Yeah, but I like to play PC games.

At least most of the spinoff stuff is better, if still not great.

Wow, that's a lot of the franchise to dislike. You don't even like episode 6?
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
I agree. I had a lot of hope after episode 7, but it turned out so bad. A lot of the individual elements, like you said, are good. But the whole trilogy is definitely less than the sum of its parts.

I love the tactile feeling of writing on paper.

My thoughts exactly. It's all devolved into savage economic darwinism. Giant corps won't stop until they own literally everything, and even then, it likely won't be enough. It truly is a cancer on society. It's not like I want to abolish capitalism, I'm no tankie, but when does the greed stop? There's a reasonable limit somewhere, but apparently in the minds of the corporate overlords:

The insane greed is something I simply can't comprehend. Isn't there a point at which it's enough? It seems almost like a mental illness. Indefinite growth and infinitely increasing profit margins aren't possible. There's a limit to value and possible revenue. I don't know where all of this is going, but it can't be anywhere good, and I'm sure it will be violent. I seem to be in the minority, but I absolutely believe there is a point where a person has enough wealth and doesn't, perhaps even shouldn't, have more.

I'm not an economist, but what is the endgame here? Eventually, in their ideal delusions, every household has their own subscription. How do they intend to fuel growth then? Just more price increases? I don't understand this extreme capitalism. Can't a business just be happy to be profitable? Why do they focus so much on indefinite growth like some kind of tumor?
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
I did. I'm disappointed, but not surprised that it worked. I have no problems dropping Disney, too. The open sea is vast.
Okay, so this isn't painting, but I figured someone would know something about this. What kind of material us the Tamiya extra thin brush made of? I tried to use some cheap synthetic paint brushes with it, but they hardened and broke apart. Anyone have any luck finding a decent brush to use when applying extra thin for assembly?

Isn't that also referred to as Virtual Intelligence vs Artificial Intelligence? What we have now I'd just very well trained VI. It's not AI because it only outputs variations of what's it been trained using algorithms, right? Actual AI would be capable of generating information entirely distinct from any inputs.

I think I could count the number of porn posts I've seen in the last month on one hand. Where do they claim all of it is coming from? I wouldn't mind more porn tbh.
I know the game started with Galactic Civil War so obviously it haw greater variety, but does anyone else feel like Clone Wars isn't as interesting to play? I sorely want a third corpse unit for GAR and CIS. Whenever I make any army for either, I feel like I always end up with less units and the upgrades don't synergize very well. Am I just not playing them right?

Yeah I intend to buy a box of cheap minis on Amazon to test and practice with before moving on to my actual minis.

Does slap chop work for almost completely white minis like stormtroopers? Or even necessary for all black minis like death troopers?
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
I've been watching some of those videos, but I'm not really sure if slap chop works for mostly white like stormtroopers and clone troopers? It also doesn't seem like it would be helpful for death troopers or imperial special forces.

Maybe I will just buy the black quickwash only. Thanks for the input.

So here's the conundrum I seem to run across in hobby stuff. On one hand, you don't want to spend ludicrous amounts of money on high end equipment off the bat because you may not keep up with the hobby. However, if you buy really crappy tools then your end product could end up trash no matter how good you might be, and then you might just give up. Do you have recommendations for any specific middle of the road brushes? What about the AP hobby starter brush set?
So I'm getting ready to dive into the world of finally painting my Star Wars Legion minis. I'm planning on getting an Army Painter speedpaint 2.0 set to start. Should I also buy the wash set? I'm not sure if it would improve my results as a beginner, though I imagine I will want them if I keep up with painting. I'm intending to start by getting this Army Painter's stuff: Speedpaint most wanted 2.0 set Most wanted brush set Matte white primer Matte varnish Project paint Station
So I'm about to begin painting for the first time, but I'm not sure what colors to buy. I play Star Wars Legion so I'll be painting a bunch of stormtroopers, death troopers, and other very monocolor minis. Should I use black and white primers for them? Or do neutral grey and paint the colors? Bonus points if anyone can tell me if wildspire minis are good for a first time project.

How is the quality of Army Painter over Citadel? I'm in the same boat as OP and just starting out learning to paint. I know it's more expensive, but I'm leaning towards getting one of the Citadel starter packs. I'm also thinking a handle would be really nice, but I'm unsure.
For those of you in the US, how's the Adderall shortage going? I'm going to ask my psych to switch over to it because my insurance is driving the price of Focalin through the roof. I want to get an idea if its even feasible right now.

Generic Focalin

Yeah I will be bringing it up when I see him next.

