Districts are nice in that you have a local representative beholden to you(ish) that you can bring issues to.

That happened with Windows 8 and Vista as well. There was a running joke that every other Windows release was garbage when I was growing up.
And the joke works with 8 and 10 both being shitty, because they skipped 9, which would have been the good one.
They really should have gone with Windows Nine, to bring the naming scheme in line with Xbox One while also avoiding the startswith.('Windows 9')

Which works fine as long as you don't mind keeping your worst employees, while all your best ones quit, which is generally the opposite of how it works during layoffs
Revan343 3 days ago • 100%
There's one important difference: with layoffs, Amazon gets to selectively lay off their worse performers. With mass-quitting, the quitters will be the people who will have the easiest time finding a new job, which I bet is mostly the high-performers, not the low ones

The reason people don't eat their neighbors' cats isn't because it'd be difficult, it's because most people aren't absolute psychopaths like JD Vance

Fair; that was mostly a general warning, not necessarily directed at you, because many people do copypaste terminal commands without knowing what they are actually doing.
As long as you understand what a command does, absolutely go for it. No point typing that shit out when somebody else already has

I specifically like Xfce or LxQt, because I generally run older hardware; I suppose my biggest question is how easily I could use either (not overly picky about which). I'm not sure which desktop environment LMDE defaults to, but both Gnome and KDE are deal-breakers for me, unless it's easily changeable.
I don't have that problem on my actual Debian machines, because they're headless anyways, there is no desktop environment at all
If I'm injured and need a blood transfusion, where are paramedics most likely to go for the needle; is it the vein in my arm, same as for blood donation? Wherever it is, if I get a tattoo noting my blood type, are you going to trust the tattoo and give me my blood type, or would you disregard it and go with O- just in case? I'm getting some tattoo work done anyways, and I really like the idea of a Canadian Blood Services logo plus my blood type wherever paramedics would see it, but it's pointless if they won't believe it
When reading a web page within Connect, it would be nice if long-pressing on links in the webpage would give a popup with the option to open the link in an external browser (and probably also an option to just copy the link). I frequently find myself linked to Wikipedia from a Lemmy comment, and then want to open other links from that wiki page, so then I have to open the page I'm on externally and refind my spot in the article. Having the same options when long-pressing a link in a comment/post would be nice as well.
**Edit**: there's already a setting for it, another user pointed it out. Ignore me :) ~~Currently, when you block an instance or community, it's blocked app-wide. I had blocked various NSFW communities and instances on my main account so that they don't show up in my All feed, but now I can't access them from my NSFW account unless I use a different app to do so, or repeatedly unblock and reblock them as needed.~~ ~~Can we instead make block lists on a per-account basis (or have the option of account-associated or global blocking)?~~
The text when I try to type comments (but not the text in the search bar or, as I'm just now learning, here in the 'post body' text box) is white, and I can't find the setting to change it. Obviously I could change my background back to the default blue that it was, but that's the opposite of a solution. Anybody know?
