The amount of times people have called my trumpet a saxophone, or my trombone a saxophone, or my clarinet a saxophone, or my melodica a saxophone, or my saxophone a saxophone apauls me.

Never call someone a saxophone; not only is it rude, it's a slur and against the law.

    Fully agree.

My take as of late is that any 3rd party candidate who runs in our two party system can't possibly be serious. They make a huge show, maybe get a message out, but almost always torpedo the party closest to them.

With the Stein's and RFKs in the news, it's all sexy flashy publicity without any serious effort to have a 3rd party win.

That said, there is another 3rd party personality that you might not have heard of in a while: Andrew Yang.

I actually believe he is serious about electoral reform, in fact that's the one issue his Forward Party is about. He and his team have worked quietly to help get ranked choice vote in local elections. He is not running for president as a spoiler candidate. He is not running for senate as an independent. He is putting in the work along with fairvote.org to make the structural changes needed to have viable 3rd party campaigns. We saw what happened in Alaska when ranked choice vote was present- they kept Sarah Palin from holding a Senate seat and elected a Democrat instead.

If we had the NPVIC and ranked choice vote, our democracy would be much more representative, collaborative, and stable.

Basically, but the next step is to forgive and love that part as well. That part of you developed for a reason. If you can name what that part of you is, you might be able to look back to a time where that part of you was what was helping you. Now that you are living a different life, the game is to tell that part to step to the side and let another part of you take the wheel.

At least that's what a gleaned from my conversation last night.

If it helps anyone in a similar situation, after a shroom trip two weeks ago, I realized my issue is a deeeeeep seated shame- my "Mr. Ethics" vibe is a facade and if you cross examined me long enough you would find out I'm rotten to the core.

I know this is false, but it's so engrained it's hard to shake.

In relationships, I'll feel very anxious because I feel like "the jig is gonna be up soon, they'll see you for who you are, you will hurt them" so I'll usually drop and run.

    4 hours later

Also I started this comment a few hours ago, but since have chatted with my friend over beers and he told me about "parts therapy". Basically acknowledge there are many parts to you, there is no single you. There is the "superhero" you, the "deviant" you, the "artist", the "lover", etc. So in trying to identify this core I believe is rotten, I came up with "the sleezy politician". I feel like I can manipulate people like hell- I can put on the charm to get what I want or to avoid risk. I can think of times when this version of me was necessary as a survival mechanism. Highschool was clique-city, and the theater department was a social minefield. My family had a heavy political side. Growing up I felt like I had a superpower to lie and get away with anything, it took me a while to realize it wasn't a superpower but would hurt me so much more later. All that I learned through that is something I now need to undo, and that is to be comfortable with myself and not care about how others see me.

Ooof sorry I kinda word vomited but thanks for being my prep for tomorrow's therapy sesh.

Also she wasn't even really interrupting him. If you watch the clip, she was muted and he was easily heard over her. It wasn't as if she was really steamrolling.

You can tell it got under his skin in 2020, and this was just a pathetic way to "get back" at her for being a woman who asserted herself in a debate.

So I had to look up the Boltzmann constant and... That's a lot of math.

I think you have a point on the decreasing human temperature. It looks like the decrease is at 0.05°F every decade, which actually is quite a bit. If it was something like 0.005°F, I'd say that that's a problem for the people of the year 2500 to solve.

That said, the reason it's been decreasing seems to be due to medical advances and not some change in the Earth's gravity or climate change. I would be surprised to see humans in the year 2500 having an average body temperature of 72.9°F, or closing in on 0°F in the year 3,984. I imagine there will be fluctuations, but there's got to be a lower limit to what is physically possible.

I'd still defend the Celsius number, since even though there are changes due to air pressure, it's changing over space and not time. In the year 2500, water at sea level will still freeze at 0°C.

I think my big thing is I'm less concerned about a logically consistent scale, and more towards a scale that's geared to the emotional side of temperature.

