It seems that Trace is discontinued for now, at least on Firefox.
Also, isn't the use of many extensions actually harmful to you, as in fingerprinting? they're Interesting extensions nonetheless

I' can't use it on my phone, I think because of this: "The app will work properly on devices without any Google service installed."
Hi, I'm very curious about the potentially greenest search engines there are. We all know Ecosia is a great solution, but there are also others which are carbon neutral (Google of course, but also Metager, for example). If I had to choose the best in this context, and also other honorable mentions, which are they?

Thank you for the article (you got some heat over at c/privacy hehe).
So, from what I understood, even though Session is a fork of Signal, it still shouldn't be too trusted. Would you agree?

Thanks for your suggestions, but... None of your suggestions is quite what I'm searching for: in Google Images, when you click on one, below appear others which are similar to the first one. If you can try it you'll see.
I know there are, but they aren't open source, except for [Search by Image](https://github.com/dessant/search-by-image) (just speculation, haven't researched far enough). The main functionality I seek is that of having similar images displayed while looking at the one selected

Ok nice research, although it seems to be as complicated as I thought... I'll still follow the guide, thanks!

Very interesting, thanks for the suggestion! I hope it isn't too hard to setup, I'm not tech savvy

Maybe "privacy" doesn't fit the question, yeah I agree. Regarding security then, I see that almost any device comes with encryption by default, so I shouldn't worry too much.
Torquatus 3 years ago • 100%
Yeah it seems so, although I'm not convinced of the latest one with fingerprint recognition
What is the best external hard drive in terms of privacy, security and storage capacity? Should I wait for a better one coming soon? I'm looking for minimum 2tb of space (the more the merrier), don't mind the cost

Very interesting! If someone can make a followup of this whenever it's available, that would be great
Tell me what do you think about this one

You could also use the Privacy Redirect extension, which amongst other things can redirect your search engine to more private ones. In particular it has various instances of Searx, and rotates randomly among them

Used this for several months now, It's super helpful! Especially from Youtube to Freetube, and from Reddit to Libredd.it. I recommend it

Since I'm new on the fact-checker pages, I still have to understand how to utilize them, so as @TheAnonymouseJoker said mentioning them excessively doesn't bring a critical discussion on a topic, and I did that on some comments. Thanks for bringing this up! Also, I second your comment.

I've seen an interesting argument recently (don't remember where, sorry), in which the guy says, in his opinion, that the problem with news subbreddits on Reddit (which can be applied also to c/worldnews), is that news posting is directly accompanied with comments, and by doing so you have opinions from readers that didn't have time to process the information described in the article, which can lead to fights. He thinks that news posting and comments shouldn't be together, instead be separated.
A solution could be separating c/worldnews with a new community which discusses those news: the post is doubled, with the original one clean and unopinionized, and the second one is full-on Waterloo.
I don’t have an answer to this problem, so honestly I’m staying out of c/worldnews now, because it’s not worth it
I'm also worried about this as much as you; my opinion is that it should have stricter rules/code of conduct, just because it's the most important news community
Edit: found the argument, it's @Jeffrey's on this post, credit to him/her.

I'd like to learn it one day though: seems like an interesting hobby, and at the same time a huge pain

Sorry, I'm not literate on programming language. I actually wanted to try it on Windows.
After download I unpacked the file but there wasn't any launcher attached, I followed instructions but nothing happened, so I don't know if I have to download any other program

I have the option in about:config for updated Firefox. Thank you for the advice, I think I'll keep it on
Torquatus 3 years ago • 100%
This is all really cool thanks for the advice. I should be applying it more because I risk falling into the same news that just few publishers give, ignoring others.
I'll keep an eye to all these you mentioned. Really grateful thanks, if you have any other suggestion, I'll be glad to hear

Ti tieni molto aggiornato con le notizie, grande! Posso chiederti da dove prendi le notizie? Io fatico a capire chi è affidabile e chi no.
Da due anni uso Squid, ma ha un alto numero di elementi traccianti; da due settimane seguo Morning, un podcast mattutino de Il Post, e recentemente mi sto interessando ai fact-checkers, che sembrano essere criticati non so ancora perchè

Sorry bro, but I can't trust Swiss Policy Research with what they say, being that they're not transparent with their work. I'm sure you've read "Criticism of SPR" at the bottom of their About Us / Contact page

Yes, I will. I'm constantly looking for the best way to be informed about current events without bs. Thank you for the suggestion, can you please give me an alternative to fact-checkers, which seem to give empirical evidence on events portrayed by media?

On Media Bias/Fact Check, The Grayzone is still pending evaluation, but is marked as a news outlet that publishes conspiracy and pseudoscience, although being a premature labeling. Of course, we should wait for a full review

I live in an area where organic waste is collected to be recycled, which is why I'm not sure if I should be composting anyway, what do you suggest?
Edit: Thanks for the responses! I've looked at the benefits of composting in my area, and it seems that, not only I won't pay organic waste, but I can get a discount on waste expenses. Pretty cool, I would like to start growing some veggies

Hi, I've seen the video: the guy gave well-sourced arguments, and frankly, they seem to be more credible than the ones from the original video. Thanks a bunch! Also, I agree with the points you make
Torquatus 3 years ago • 100%
Interesting, thanks. Still, the land usage issue is addressed in the video, and makes a good point too.
EDIT: made this comment before watching this video, which addresses the original one. Also, I've checked out the channel you suggested, and I like it. Thanks! (btw not vegan either, but who knows)
Hi, I've recently seen this video by a channel called What I've Learned, regarding the environmental impact of animal agriculture, in both of which Dr. Frank Mitloehner, a Professor and Air Quality Extension Specialist at the University of California, expresses his opinion on this topic. In short, he suggests that cow industry is not so disruptive as it is portrayed. I'm trying to understand if his points are valid. What are your thoughts? Please let me know, thanks

I checked it out, seems really interesting. I'm not much into cryptos, but having watched the seminars about Duniter, Libre Currency etc., I like the idea.
Can anyone interested in this point out: what of this project doesn't sit right with you, or what can be changed, in your opinion?

I'm still undecided on which one to pick... using Bromite since 6 months, and it works very well. If I wanted to switch to Firefox, I think it's mainly because of pc-phone sync (on pc it's really good), although there are OS programs that do that. What do you think?
Aside from that, may switch from time to time, trying out Fennec, Nightly or Beta. I'm open to discussion for better phone browsers!
Torquatus 3 years ago • 100%
the whole subject and issue is so large a nuanced there will never be an end to the ranting
I think I agree. I don't know much about it, but I've read of some examples, like circular economy, that are really effective in a short-scale environment. Nuclear energy is very controversial though; I would agree that renewable energy isn't still worth the cost, but I hope that there will be innovative ideas that may help. About the third paragraph: very interesting. The thing is, globalization can't be avoided; what you're saying already exists, but because there's competitivity, and people prefer mainstream products, it would be hard to regress to separated villages and cities, in my opinion. I hope I understood that correctly, let me know
