Edit: but I think people are taking the wrong conclusion from this. I interpret these endorsements to be less policy related and more "Holy fuck the other guy is literally unhinged and will turn the US into a smoking ruin, vote for stability please god" related. I spend $12 on a movie ticket. I watch for 2 hours. $6/hr entertainment, maybe a little less if I think about the movie after I leave, maybe a lot more if i also buy a popcorn.
I spend $30 on a game for sale on steam. I play it for 100 hours over the course of 4-5 weeks. $0.30/hr entertainment.
Just the value math alone checks out, regardless of the fact that the video game is a more interactive and interesting experience compared to the vomit that Hollywood spits out these days.

Modern "libertarianism" has been fully corrupted by both corporations (to mean "liberty from any and all government regulations") and by the racist shithole fascists (to mean "my liberty to commit hate crimes and no liberty for everyone else"). It sucks because I mostly agree with the tagline, but people like Friedman are far too altruistic about how well corporations (and other individuals) can operate without some level of government oversight to keep them actually accountable to the individuals that libertarianism is supposed to uphold.

I'd you post a wiki to their site thry effectively own it, and if you try to close it they will simply steal control of it and refuse to delete it under any circumstances to continue serving ad revenue. Which is what happened to fucking Mojang with the Minecraft wiki.

Alaska does it (assuming they won't repeal it in nov). Oregon is going to try and do it, if it hopefully passes. If we get two states proving it works and isn't a problem, that momentum can snowball.
Please help support the RCV effort in Oregon if you can. https://www.oregonrcv.org/

I haven't kept close track for a year so I think it's gone up again but my shared bill in Oregon typically was around $250 at I think ~14-15c/kwh. A majority of our power comes from the BPA hydro dams on the Columbia so the cost hasn't quite skyrocketed like other areas, but Pacificorp is still trying to raise rates 20% a year.
(We are rural and also use electricity for pumping water from a domestic well, and irrigate a fairly large lawn as a wildfire break, so that is also our water bill.)
PG&E is just criminal.

It might make more CO2 on average, considering the higher energy requirements to transport and store LNG, and direct leaks/flaring of CH4 is a hot greenhouse gas. But burning natural gas also doesn't dump out gigatons of toxic coal ash that completely destroys any water table in the vicinity, empty sulfur and heavy metals and radioactivity into the atmosphere, cause acid rain...
No fossil fuel is perfect but natural gas burns so goddamn clean, its a lot fucking better than a 1700's level coal fuel source

Stratasys is losing ground because their massively overpriced ecosystem is getting outclassed by literally everything else in the market. So why improve if you can just sue your competition out of the US market?
I've been doing functional ABS and ASA lately and had a couple very annoying warpage spots. One was a total failure. (We won't talk about the other 3 failures that were wet out-of-the-box Bambu ASA...) The X1C is definitely nice, but the all aluminum-and-glass side panelling has a sometimes-unwanted side effect: thermal conduction. The aluminum sides are so conductive that they do not allow the chamber temp to go above 40C, even after a couple hours of heat soaking the build plate at 100C before starting an ABS print. Enter: One random bath towel. doesn't look like much but just covering the three sides with a thin layer means it's good enough insulation to get the chamber up to 50C now! And the ABS parts look better than ever- every C counts.
Potentially big changes are coming to ODOT's funding model in the next few years. There are holes that the state can't patch.
Sorely needed. 100% chance that they'll still need to toll traffic to cover the remaining few billion in costs but it is a good step forward.
Context: when creating drawings from parts/assemblies, you can use a foreshortening break on any derived views (section, detail, projected). However, by default, inventor will propagate that break to the parent base view... which usually completely blows up a different sheet in the document that I don't even realize -_- Not once have I EVER wanted to propagate a break in a derived view to the parent base view...