    Thinking outloud moment

If we are going for the emotional side of temperature specifically, we would also need to factor in wind, humidity, sunlight, what season it is, etc. and that's a lot of variables, and even then that's how you get the wind-chill factor. But even that is almost completely subjective. I feel like that scale would go from "IT'S GOTTA BE NEGATIVE A MILLION FUCKIN' DEGREES" to "I FEEL LIKE IM ON THE SURFACE OF THE SUN, so like a bazillion degrees" and then we go to the traffic report.

Either way, it's not a perfect scale, but I'd still take that over the other two.

I present the temperature scale that I made up- the Human Scale (H°)

I thought about the Fahrenheit vs Celsius debate, and I think both have practical uses, however I think combined they could make a very practical scale.

Fahrenheit: while my American sensibilities agree that 100° is a good marker for what % of my patience is used up to cut a removed, I think a similar place would be the average human body temperature. For this reason, 100°H = 98.6°F . It's not a perfect match, but it can still give us the satisfaction of "IT'S 100°!?" while having practical implications for medical uses "your body temperature is 102°, 2° warmer than average".

Celsius: I think this scale makes a ton of sense for colder temperatures. When the thermometer reads 0°, that's when you can expect snow. For this reason, 0°H = 0°C.

    The conversation rates are:

    H = (F-32) × 1.5

    H= C × 2.7

    More precise is

    H = (F-32) × 1.501501501...

    H = C × 2.7027027027...

While using the freezing point of water and the average human body temperature seem like inconsistent and arbitrary benchmarks, my goal is less about consistency and more about practicality for everyday use.

Now watch this scale grow as big as Esperanto.

So my personal take on shopping cart theory is that it assumes putting away shopping carts is not a fun job.

I have worked at whole foods for 2 years, and the thing I hated the most was how it felt like Bezos's watchful eye was always on you. The supervisors could be super persnickety about your breaks. Compared to my new life as a self employed musician, it was like prison, but that's retail for ya.

I personally loved cart duty. It was a time when I could go outside, get some fresh air, and not be under the surveillance of that god awful company*.

So now if it is a nice day out, I will go out of my way to put the cart in left field. I call it a chaotic good move.

That said the "it keeps jobs" is BS. If cart duty wasn't a thing, the person would still be filling baskets and cleaning windows.

*Note: the Halstead location in Chicago was actually really great. Maybe it was the Stockholm syndrome of working retail during pandemic, maybe it was Midwestern kindness, but that team actually seemed to care about each other's wellbeing and we'd even hang out. I lean towards Midwestern kindness though, I moved here from Seattle and while I miss the mountains, I CERTAINLY do not miss the social scene. Despite what the news tries to tell you, Chicago takes care of its own. Even when I was a stranger in a strange land, and then homeless during polar vortex, the people took me in. Every. Night.

Not sure if I'd visit, but I'd definitely live here.

Sorry for the Chicago tangent, I'm a few handshakes deep and I get emotional about this fuckin' place.

It's one of those quirks of the human brain where we can make faces from almost anything. In a more romantic view, we are always looking for connection, so we always look for faces. It might even be that we use this as a survival method. Just like when you take time to shelter yourself under a bush to hide. It was late October, the leaves on the ground created a great cushion to keep yourself safe. You had been running and hiding for the last 30 hours, but now you needed sleep. It was a risk that you calculated. You could try to keep going, but delusion is what took Sam. You make the most discreet of breathing holes, and you bunk in for then night. You try to sleep, but you only can think of the shrieking Sam made as he was torn apart by those wolves. You tried your best, at least you try to convince yourself that. Why couldn't you save your friend while you yourself held that spear? You who only fended the beasts off after they had done away with Sam? Is it true that maybe you have become the monster that you were running from?

    But your thoughts are interrupted.

You hear the clopping of hooves. He was able to track you this far. You thought you just had to worry about the elements, but you forgot about the element of surprise. You hold your breath, trying to not make a sound. Soon you hear his horse trot away. Safe, for now. But you knew this was way too close of a call. You had to keep creating distance, if you can find the shore, you can find your boat. If you find your boat you are home free.

