by right wing psychopaths simply because they’re too uneducated to know any better.

I boost Joplin on here every chance I get, so please allow me to do so again now! I run it with my own sync server and a small userbase of about 6 people on a cheap VPS. I could not be happier; between the webclipper, sharing, encryption, embedding of pdfs, photos, even mp4s, ease of selfhosting, it’s an amazing project! It’s been (knock on wood) rock solid!

No offense, but is this move motivated by a true need to move ASAP? Because this doesn’t really read like it was written by someone in their thirties. Frankly, if it’s not a true need, it doesn’t seem from this post that you’re in a financial position to do this on anything close to a safe manner. And thus: if this is just a desire, no matter how strong the impulse is, it sounds like you need to wait.
I am not trying to be patronizing or condescending: I would just hate to see someone put themselves at the mercy of the world like it seems you may be about to.

Downside is it will push teens to free VPNs and those are almost always malicious.
Absolutely assinine regulatory decision brewed by people that do not understand how the world or people work at all.

Hello, and forgive me for throwing in a text post. I was wondering what you guys would recommend for a newcomer! I just got into black metal about 6 months ago, and I’m digging it, mostly Mayhem and Darkthrone and Bathory, so nothing super out-there or unknown. I’d love some recommendations for good bands!
Hello, all, it’s Pangolin again. I was thinking we here could start out own reading club! My thoughts for how this could work: 1. Once a month, we decide what to read—whether we choose an epic poem, a collection, or something else—by creating a post, making suggestions, and deciding via upvote. (Obtuse, but I can’t figure out how to make polls/if doing so is possible in Lemmy right now.) 2. We create a separate post on which we can discuss our chosen work(s) until the end of the month. 3. We do this for as long as people are interested. So: if you’re interested, please comment your suggested reading for August! Also feel free to criticize this idea/suggest ways to improve it!
Hello, fellow fediverse poetry lovers! Like the title suggests, who are your favorite poets? I figured a post like this could be fun and could help us all discover new poets! To start things off, I’ll list my top three at the moment: 1. William Carlos Williams 2. Pablo Neruda 3. T.S. Elliot Happy to elaborate on why I chose any of them or share my recommendations for poems by any of them. More importantly, though, I’d love to hear what you guys think!
# What do we have here? Greetings, fellow carbon-based life forms. I’ve gon ahead and created [Rimjob Steve](lemmy.world/c/rimjob_steve): a place for wholesome posts/comments by those with inappropriate/rude usernames! If you’re familiar with the original subreddit, you get the idea. If not, I have posted an example in the new Lemmy community! # Why did I make this? I really enjoyed the subreddit! # Who is Pensivepangolin? I’m literally just some person. Right now I’m the only mod, and I’m not affiliated with the subreddit in anyway, other than as someone that enjoyed it when they still used Reddit. I’m more than willing to bring people on to moderate it if the community gets an real volume of users! I’m also more than happy to answer any questions! Also if any mod of that sub ever winds up seeing this and wants to contact me, please feel free to hit me up on here. I’m going to be setting up a mastodon account shortly, and I’ll edit the post to include it when that’s done!
