DuckDuckGo is OK, as is Yandex.
Also niche search engines like Marginalia or Wiby are good, if you want to look for stuff that's not corporate slop

Others have talked about the unhinged anti-communism, so I'll skip that.
But season 4 took this big, lovecraftian, difficult to comprehend horror, and just distilled it down to 'beef between some dudes'. And that's fucking boring!

If you're not wedded to an e-ink display, I bought a cheap android tablet for about $50, and set it to auto run an e-reader app called Moon+ Reader. You'll have to fork over a couple bucks for the ad free version, but it's a solid piece of software.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday, and the two hosts, who have both written books, made a brief aside complaining about people pirating their books.
And I think they were failing to understand that, if I pirate your book and I really like it... I'll probably go out and buy a physical copy for myself. Or vice vera. I bought your book, but I want it on my ereader. Pirate it.
It's no different from the sales "lost" when people freely check out a book from the library. In fact, it will increase exposure to your book.
Lots of people have become incredibly successful, because their art got known through piracy networks. Think Metallica playing stadiums off the back of tape trading.
We talk all the time about how "piracy is media preservation" which is true, but it's also a form of media discovery, and I think we should talk about that more.

If I may, it's less a matter of anyone consciously "rigging elections against third parties" and more a matter of the fact that the electoral system itself naturally trends towards a two party system. It's called Duverger's law.

I think it depends. Something realistic? I'd want ps3/ps4 level graphics. But for fucking Mario? That cartoony little shit does not have any reason having graphics at all superior to the fucking GameCube.

Yeah, like I've got a batocera emulation setup, and I have a bunch of old flash games I played as a kid on there, as a curiosity. But I hardly touch them.
The only one with substance that I occasionally go back to is this one puzzle game with little Viking guys trapped in ice, and you have to free them. It's a cute little time waster, but that's about it.

Liberals unironically believe this though. They're literally rewriting history! I love/hate reminding them that, no dipshit, Trump winning wasn't a matter of not enough people voting, it was a matter of how deeply ineffectual and anti-democratic the institutions you uphold actually are.

As a poli sci major, there are two broad camps of people in the field, when it comes to Marxism.
First are the people who do shit you're complaining about, where they "refute" Marxism without understanding a Damn thing about it.
And then there are the people actually doing Marxist analysis. The people actually doing Marxist analysis are mostly comparativists in the subfield of political-economy (Yes, it still exists, just as a sub-field of a sub-field of poli sci).
And the way these groups interact is the first group nods their heads in agreement with the Marxists. But only so long as it's called "political economy" and not Marxism. The minute you call it Marxism, they start trying to tear it down, even when they were just agreeing with it, five minutes ago.

Just started playing a patched English version of Boku No Natsuyasumi 2. For what's basically a chill, summer vacation simulator, I ran into some surprising character depth.
One of the characters you come across is an older girl named Yasuko. She lives with her little sister and grandpa, because her parents "aren't in the picture".
Her bedroom can't be accessed from within the house, because the door is locked. Her mom "took the key when she left". So you have to go around to the back of the house to get to it.
The room itself is full of books, records, and paintings that belonged to her dad. So there's a lot going on with this one character, and now I wanna know what her deal is!
Also, her room is cool as fuck, look at this shit!
Dora Richter, the first ever trans woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery, was usually thought to have died during the Nazis burning of the Institute for Sexual Research. However, new evidence points to Richter having successfully escaped the Nazis, and living a long life, until 1966, where she died at age 74.

It's fucking awful. The verbiage is so gross.
America was "built". The indigenous peoples were simply "Stewards" of "our land" and didn't build anything for themselves.
How did it come to be our land? Who can say?! But we're thanking the natives for taking care of them until we showed up UwU

You're missing my point.
I know full well where I'm posting. You're talking about the importance of nuance, while painting all Hexbear users as somekind of monolithic hivemind.
Meanwhile, I a humble Hexbear user, am trying to ask a user from another instance, in good faith, to explain their ideological position in more depth. Because I earnestly want to know.
If you want to probe the "liberal=fascist" sentiment, we can. But that's not the discussion I'm trying to have here.
You're the pot calling the kettle black, my friend.
SpookyGenderCommunist 4 weeks ago • 90%
Unfortunately, in some corners of Lemmy, such as Hexbear or Lemmygrad, the ability to distinguish and discuss nuance is not included in what I would describe as their "community values".
But I'm standing right here... Making a nearly identical point about liberals

If I may, can you clarify what you mean by
I am a liberal in the U.S sense. Not a leftist, nor a democrat,
In US political parlance, Liberal is typically synonymous with Democrats, and a broad, ill defined, 'left' of the political spectrum.
Outside the US, and in much of political science, liberal denotes a broadly centrist, status quo position, that can be left or right leaning.
And in neither of those definitions do liberals 'want revolution'. At least not in the way that my fellow commies on Hexbear might typically conceive of it.
Hello fellow Gamers, gather round to hear my rambling thoughts about a cheesy videogame from 25 years ago! When I was about 12 years old, circa 2010, a friend of mine dug out an old n64, and a few games, and one of those games was Resident Evil 2. For those who haven't played this charmingly bad game from 1998, in the midst of this gory, violent, and gritty (by 1998 standards) game, you come across a little girl named Sherry, and you have to escort her around. Sherry is simultaneously the most interesting character in the entire game, and also the most annoying. And among the reasons she is annoying, are the segments where you have to play as her. Now, when I was a kid, when a game asked me to pick a gender, I would always pick boy, because I felt like I had to. But when I played these Sherry segments, this was the first time I had played as a girl in a video game, that I could conceivably relate to in some way. I wasn't having fun, really... These segments are god awful to play. But they did awaken something in me. I was like, ".......You mean I get to be the little girl???" I wanted to be her so bad! This didn't crack my egg, and I quickly buried all of these feelings once I finished the game. But it's definitely a thing I look back on and think "oh the signs were always there. Anyway, this post is mostly just an excuse to get people to talk to me about my Trans Sherry headcanons. Also, ask me my opinions on the RE2 remake. I just finished it!
Yeah, I'm a gamer
All these politics podcasts are making me sad, and I need shit to listen to, at work