You decide to make a break for it. You jump and hop through the brush, trying to keep your bearings, but then you feel a snag.

    The trap was released.

You didn't have time to react. You were immediately flung upwards, and now you find yourself upside down. Already so tired, you don't think you can fight this one, but you keep trying to free yourself. Even then, you freeze when you hear the footsteps.

    There he was.

The man you wished to never see again. The one you swore vengeance on. The one who now stares up at you with a maddening glee. He still is splattered with the blood of Sam, and now he looks at you and sees his next victim. "Not like this" you think "not because of him". But it is. It always was. I always has been him. He is

    Shia LaBeouf

But honestly I think it's a great thing we keep looking for connection in the universe around us.

    680 Subscriber line crossed!

Hey all, We have hit **682** subscribers, which if you are not aware, is the legally recognized limit where we can become a church rather than a niche community of map nerds. I just wanted to take time to thank every one of you who were sent here by a prank hyperlink, saw what we do, and thought "I want front row seats to this train wreck". Your optimism to consider !cartographyanarchy@lemm.ee a train is what drives the mod team to continue to not have to do jack shit but cross post maps of the US that have been photocopied a couple times, read a few comments and proposals for marriage, light up a massive ol' bong, and watch [Marble racing YouTube videos](https://youtu.be/HWd7OUVq5k4?si=4jQ8VIgbOTP2G_7_). When I started this sub, I was just a guy with nothing to prove but that I could hijack a subreddit, build my own mod team, go dark in the protest of 2023, fight god, lose, get exiled to Dallas, get told about Lemmy in prison, join after being rejected by yiffit, Lemmynsfw, and lemmy.ml, create a community devoted to tearing the western world down brick by brick, and then pivot to silly maps after seeing the wifi name "AbsolutelyNotFBI" pop up in my phone. But here we are, and "AbsolutelyNotFBI" no longer shows up when I try to connect to my wifi. Thank you all so much for making that lemonade stand across my street that was run by two grown men in suits and wearing earpieces go away. With that said, I want to announce that in our next year, we will go where no other Lemmy community has gone before. The moon. That's right, with your help, I can ask my wealthy and politically influential dad to bully Elon Musk into giving us a spaceship. As a subscriber to this community, you will be on that spaceship too, whether you like it or not. We will create a new society separate from the mess of late stage capitalism. We will wear silly clothes. We are not a space cult. We are not a space cult. We are not a space cult. If you feel the same excitement as I do for the future of !cartographyanarchy@lemm.ee, please post more maps, comment, mention us in other threads when relevant, sell all your possessions, and buy my book on how a life of memes on the moon will liberate you from the horrors of this earth. I continue to be humbled by how many people have been posting, and how many people here are A list actors. Keep up the good work! Sic Semper Tyranus, ~Meep

So I think I realized I hate myself but didn't realize it. I've been as outwardly focused as I could be for as long as I can remember. I love beeing a shoulder to cry on, to root on my friends as they improve their lives, and creating spaces where people come together to make music (I host weekly jams in Chicago).

But one thing I've noticed is I get really nervous when people start getting close to me. I've tried to have relationships, and pretty soon I just feel a pit of anxiety and things end pretty quick. Even friendships can make me feel nervous. I consider myself super extraverted, and I have no problem addressing large groups, but it's a very small club of people who I actually feel okay being me with.

Recently I realized I'm not in that club. I don't feel comfortable alone, and I thought that was just the extraversion, but I realized it's that I mostly ruminate on every shitty thing I've ever done and feel really bad. If I can't feel comfortable with myself, how can I feel comfortable showing that to anyone else?

My friend just got married, and he said the thing that he felt was the core of it was that he felt as comfortable being at home with his wife as he would being alone. That made me realize I'm not ready for a relationship right now.

