I have read that that is an issue. My own Pinetab 2 has a moral puncture and does not suspend at all. I probably fiddled too much with the config.
On the forum someone suggested to unload the driver first.
Happy to report that the Wifi on the Pinetab 2 now works. Still early days but I am using it for a few hours now and it works. Details in the forum https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=18575&pid=121457#pid121457

Not a perfect fit but Firefox can annotate PDFs out of the box. Maybe in some cases that is helpful ?

The Pinetime 2 just came out and the Pinetime V is going to be shipped soon. I guess they are just busy. That said, a shorter version of the the newsletter should be possible every now and then ?

Yes, you can switch between accounts. In Profile->Settings->Accounts->Change Accounts Settings ->Add
After you have added a second account you can then switch between them with a select list at the top of the main Feed screen.

This looks incredibly polished, given that it is a quite new development. I did not even know that you could use a Windows Laptop as a display/keyboard 😀

I have downloaded it just now and the first impression is great. Really good app. Currently there is no iPad version. Maybe that’s possible in the future?

It sounds good, but if you discuss a question and come to a conclusion you would then have to organise that someone documents the result elsewhere, otherwise the hard earned insight, probably with contributions of several experts is lost.

I always feel to connect some cables and make a light go blink blink very satisfying. There are cheap sets with all sorts of cables and lights/sensors.
Then choose your language of choice and make it blink/summm/ measure the temperature/air pollution or so
Once you have it choose another language and repeat 😀
(BTW, I use a Raspberry Pi 3 as a Nextcloud server, works fine, this might depend on your expectations)

Ada is really good at making this kind of bit hacking very transparent. It might be interesting to create a Ada version of the examples in the Article to illustrate this. Even the Rust solution looks really messy compared to how Ada approaches this.

It’s a very new cross platform development based on SDL2 for graphics and using Lua. It’s quite minimalistic but still has the neccessary editor functions, plus you can write plugins in Lua if something is really missing for you.

I think you look at it from two quite extreme angles. A ‘very good’ normal bike (no e) for 600€ would be seriously cheap. It might depend on where you by exactly, online vs bike shop and so on but for very good I would have guessed more around 1000€. It probably depends also what type of bike you prefer . Seems you are not keen on a city bike.
On he other side an ebike for 3000€ is definitely in the higher price range. You get something decent for ~2000€ as well. This would reduce the price difference.
The classic example for an ebike is that the breaks have to be set up for the higher demand, so you should ensure that you have that on your normal conversion bike.
There is also a difference in handling if you have a front/read engine or a middle engine.
Other than that I would think you can convert a bike as well. Not everyone can do it or wants to spend the time.

I am using both, LibreOffice and MS Office for work. Mostly to experience how it works. On my work laptop I only have LibreOffice 7.0 (the company provides the software and should update it) so not the latest.
In the end I use Calc over Excel, not because Excel is bad per se, but because for my use case it does not make a difference and LibreOffice feels more fresh. I also use PowerPoint over Impress, as there were several things in Impress that did not work so well (making a table smaller, show lines to align form to other elements, ..).

You (as aggressor) scan all your known mobile numbers agains let’s say Signal and discover that some numbers use Signal. That I understand. But now what? Unless you are the company Signal you would not have access to further data, or ?

I have a Nextcloud for my own, works mostly well, but it requires some effort here and there and I oft wondered what my dear users would say (if there were any) if it takes me several days again to fix some small issues or renew the certificate. Plus I know nothing about security and can only hope everything is all right. Once you set email, messenger etc. up for larger groups I could see the efforts to keep this stable and secure to be quite high. It’s probably a good solution for the privacy problem but I am not so sure that it is a solution that is manageable or even available for many and therefore a good solution overall.

