I’m starting to realize this also. At first, Lemmy seemed great with conversations, but it’s starting to shift waaay too far left and I’m a liberal myself.
Honestly considering going back to Reddit… just sucks because the only mobile option is their shitty app.

That's great! I'm glad you found something that works for you. Like I said, my laptop is running Linux (Arch btw) and I've had fun learning a new OS and I do enjoy the lack of bloatware.
I guess what I meant to say is that people act like windows is unusable, as in, they can't figure out how to use the OS like it's something very complex.

I couldn't help but look at your post history, and I see that you're against Russia invading Ukraine. Well our same politicians that are feeding us shit slop are the same ones that are sending billions of dollars to Ukraine in aid and supplies to help Ukraine win this war.
Again the U.S. isn't perfect, but people always seem to have to find a way to make it sound like it's the worst country in the world when in reality it's not.
I've lived in a couple of different countries myself and speaking with the natives there, I would hear so many things they considered that was bad about their country and government, and how they would love to live in the U.S. I was always confused about this because I hear so much negativity about the U.S. online but in reality it seems quite the opposite.

I was taught American exceptionalism and said the national anthem every school day of my childhood, K-12.
I was too and did the same, but I was taught to break away from the mold and usual thinking as a young adult pretty early on (thank you parents and to some of my teachers). I'm sorry to hear that those people in your life lied to you and never thought to help you break out of that mold.
The states is so vast that what you're saying doesn't always apply to another person. It's funny because you mention being born in Seattle and growing up in LA. Well I was born in Georgia and most people would have you believe living in the south is shit (which to be fair, some places are), but I can say my life experience has been completely different than yours.
As I mentioned before the states has its problems for sure but it's not all bad and your experience can vastly differ from another.

The amount of people that like to shit on the U.S. constantly... Like damn I get it, we definitely have problems, but people here would have you think it's like the wild wild west over here... I promise I'm not fearing for my life every time I go out.
-
The extreme left views (I'm liberal myself but some of the things people say here really have me scratching my head sometimes)
-
The amount of Windows bad, Linux good posts.
-
The amount of people that immediately shit on Apple because of privacy, but use an Android device that accesses the Google Play store (yes I know you can install custom privacy roms, but let's be real, how many casual users are doing this?)
-
People always asking if something is FOSS...
These are just a few off the top of my head.

This! I use Linux on my laptop but also have a desktop that runs Windows 10. Some people here act like windows is completely unusable when in reality it's much more user friendly than Linux.

It’s like I get the point of this war but at the same time it’s just something about the music playing in the background like it’s some kind of call of duty montage that makes me feel uneasy about it.
I was in the military too and there are often times where I didn’t agree with certain things but it’s part of the mission.
Idk, it’s just sad and unfortunate all around.
These people have friends and family that I’m sure care about them..
Sorry if this is posted already, but will we be able to view bookmarks soon and also be able to save posts? This is quickly becoming my favorite Lemmy app on iOS and it’s really smooth on the iOS 17 beta!

I just want to put it out there that even though I get your intent, it’s not necessarily something that will be taken without criticism. I’d rather people not get in trouble for stealing, no matter if you think it’s justified or not.
For people that are in need of food assistance and located in the U.S. you can visit here https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/state-directory and select the state you’re living in. That should get you started in receiving food assistance and necessities from the government.

Which Apple device is not letting you uninstall those apps?

Please people, do not actually steal from these stores. This is the quickest way to get arrested and end up with a criminal record.
The prosecutor is not going to give a damn what your reasons were for stealing so please keep that in mind.

Oh I've actually been told by fat people that there's no way that I actually enjoy working out and that I'm forcing myself to go to the gym while not enjoying it.
Guess it's weird I like improving my physique and enjoying seeing how I can reach new goals ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