I've never been on Adderall. I've only taken Focalin, so I don't know about that.
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
They do help me a lot. I certainly don't want to stop taking them. I'm considering asking to switch to adderall as I'm currently on focalin due to the shortages.
So was curious if this was unique to me, or is a universal experience. As soon as I start thinking about taking my medication in the morning, my heart starts racing before I've even taken the bottle out of the cupboard. Then I take it and my heart continues to race for about 45 to 60 minutes before it calms down. It doesn't hurt, but it's unpleasant and kinda spoils my mornings. Anyone who has ever consumed way too much caffeine in a short period of time can relate.

I did the same, but for credit card debt and car loans. To give myself a little credit, I did end up paying off my 9k credit card debt and my 5k car loan during the pause and pandemic. But I don't have much $ for student debt right now and it'll be a while before I do.

New Reddit isn't gonna tolerate a sub dedicated to content piracy with an IPO in mind. That ship is sinking if not sunk already. If you don't like it here, I'm sure there are other places on the internet for discussion.

I hope the forgiveness program goes through. I could never hope to pay off my student debt otherwise as things are going.

Yeah I'm starting to realize some things after really exploring Lemmy after a few days. My biggest concern is that the whole federated thing isn't gonna work for me. I don't want to hunt for small communities and then risk losing them in petty squabbles by those who control them. It's like a whole bunch of little villages who claim to be united and connected, but in reality any village can cut off contact with any other for whatever reason their village leader(s) decide. You can leave the village if you don't like it, sure, but do you really want to end up as an internet nomad? I sure don't. Federation clearly does not inherently mean everyone is connected, despite what some proponents of the fediverse might say.

"Okay, so it's the 41st millenium and there's this guy called The Emperor. He doesn't have a name, he's just The Emperor and he's the most powerful psychic in the galaxy. He's also a skeleton that's barely even alive sitting on a giant physic-amplifying throne. You see, what happened is that around the 30th millenium..."

I think it would be fine. It would fill the communities a bit.
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
As a Reddit refugee, and thus part of the problem, this kind of thing is what makes me unsure if I want to use Lemmy. I don't want to suddenly lose access to communities I've become accustomed to for reasons beyond my control.
Also, is there a way to see all the instances that have specifically defederated or blocked this one?
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
I agree, this kind of thing is exactly what I think is going to stunt Lemmy growth. Federation is a double edged sword.
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 85%
It seems like Lemmy is already experiencing further fragmentation and authority struggles. It doesn't bode well for growing Lemmy as a whole. Federation seems to be a double edged sword.

Speaking their truth. In this kind of situation, the only absolute truth is that u/spez is a huge fuckwad. All else is really just opinion.
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
Really unfortunate, but not really unexpected honestly. The average user probably doesn't care that much and will just go along with whatever because they're just used to Reddit and aren't interested in putting forth the effort to find alternatives, regardless of how simple it actually is. It was an amazing effort by those who cared, but I'm gonna put on my tinfoil condom here and say that a lot of mods have likely been replaced and the criticality of Reddit has been intentionally suppressed in favor of positive sentiment. Don't give into vitriol, after all we did exactly what it says at the end of the post and we seem to be much happier overall. I would have never heard of Lemmy or Mastodon had all of this this not happened.

Have you tried clearing the cache and all data from the Jerboa app?
Wanted this to be here even though everyone has already seen it because I love it so much.
I've been hooked on Vampire Survivors because of how unobtrusive the ads are. They're completely voluntary and not required to get the full game experience at all. I've done most of what you can do and found Magic Survival to be another good survivors game. The ads aren't optional, but they only occur at the end of a run, so it's really not a big deal. It's a bit more primitive than VS, but the game play loop is still there and engaging.
Homo_Stupidus 1 year ago • 100%
Same. I won't let go of Reddit completely until more of the people in my favorite subs migrate and rebuild their communities here, if they do so at all. But Lemmy and Mastodon will become my new main social hubs either way.

I don't mind paying for a premium game as long as it's actually worth the price.
Or just any mobile games in general? I'm looking for discussions and recommendations for mobile games that aren't just trashware and cash grabs. Edit: u/_MoveSwiftly has kindly created https://lemmy.world/c/androidgamers for this exact purpose.

Yeah I stopped playing about 2 years ago just because of product fatigue. And the new LOTR stuff costing twice as much as a regular set? No thank you. They have also leaned heavily into turning MTG into a weird "investment vehicle" with all these ultra-collectible and exclusive cards, the most egregious of which is the "one of one ring." It's pretty gross. It's much less about the actual game now, which I'm sure would (does?) disappoint Dr. Garfield as he only wanted to make a game. He expected people to play magic at the kitchen table and wrap a rubber band around their deck when done.