Honestly it's amazing how sleep, diet, and exercise really are effective at overall happiness. Studies show that one of the best things you can do is to get the heart rate up, but it could be anything. Yoga, bicycling, or even running. Running really fast. Never stopping, no matter what. "Not like this, dear God not like this" you think as you fling yourself further and further into the forest. There is a sudden chill in the air as a fog rolls in over the snow. Moonlight is all that illuminates the forest, and fortunately the snow helps show a path, but not very far. You look down at the ground and you can see the bloodstains that leave a trail right to you. You lift each leg as much as you can in agony as your ski boots weigh you down. You know you can't hide, so the only thing is to try and get back to the ski patrol cabin. Someone is bound to be there and they could give you medical attention.

How you wish you had your skis. How you wish you didn't lose them when that... Thing separated you from Sam and you caught an edge and fell. You remember that Sam had the backpack with food and water, so survival for you will be much more difficult.

You keep digging your boots into the snow as if they were ice climbing spikes. Suddenly ahead you see a soft orange glow- a cabin. Could it be ski patrol? No it seems too residential. Could it be a vacation cabin? No, it has warped boards and broken windows. How could there be anyone inside to turn on a lamp?

But between freezing to death and going to a creepy cabin, you choose the cabin. You keep pushing up and up until you get to the door. You enter the cabin to see the glow is coming from the fireplace, and sitting in front of it is Sam! "Oh thank God!" You exclaim, but Sam doesn't turn around. Your heart pounds as you panic. "Sam?" You walk over to his body, but as soon as you touch him he falls to the side. You look and you see his hands were bound and his stomach was slashed open revealing his intestines. Well, most of them, there are chunks of his guts bitten off. You scream in horror as the harvested body of the only friend you had lays before you. Only last night Sam asked you to be his best man at his wedding. How are you going to tell the news to Sarah? She had already been through so much after having to deal with you and Sam being deployed for 18 months in Kuwait, and just as you finally get back from surviving desert storm he dies like this?

You suddenly hear a wet smacking and gnashing of teeth. It turns out there were three of you in the cabin. You spin around to see a man with blood all down his chin and wild eyes stairing back. He's eating bits of flesh as if it was a bit of beef jerky. He takes a deep, bone rattling inhale through the nose as if to smell you. You never thought this would be how it ends. You realize now you won't get the chance to tell what happened to Sarah. The ghost stories were real- it was him all along. You couldn't believe it, but there he was.

    Shia LaBeouf

I mean I can tell you when I finally sucked it up and started running, my happiness went through the roof. If you are on that path to feel better, know that I am rooting for you! Just one step at a time.

I mean yea we want to stop erosion, but also going in a straight line is efficient. It's all you can afford. You are in a dead sprint, forgetting the gash on your head. Down, down, down hill you go- it gets steeper but you try to use gravity to your advantage. You can't let him catch you. You need to get to your car as soon as possible. What you and Sam saw back there was too much, and you both need to get as far away as possible. You are almost leaping with every sprint, but then you hit a patch of loose gravel and slip backwards, hitting your head on the ground. You feel dazed as you curl up grabbing the back of your skull. More blood comes out onto your hands, you know you are concussed but you also know the only way for survival is forward. You get back up and move as fast as you can. You look for Sam but in the confusion you lost him. You look around but the California landscape goes for miles, and you know this is where people disappear. You see far below is a stream, and all streams go down hill. You keep up the pace until you come to the waters lapping up to the pebbles around. You start moving down the flow of the stream as it gets larger. As you run, you see him- "SAM" you call out. He's sitting on a log looking up, but he doesn't turn around. You run up to him, the striped shirt you gave him is torn up. "Sam?" That's when you know that somehow you've been outmanoeuvred.

A pike was holding the body of Sam up on the log, as if he was a lawn ornament. You best friend who you saved twice in Kuwait sat there, upright, but the life was long gone. You promised his mother you would keep him safe, but now you failed in what was supposed to be a small day hike.