I'm in the market for a new monitor. My 32" LCD is nice but now I have some spending money and really want to move up to an OLED display, as they seem to be maturing nicely and can give me an amazing bump in refresh rate. Many OLED displays are curved, of course. All ultrawides are, some severely so (800r!!!) I've always shied away from curved monitors because I feel like it could distort the appearance of some solid/2d geometry vs a flat panel. (I'm also not crazy about the desk space they occupy either, but I can work around that). Do any of you use CAD packages (solidworks, inventor, autocad) on curved monitors, and if so how well does it appear? My target would be a 34" or 42" 4k display.
It was nice knowing Raspberry Pi while they lasted. Going to suck losing something that has changed the homegrown embedded system hobby forever.

Firefox latest on Android 14, web front-end Images seem to work fine now after the 19.4 upgrade. Except when posting images via direct upload. I've tried to post an image with body description a couple times now to another community and as soon as I hit submit, it just instantly removes the image and doesn't post anything, leaving me on the create post page. Edit: Pretty sure this is a front end bug as I had to hit submit twice to make this post. When you hit submit it jumps to the top of the page first.

Legend: Candidate Name (party, %of vote) Vote tallies current as of 12:30am PST, May 22nd 2024 (Due to lower voter turnout in primaries, most ballots are already counted by this time and these totals are unlikely to change significantly by the election certification date.) Please see title link to the official Secretary of State page for complete and accurate election results. **Statewide Positions** Secretary of State: Tobias Read (D, 71%) will run against disgraced state senator (who is barred from running for senate) Dennis Linthicum (R, 65%) State Treasurer: Elizabeth Steiner (D, 78%) will run against another disgraced state senator who is barred from running, Brian Boquist (R, uncontested) Attorney General: Dan Rayfield (D, 76%) will run against Will Lathrop (R, 64%) **Other Notable Contested Races:** US Representative, 3rd Dist: Current State Rep Maxine Dexter (D, 50.7%) beats out former Multnomah county commissioner Susheela Jayapal (D, 28.5%) State Representative, 12th Dist: Darin Harbick (R, 82%) beats out current representative Charlie Conrad (R, 18%) for the republican nomination. No other candidates filed for any other party, so Harbick is the de-facto winner of the position. Conrad faced this primary challenge by Harbick due to his Yes vote on HB2002 that created legal protections for abortion rights and transgender care. Conrad was publicly censured and disowned by the state Republican Party due to his vote not toeing the party line. [Read more here.](https://oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2024/04/26/republican-oregon-rep-charlie-conrad-faces-primary-over-abortion-vote/) **Personally Irksome:** State Senate District 28: Diane Linthicum (R, 59%), the wife and co-conspirator of disgraced senator Dennis Linthicum, beats out current Klamath County Commissioner Dave Henslee (R, 41%) for the republican nomination. No other candidates filed for any other party, so Linthicum is the de-facto winner of the position. Mrs. Linthicum has no real world qualifications to be Senator beyond being the husband of the current disgraced Senator, and has all but openly said she is only running to be the mouth of her husband as to bypass the election restrictions.
As I'm graduating college in a few weeks, I'll be losing access to my university's free printers and filament. I'm going to build up a home lab with a couple printers where I can make goofy little mechanical projects as well as some components for my cars and stuff. Who's your go-to for PLA and ABS/ASA filaments? Those will be my primary print jobs in any serious volume. I know our college's club has had hella problems with random chinese brand filaments not printing consistently but I also don't want to spend $30+ per kg for something like Prusament.
Conrad has secured a huge amount of aid for his district (HD12). But he also supported HB2002 (the abortion/gender care access bill) and the state party ditzes are mad about it. Looking into his stances and voting history he seems super level headed. Since the district is likely to go Republican regardless, he should be supported over the other party-line man.
If that's not the textbook image of rats leaving a sinking ship, I don't know what is. "Fuck you. Got mine!" I've been having a bit of trouble loading the lemmy site today. It times out and takes ages to load quite often. I tested with other websites (Wikipedia, a school website, google) and while my mobile data is... not *fast*, it is not as slow as db0 is running. I started thinking about it and I feel like loading performance has been slower than usual for a few days even... Can anyone else confirm degraded performance today or am I trippin'?