When it comes to states spying you then there is no safety. The state can always just send someone over to put a gun on your head (or the legal equivalent) and voila, you yourself give them your data.
And I understand that states are very different in their (perceived) legal integrity, but if I should guess ( no evidence) then all the encryption and safety development benefit criminals most. Also some journalists and dissidents but mostly criminals to do their criminal business and in the whole, if you have the fortune to live in a state that can be mostly trusted I prefer that Police has some lever identity this kind communication. Not in-similar to when Police is allowed to tap your phone (after a judge signed off). Not many people where concerned about that.
So so in the end I feel the bigger threat are private companies who sell all your data for the highest bidder regards of the bidders intention. And provided you trust Signal, ProtonMail and Tutanota then they definitely reduce the risk there (imho).

I think an important difference is that we are comparing companies that definitely sell your metadata to companies that could sell your meta data but where there is no known case (to me) that they actually do, e.g Signal. So it comes down to trust.

I just noticed that this video is also available on Odysee.
https://odysee.com/@RobBraxmanTech:6/signal-unsafe:7
I don’t know this platform, but can’t be as bad as YouTube, no ?
marcuse1w 3 years ago • 100%
Hmm, the style of the video is maybe a bit pushy and I am not sure if it is useful to make a case with the Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram connection and then turn around and say because this lot is bad all other alternatives like Signal etc. are equally bad, but I have to admit that it makes you think.
I have read several times that meta data leaking can be as bad as access to the actual message and I think he explains well why that might be.
I am less clear what to do about this. It is unlikely to set up a network of people and only communications with them in this network and at the same time to ensure that no one in this network communicates with anyone else. So they communicate with you, but only you ?
My view is that I am less concerned about state access to my (meta) data. They have a lot anyway, with certificates, passport, medical record etc… My concern is that this data is used and misused for a small fee by private companies and here it seems to comes down to trust. Do I really think that Signal or Tutanota sell my data in the same way as Facebook does ? Other than that I don’t see how people who want to be able to communicate in the digital world with other less tech savvy people can do so.
Are there projects out there who next to encryption focus on minimising or avoiding meta data?

Some free and open Jitsi instances are actually marked red. The reason is that the contractual situation is not clear enough to ensure data protection. This does not mean that the provider cannot be trusted, it’s just as there is no strong relationship with the provider, it’s free after all, that a institution would have to rely on the T&C rather than having assurances from the provider in contractual form which can be enforced in court. Actually an interesting thought, although mostly relevant for organisations public or private who are obliged to adhere to privacy laws.
The data protection officer of the federal state Berlin has issued an updated report in German which Video Conference supplier are recommended to be used from a legal perspective. The report uses a traffic light system 🚦so it should be possible to get an initial view for non German speaker as well. Many of the concerns are actually not technical but more contractual that would prevent the legal use in Germany.

Does anyone have an idea why the US has a different title ? The book is set in London and the rivers of London play a role. The UK title seems all right. Is there some cultural background between US and UK that could explain this ? Does it happen more often that nooks have different names in the US and UK?

I have only played around a tiny bit with the GCC Modula 2 compiler but in general there are several versions based on different editions of Wirths book Programming in Modula 2 (PIM)
I think gcc m2 supports several versions of PIM but you have to tell it which one you use, so which book version you use, basically.
Also there are many Modula 2 examples in the Rosetta code project for common algorithm, if you want to try that. http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Category:Modula-2

Genode OS is adding Pine Allwinner A64 with the intention to eventually support the PinePhone by end of 2021. A detailed blog describes the journey.
Highlights: - The BeamAsm JIT-compiler has been added to Erlang/OTP and will give a significant performance boost for many applications. - The JIT-compiler is enabled by default on most x86 64-bit platforms
Based on the CM/P Turbo Modula 2 this implements a re-engineered version to run in a 64K virtual machine on any platform. Small enough to fit on almost every micro-controller like AVR.

To use Ada (or any other programming language for that matter) on a new embedded device you often need quite a lot of technical bit fiddling. This article shows how to get a simple Ada programme quickly ready for most ARM Cortex-4 devices, even new once.