Suddenly you see a flash of metal from the side of your eyes. Your concussion plus the sun makes it so hard to see, but you finally make out the figure who put you two through all this. Suddenly you vomit as you stumble to get away, but you become dizzy and splash into the shallows of the river. You try to get out when suddenly a hand grabs you by the hair and pulls you up.

There he is. Bloodied hands and all. You never thought you would be here. You never thought you would die by his hand. You never thought it would be today. You never thought it would be

    Shia LaBeouf

But at the end of the day we want to minimize the impact of human activity in protected areas. Having switchbacks for stable roads helps avoid unnecessary maintenance that could be even more disruptive. Civil engineering is important!

I mean say what ya want but running with friends is great.

At least you thought it was.

Sam was just next to you a second ago, and then all of a sudden his heavy breathing went silent. You want to call out but the sound of gunfire silences you. You serpentine through the woods to try and avoid the bullets, but one grazes your shoulder. You keep sprinting as you hear the gun reloading. You come to a ravine as the trees get thicker. This is your chance to lose him. You zag along the stream for 50 feet and then run up to the wooded forest. You keep moving, never letting up. He who hesitates is dead.

In the clearing you find a shed- perhaps you can find something to hide under. You open the doors and you step back in horror. Sam was separated into 3 distinct pieces. Your heart drops as you see your friend, your brother in arms from the 22 battalion, lifeless in front of you. You go to leave the shed immediately, but when you go to open the door, it's locked.

    He found you.

You look to the shadows quickly to see where he is, but the shed is empty. You go back to the door but again, it won't budge. As you go to the windows, you begin to smell gasoline seeping in under the floorboards, and then the sound of a match strike.

Within seconds the shed was ablaze. You begin to slam your boddy against the door- it needs to open. It must open. It starts to become hard to breathe, but you can't stop. The flames are beginning to lick your clothes as you feel the burns developing on your body. You keep rushing the door until finally you hear the wood splinter. Your burned body breaks through the door, but you fall immediately to the ground. While the fresh cool air comes as a relief to the lungs, the bark, twigs, leaves and dirt tear through your fragile skin. You yell in pain as you roll over to see the shed collapse from its own weight as the flames consumed the rest of it.

There was no doubt now that Sam was dead.

But that thought quickly broke as you felt the heal of a boot come down on your chest. You look up into the barel of a shotgun, and behind it is who you feared the most. The one your father told you about every night in his ghost stories when you were a child. You thought he was just a myth, but there he was.

    Shia LaBeouf

Also usually when I run with my sister I play music and we have a traveling dance party, it's great!

Honestly, that's the way to do it. Just dress right, but push through. It doesn't matter if it's cloudy, rainy, snowing, hailing- you RUN. You know you can't stop. You have to find a way out. You pull out your phone to turn on the flashlight, but just as you get the flash to turn on, the At&t logo came up and your phone died. But in the flash you could swear you saw a barn in the distance, or at least something metallic. You keep moving towards it until you hear a car pull up. You didn't realize there was a road so close by, but as the headlights scan across the trees, you see what you thought was a Barn.

The cold lifeless eyes of Sam gazed past you as you are forced to see what remained of him. He had bled out from the throat, and it was clear that an animal didn't do this because the cut was clean and the knife used was pinning him into the tree. You shriek as the your friend who you knew since a child lay before you, but immediately find cover when you hear the car door slam shut. The light from the headlights stayed on as blades of light streamed past you into the forest beyond. You could hide in the shadows, but you don't know if they saw you, so you decided to stay put while you hear footsteps stumble through the forest. The leaves are crunching around, but not in any particular direction so you might have a chance. You press yourself closely to the tree when you hear the footsteps stop. Any hope you had of hiding was done and you knew it. It's time. Run.

You bolt out from the tree and run to the car that was still running. You hear an animalistic roar come from the thing that found you. You had a head start, and you are making the most of it. "Push push push" you tell yourself. You were a runner since a child and this is what you prepared for. You sprint to the car to find it's a 1990s Ford pickup truck. There's rust on the hood but the door is open. You get inside and close the door. The keys were left in the ignition so you slam reverse, turn around, and speed down the road.