KuroJ 1 year ago • 100%
Seriously, I honestly feel like this is a bad look for Lemmy right now. Like who cares how people enjoy Lemmy? Also, why do people care so much about how others spend their money?
Some of these people don't even realize they are using a closed source app (connect) and have no problem with it, but when price is introduced all of a sudden people are up in arms.
Don't like the price? Continue to use Sync(with ads) or use the other plethora of FOSS alternatives.
KuroJ 1 year ago • 100%
Funny enough, I'm getting ready to board a plan soon and I'm using sync 😂
Have you tried Memmy for iOS?
Yes I have! Memmy is a great app and it was the first one to reach the Apple store. The development team consistently pushed out updates pretty much daily and was able to provide the most features of any Lemmy app currently on iOS, at least in my opinion.
My main phone is also an iPhone, but it's just something about sync. Like it's seriously so fluid and it just feels "right" I would highly suggest giving it a try if you have an Android device laying around that can support it.
KuroJ 1 year ago • 92%
That's fine. In my opinion, I think that would be more of a valid point if there were no alternatives, but as the original post shows there are plenty of FOSS apps available for those that want that.
I just feel like the developer has took a lot of his time and effort to make this for the community, but instead, some of the community decides to bash him for it due to the pricing model and it not being FOSS.
We're supposed to be building Lemmy as a community but here we are fighting against ourselves internally when there's plenty of options for everyone to use.
KuroJ 1 year ago • 96%
I honestly don't see what the problem is. If you prefer FOSS use FOSS apps.
I've tried every single Lemmy app for iOS and Android, but I can honestly say nothing comes close to how smooth and native Sync feels.
I wasn't even a Sync user on Reddit so I didn't understand the hype, but I get it now. On my Pixel 6 Pro all of the other Lemmy apps had some kind of issues, whether that be random crashes or frame rate issues. But Sync is just so smooth and feature rich.
I've also joined the sync discord and the developer is very clear on what type of data he collects (He doesn't, but Google may).
Also with the pricing, if you don't agree with the price that's your opinion, but the amount of complaining is ridiculous. He made the app so whatever he wants to charge is his decision. You can also still freely use the app (with ads) so no one is forcing you to buy.

And so many people like myself, and perhaps yourself, may have a lot of symptoms but have managed to fly under the radar because we were able to get good enough grades in school for example, and have good enough social skills to make and maintain friendships, and get and keep jobs, all to varying extents. But inside, unbeknownst to those around us, we have been expending 10 times, 100 times the energy that most people use in order to meet those expectations put on us. And we just assumed everyone was struggling this hard with everything. But it turns out it’s not supposed to be this hard.
This makes so much sense. I do find myself struggling at times to keep certain relationships going with people I meet or sometimes even with just my friends. For example, sometimes when I get a message from a friend I end up not reading it, and saying to myself, "I'll look at it later", then that later becomes later and later... until it just constantly starts eating away at me every day and maybe two weeks later I might finally respond... I'm glad my friends that I do have don't take it that I'm being rude 😅
Anxiety because we learn to be on high alert for when we are not behaving in the socially acceptable way so we are constantly in fight or flight mode in order to stay on top of those expectations.
I definitely feel this. Sometimes I have to process in my head how to respond a certain away when I'm around people in a social setting, and when I actually say it out loud, I just think to myself how stupid that must have sounded and the people around me probably think that I'm weird.
Thanks for the videos! I know what I'll be watching tonight, and if I do run into any videos regarding Black mean diagnosed with autism I'll send them your way :)
KuroJ 1 year ago • 100%
Wow, thanks for all the information. I’m a black male and I would have to say that it’s not really talked about at all, because it’s a sign of seeming “weak”.
That YouTube video you linked hit home and explains a lot of things that my ex partner did such as not taking care of her hygiene properly, and I just couldn’t understand at all.
I’m thinking mostly that she was autistic and I’m starting to see that I demonstrate some signs, but not as much as she did. I’ve already started medication for anxiety and I can tell a world of difference in my daily interactions with people.

Seeing all of these posts that I agree with in this community is really opening my eyes…
My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with autism and I’ve been learning so much just through her and some of the readings I’ve done.
Excuse my ignorance, but is this a trait that is passed down? If so, I’m trying to figure out how did I make it this far in my life without the proper coping mechanisms.

I’m not sure why your being downvoted, but it’s true. Allied countries of the U.S. do not have to put much towards their military budget do to being able to rely on the U.S.
The U.S. has a strong military presence in the Indo-pacific region and if they didn’t, surely some adversaries would have already been having their way.
It’s unfortunate it comes to this but that’s just the facts.
Hi all, I just switched over to Android and I'm enjoying the connect app so far! I did have a question about the swipe sensitivity though. When I swipe to upvote a comment I constantly keep swiping too far and end up saving the comment instead. I checked through the settings, but unless I'm missing something, it doesn't seem there's a way to slow down the swipe feature. Edit: In case it helps, I'm using a OnePlus 9.
This is a picture I took when I was on vacation in Japan of Hōkan-ji Temple in Kyoto. I miss it already and I'm ready to go back!
Hello all, I'm in the market for buying a new laptop to install Linux on. I'm trying to stay with something relatively cheap (Around $300 and below). I'm getting ready to start a degree program in cyber security and did some research, and it seems Kali Linux would be the best distro for me to install. I would install it on my current computer, but I only have a 2015 MacBook Pro, and I've read that a few people run into some issues installing on a Mac compared to a regular PC. With the above in mind, do I need to increase my budget or does Linux run fine on low-end laptops? Thanks!
No shade to the other app developers! Just have grown accustomed to seeing these Memmy updates constantly!
Takke is the official mascot of Fussa, Japan. Fussa is located in the Tokyo prefecture, and is known for the US Air Force base. Very quiet place and a lot of Japanese tend to stay here to move away from some of the more busier areas of Tokyo.
