@bjoern_tantau I'll keep that name in mind for the next account I create. In the meantime, which would be better?

Sorry for the delay. Suffered another job loss a few months ago and had to work my second job like crazy. A couple accounts are in collections. I flew to see family in Japan, got another job and am looking at ways to boost my income and get ahead. No one's going to do it for you.

Neurodivergent individuals are a thing. We do have different mechanisms of function for our respective brains.
That having been said, it is our cross to bear and the world isn't necessarily making accommodations for us.

Fear porn generates clicks and sells ad space.

With all due respect, there's more in the direction you mention, but there's more in the direction of opposing views, as well. This was the entire point of moving to the Fediverse: to get away from the restrictions and whims of u/spez and Big Tech.
Keep looking around and talking to other people. This is a better place than Reddit: you just haven't stumbled upon all of the evidence yet. ;)

There's nothing wrong with controlling / filtering the things you allow into your news feed.
Yes, there is a need to stay informed, but TBH the only immediate things one really needs are:
- a weather radio [Canada] [US] to alert of impending doom from volcanic eruption, inclement weather, earthquake or civil unrest
- local weather forecast
- local traffic & news
All of which can be accomplished without a Twitter, Reddit or Fediverse news feed.
You can't function if you're in a bad headspace. If you need to restrict your news intake, not only is that OK, but it is at times required and healthy.

Providing context doesn't magically make something morally correct. It illustrates the circumstances.
There are all kinds of circumstances under which people commit grave wrongs in the face of adversity. If we're going to punish everyone for every wrong committed regardless of surrounding circumstances, there's far more punishment to dispense, regardless of political stripes.

I believe slavery is an inexcusable, horrible stain on our nation's fabric, but it was the economic engine of the day down South. Not saying that doesn't make it reprehensible: I am merely giving context. Dismantling it at the speed Washington demanded would have ground things to a halt. That's a big reason the South fought. Another issue was gun control.
No, I have never affiliated with any white supremacist or southern heritage group.

We neocons, along with the DNC, lost our minds in the wake of 9/11. We've since reevaluated the implications of much of what we greenlit back then. Sadly, at this point it's too little, too late.

A couple weeks ago my pastor made a rather profound statement that I have difficulty following when getting into heated policy debates: Jesus only spent time with two types of people: * those to whom He ministered * those who ministered to Him