You are driving as fast as you can as you hear the gravel popping and flying as you go. You look down at the fuel gauge and see that you are almost empty. You panic. Where are you going? You don't know, you just know you are going AWAY. Your heart suddenly lifts as you see a freeway sign ahead. You head for it, when suddenly the rear window smashes open. In your panic you hit the gas more, but the road curved. You swerve to catch the turn but you over steer. You slam on the break but it's too late. You see a tree flash in your headlights just as you smashed into it. Your head hits the steering wheel and you blackout for a moment, coming back dazed and confused, but you feel a hand at your throat. He had played the long game. He set the trap, and you took the bait. He waited for you every step of the way, and even when you pulled off the impossible, he still had you. Through the mashed window, the bloodied hand pulls you back out into the darkness. You finally get a good look. You heard the stories but you never wanted to believe them, but here he was, flesh and blood taking you to your death. Here he was.

    Shia LaBeouf.

So basically you get to choose the kind of day you have, no matter the weather.

This reminds me of how when I was young, my dad would get us an extra order of desert when mom left to use the restroom. It was the best dad move. Ofc I was an anxiety case while trying to eat the ice cream before mom got back, it was that intense anxiety where it felt something was following you. Do you know? No. All you know is that every fiber in your being told you you needed get out of that old warehouse as soon as possible. You keep running, avoiding roots and rocks. You keep second guessing yourself. Where we alone? You look to see if Sam followed you but he's nowhere to be seen. You swear you two looked at eachother with the same chill just moments ago. You call out to him, but you hear nothing. You slow down and turn around but the sun has already set and the trees shroud any sense of direction. You call out again, but regret it instantly.

The weight of something big is coming.

You pick a direction and go in an all out sprint. You don't know where you are going but know whatever has been tracking you is behind you. You are now shrieking call for Sam but he is long gone. The ground below you shifts as you come to a steep decline. You stumble but catch yourself, only to find the moss on the ground won't hold you. You slip and roll into a ravine, and as you fall your ankle hits a rock. You don't know if it's broken but at this point you know that whatever is behind you is worse than the pain of each step. You are limping but moving, but now you are losing ground. The bushes burst open behind you and in the shock you fall back down, firmly breaking the leg you tried so hard to ignore. You turn over while you writhe in pain to see what remained of Sam being held by what couldn't be a man but couldn't be a beast. He comes forward smelling the air furiously. You didn't want to believe it, but Sam was taken and soon you will be too. In your final moments, a face finally comes 2 inches from yours.

You didn't want to believe things could go south so fast. You didn't want to believe Sam was dead. You didn't want to believe you never would sleep in your bed or eat rainbow Sherbet again. You didn't want to believe your eyes when you saw him-

    Shia LaBeouf.

Anyway when mom came back dad would always take the heat for us, but he's a funny guy and mom couldn't stay mad for long.

    Musicians curse.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist and I now have 3 guitars, a bass, a banjo, two ukuleles, a sousaphone, trombone, trumpet, soprano trombone, bugle, clarinet, tenor sax, Roland keyboard, melodica, cajone, stylophone, otamatone, ocarina, concertina, and a recorder. My goal is 50 instruments by the time I'm 50.

    I have a problem.

Kurzgesagt did a video on exercise! It's a good watch, and it shows that while exercise is not a cure for all that ail's ya, it does increase your overall quality of life.

Of course don't overdo it- during lockdown I began to run a 5k a day during my lunch break. I set Sunday as a recovery day, but still I was 25 and had the last bits of my "made out of rubber and magic" era, so ya know, I'd stretch for 60 seconds and call it good.

I'm still very active, and I switch between running and climbing, but only after being sidelined for 2 weeks to take care of my IT band. I now have to stretch for a good 15-30 minutes before and after. My recovery day now is a good yoga stretching session.

Thank God I am self employed so I have time in the day for it, but still, exercise is awesome but you need to be careful and do it right. You only get one body, so take care of it. It's the best instrument you will ever own.

