blendOS v4 has been released.
Arch Linux, made immutable, declarative and atomic: We're thrilled to announce the stable release of blendOS v4! You can now define your system through a single YAML file ('/system.yaml') with full support for packages from the Arch Linux repos and AUR, while continuing to be able to use Ubuntu/Fedora/Debian/.../Android containers to run software not available on Arch Linux. Custom desktop environments, kernels and other system packages are all supported with v4, through simple modifications to `/system.yaml`! Download: https://blendos.co/download/ Release notes: https://blendos.co/blog/2024/06/05/blendos-v4-released-arch-linux-made-immutable-declarative-and-atomic/ ![](https://lemy.lol/pictrs/image/53d74423-2f90-4f8b-8c1f-ea6c633f3541.png)
The first v4 testing ISO is now out! Quoting Rudra on [Discord](https://discord.com/channels/1068192254365282405/1068523572844318780/1216272253625565235): Aside from it being declarative and atomic, it now has a dedicated first-setup app that allows you to create users following the installation of the system, unlike previous iterations where it was a part of the system installer. It ships with GNOME 45 out-of-the-box, but just like with the alpha, you can change the desktop environment in the `/system.yaml` file and update your system from the 'System' app. The default GNOME dash is a lot less cluttered now (new `default-gnome` track). You can also include any custom packages or even build your own system with your own packages, giving you a nearly vanilla Arch Linux installation but immutable and atomic! We've now implemented three-way `/etc` merges (similar to ostree), therefore making `/etc` mutable and allowing you to edit package configuration. Similarly, `/usr/local` too is now mutable so that you can install any themes or custom-built applications system-wide. This is still a **beta** release, so not everything is finished. There are no `system` or `user` tools anymore, and the default DE is GNOME (this can be changed post-install). You now have to use `system.yaml`, so follow my post-install guides here: [https://asterisk.lol/blog/blend_v4/#post-install](https://asterisk.lol/blog/blend_v4/#post-install) (soon to be on the new docs) If you'd like to download it, you can get the ISO from the following mirrors: [Google Drive](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Paf7mR2t_hw-eC5a3li4Umm02HV40TOf/view) [Sahilister's Mirror](https://mirrors.sahilister.in/blendos/testing/blendos-20240310-x8664.iso) [Qiwi](https://qiwi.lol/b8Mn0216-blendOS-2024.iso) You can also get torrents for it from our FossTorrents page: [https://fosstorrents.com/distributions/blendos/#downloads](https://fosstorrents.com/distributions/blendos/#downloads) Also, another reminder is that this is still a **testing release**. Things are **unfinished**!

I looked at the kbin git repo, and apparently, it's not a week, but a month.

Edit: Misunderstood your post. I thought you meant activity on their git repo.

I was using the "sparkle✨️" UI. It was way better than the current UI. It had moved the server sidebar to the bottom of the screen, like a dock. I miss it. I am no longer able to use Discord one-handed. The UI update removed it from the app.

I purchased a 128 GB flash drive for around 12-15$ (I forgot the exact price) last year, and on Amazon, there are 10 TB hard drives for $100. So, the actual storage doesn't seem to be an issue.
RAM is expensive 128 GB of RAM on Amazon is $500.
But then again, I am talking about the consumer grade stuff. It might be different for the people who are making AI's as they might be using the industrial/whatever it's called grade stuff.

Pretty Much. I own this Sublemmy, The Matrix Room, and the IRC room. And I have Admin perms on the Discord, and Telegam that is listed on the website. There arent "official" roles yet in the blendOS team, but I am essentially the Community Manager.
As for v4, I am unsure as to when that will release. I'll ask the Devs and I'll get back to you.

3 TB. The 1TB nvme ssd my HP Omen 17-ck1000 came with, not sure which brand/model it is. And the 2tb Samsung 990 pro nvme ssd I put in it. Considering the fact most AAA games are now ~100+ GB each, I can only have like 30 games installed at a time, assuming I delete the OS and all of my files. And I use my laptop for more than gaming, so I can probably only have like 14 games max. Thankfully most games have some sort of cloud saves, so I can uninstall the games that I haven't played in a while do make room. And I also dont acually play AAA games that much. For example the recent game I have been playing, Disfigure, is only is less than a GB.

Totally true lmao. Its how I got my cat Chevy. He was found as a kitten by my Uncle on the tire of my Grandfathers Chevy. Years later the same Uncle found another kitten on the axle of his car, he named it Axle. He also named Chevy. He is definitely creative with naming cats.

That looks great. I'll try making a rough draft of a digital version tomorrow.
Edit: Might be Aug 17th instead of today Aug 16th, as I am doing some stuff, as I was quite busy today with registering blendOS as a project on the libera.chat IRC and some personal things like getting a job, and I have a doctor appointment later today. Sorry that this update is a bit offtopic from the sublemmy this comment is on.
Edit 2: Edited Edit 1 a bit to provide more clarity.

Laughs in Firefox. (Specifically FireDragon)
Edit: Since there was some confusion in the comments about what FireDragon is, I will explain it here. FireDragon is the default browser on Garuda Linux. FireDragon is a fork of Librewolf, which is in-turn a fork of Firefox. Librewolf's main goal is to provide the most privacy possible to its user, though it might be at the cost of some sites breaking. FireDragon is a fork of Librewolf, it reduces some of the privacy settings that Librewolf uses, in order for sites to not break, but while still retaining most of the privacy features. dr460nf1r3 the developer of FireDragon said "This fork ships saner defaults to also include regular (not paranoid 😋) users of Garuda Linux in its audience" [1] Paragraph 2, Line 6
FireDragon from my perspective is focused around Garuda Linux, so a lot of its features are designed for users of Garuda Linux in mind.
More information about FireDragon can be found here: https://forum.garudalinux.org/t/firedragon-librewolf-fork/5018, here: https://github.com/dr460nf1r3/firedragon-browser, and here: https://dr460nf1r3.org/projects/firedragon/

Why non-systemd distros? I have heard of not-systemd distros like Artix and Devaun (I think that's how you spell them), but I never bothered looking into why some people prefer them.

Unlike iOS pretty much every part of the Android OS is replaceable. There is technically no "unified" version of Android, each Android phone manufacturer has their own unique spin on it, and since its open source, or at least most of it is, anyone can make their own version. For example: Lineage OS, /e/OS, and Graphene OS.

Other Fediverse instances like Firefish has polls, and I think Mastodon and some others also have them. So it should be possible for Lemmy to have them.
Also, Strawpoll has options to prevent voter fraud, I chose the "One vote per IP-Address allowed." option.
