You're right, it's way worse. And it's disturbing that we're culturally encouraged to find fun in violence but sex needs to be cordoned off to a containment genre and excised from mainstream art. Movies have been all but stripped of sexuality other than clumsy attempts at pandering to lgbt people. I think some of it is an overcorrection from Weinstein and Me-Too, some of it is just America's puritan cultural hangups that have always been there, and some of it is the effect of Gen-Z growing up with an abundance of porn and now they can't associate sex/nudity on a screen as art (or even just fun).

Apparently I'm the only one that likes being titillated by movies. I don't get the "it adds nothing to the plot" complaint. Tons of movies have action scenes and gratuitous violence that add nothing to the plot, yet i don't see complaints about that. 90% of John Wick is gratuitous violence that added nothing to the plot, but I still love it.

As far as I know Matrix is the best FOSS alternative to Discord right now. Maybe try using the coturn addon for voice instead of Jitsi. I've been able to share audio snippets just fine this way.

In my experience moving to Graphene OS on its own was easy. The UI was refreshingly simple with no bloat at all, and I got used to it quickly.

Entirely ditching Google services is a different matter that I found much more difficult. I ended up installing Google Play Store/Services since some of my apps relied on it to work properly (usually because they rely on Google's Notification service). Depending on what apps you use this might be easier or harder. There are good open-source alternatives for many things in F-Droid, and its possible to get everything else via the Aurora Store without using your Google credentials. You could also set up a separate profile for apps that require Google services so they're in their own sandbox.

In the end I did none of that, and just logged into the Play Store with my Google credentials on my main profile. Everything just worked with little effort, and if I'm ever feeling particularly paranoid at least I have the option to revoke permissions and/or uninstall, Google services.

TLDR: Moving to GrapheneOS = Easy. Going full FOSS with no Google = hard (at least for me).

I want to avoid an echo-chamber and have access to everything on the fediverse, including stuff I find distateful. If anything really bothers me I will block the community/instance myself, I don't want others making that choice for me.

I'm using Matrix with Coturn integration for voice. Works great. There's an addon for video too but I don't use that so never added it.