Anyway, time to hit the wall with my buddy and then grab an IPA. 🍻

I worked at a preppy catholic school in Chicago. Every year they had a Gala with an auction where people would throw around $60k like it was nothing. Afterwards all the parents of students I taught were plastered and grinding on each other on the dancefloor, and then I was invited to a sex party in the hotel they stayed at. Being 20 years younger than these folks, I was really weirded out.

    Catholics go hard.

Spirit Airlines just gave me the best flight experience of my life

I was supposed to go to Vegas today for my friends bachelor party. I hate Vegas. It's going to be 90° AT NIGHT and hit 116°. I hate the smell of cigarettes. I hate the constant ringing of slot machines. I hate strip clubs. I hate the "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" because that is no basis for an ethos. Spirit cancelled my flight for no reason, rescheduled it for tomorrow, and gave me $24 in food vouchers. Fuck if I know why. *Spirit Airlines: Task Failed Successfully*

What's your plan if Trump wins in November?

I'm feeling so uneasy with everything I've been seeing. I keep thinking about what we will be this time next year, and if shit hits the fan, what is your plan? I'm queer and was politically active in 2020, so I would potentially be considered a political enemy. The only blueprint I can think of is what you do in an active shooter situation; Flee, Hide, Fight. I know there's that romantic notion of "don't be a coward, get out and protest", but I remember the brutality of the 2020 protests firsthand, and even then I thought "thank god I'm going toe to toe with the CPD and not the CCP". Next time is going to be different. The president now has authority to send drone strikes. Protests and riots don't stand a chance agains missiles and live rounds. Flee- I have an Uncle in Montreal who my family could potentially use as a way to at least temporarily escape the chaos. The hope I'd have is that Canada and other countries would accept American refugees, however that's not a guarantee. Hide- If borders are closed, lay low and move away from major cities if possible. If civil war breaks out, try to get away from the violence even if you think your side will win. Todays losers may be tomorrows victors. Fight- If cellular data/ social media algorithms can keep track of you, and surveillance can make sure there's no movement, this would be the last resort of desperation. I guess if possible try to either find a group for safety in numbers, or conversely go guerrilla as groups of resistance would make easy targets. Sorry my mind is running and I'm getting scared.

    [OC] In the Morning

I had a breakup so I wrote a sad song. It's a bit jazzy. I hope lyrics count as poetry. In the morning The one I wish I never knew In the morning The last one I'll wake with you . When the words that come out Are whispers of a shout From a heart that pleads it not to be true . In the morning The last morning I have you . In the morning After confessions in the night In the morning I never held you so tight . The dreams that we had That could never come to pass A bird who broke it's wings Before it hit the glass . In the morning The last morning I had you . _instrumental_ . I made sure to smell Your hair before farewell I don't know if you noticed I don't know if you could tell . In the morning The last morning I had you

Do you all remember Barbara and her legendary rhubarb bar? https://i.imgur.com/ClmCzAT.jpeg

For context: https://youtu.be/I1o4dyFhvTM?si=sem9nfzKQhOtcRi9 English Translation: Do you all remember Barbara And her legendary rhubarb bar? Yes, in Barbara's rhubarb bar The rhubarb was never scarce back then Because in Barbara's rhubarb bar, as you know There was a rhubarb cake that you don't easily forget It had been very popular for years among three barbarians Because barbarians know what rhubarb is Barbarians know what rhubarb is K-, k-, know what rhubarb is Th-, th-, then there was also the barbarian beard barber The barbarians were almost here every evening with him And always drank with him after work Rhubarb-Barbara-Bar-Barbarian-Beard-Barber-Beer And since the beard barber was really here every evening Barbara needed an additional bartender for the rhubarb bar beer bar Soon So she doesn't work alone behind the bar And so the next day Bärbel suddenly stood behind the bar She was smart, charming, and very well-read It didn't take long for everyone in the rhubarb bar to be captivated As soon as they saw this beautiful being standing behind the bar The beard barber called out: Bärbel You are the woman for whom I would sell all my belongings I wish you were my rhubarb-barbara-bar- Barbarian-beard-barber-beer-bar-Bärbel The three barbarians were also heavily courting They would die for a smile from Bärbel But all their courting was ignored by Bärbel Because Bärbel was mainly interested in Barbara And there was clear sympathy on both sides Apparently, besides Bärbel, Barbara was also bi A rainbow appeared in the brightest colors When Barbara and Bärbel said 'I do' The party then took place in the rhubarb bar (Of course!) And was one of a kind The beard barber was there, the barbarians were there And of course, there was plenty of rhubarb cake The three barbarians served alongside A rhubarb-barbara-barbarian-barbecue And later for the dance, the not at all dull Baden-Baden rhubarb bar ballad bards played So they both said yes to each other Rhubarb-Barbara and her Bärbel - hooray! And soon Master Stork swiftly arrived And brought a child to the rhubarb bar Apart from Bärbel and Barbara Of course, the beard barber and the barbarians were there for the baby They were all like a huge family And they named the child Emily (Lovely!) Will it later take over the barbershop Or stand behind the bar at Barbara's? Maybe! After all, it was the rhubarb-barbara-bar-barbarian-beard-barber-beer-bar-baby

Is there a point where therapy holds you back?

I've been in therapy for 10 years, and with my current therapist for 4 of them. I love him and he's great, and don't get me wrong therapy is a life saver, but I recently hung out with a childhood friend and we talked about some deep things. My therapist is a pro and doesn't offer advice other than helping perspective shifts, but my friend made some observations and suggestions that hit home. He just straight up said "huh, it sounds like you should call your mom more" and "you know, I see what you do and I don't think the weed has been stopping your productivity, but if it's in the way of happiness you need to do what you need to do" (my big thing with weed was I would kick myself for not getting shit done while high). I realized I haven't really opened up much to friends and partners, primarily because I'd say "I'll just hold this for therapy". Way long ago I dated someone who was very "I'm not your therapist, please leave that for Tuesday", and I kinda kept that. It's easy for me to talk to someone who doesn't know anyone in my life and I trust will be neutral, but at the same time I have had trouble communicating with people in my outside life. I dunno, just was a thought.

How do you deal with the situation where you are invited to play a game, only to find it's wildly complex and takes 4 hours to finish, and you find yourself not wanting to play it within minute 5?

This has happened to me a few times. One I remember was the game Alchemist, where I just sat there confused as hell for 4 and a half hours while three guys were all talking about strategies. Tonight it was Terraforming Mars, where I was told it would be a 3 hour game, but by hour 4 we were halfway done. This time I said "it's 11pm, I have work in the morning, this will be my last hand" and the host got very passive aggressive with me. I just don't know what to do in these situations. ^Also is there a word for this? My girlfriend said I was "held game hostage" but I don't see that used in my searches.^ Update: I sent an apology for leaving early, and he wasn't too frustrated about it and understood my frustration which was nice. I told him I didn't think it was my cup of tea since it was so dense, but he kept trying to sell me on the game. I just gotta learn how to decline with this guy, he is a bit of a "won't take no for an answer" person, but I'm still learning to be firm with boundaries. I'm really a 45 minute or less person, and prefer games with like... 5 rules. I have communicated that before, but he really wants me to play the games he loves which I take as a compliment. He did have me playing Dominion for a while, and that was a time when I just would suck it up and play for his sake since he was going through a divorce. We literally had the parks and rec sketch where I said "I don't really like Dominion" and he said "what do you mean? You've played all the games!" He housed me when I was homeless, so it's hard for me to decline things with him since he showed me that huge kindness.

Were younger siblings more likely to leave Europe for the Americas?

I remember way back someone talking about how most European explorers to the new world were younger siblings, as back in Europe older siblings were more likely to inherit land/ family business/ be more successful in general, leading to younger siblings leaving to try and find success abroad. Is there any truth to this theory?
