In Australia, we have followed the British housing tradition and have really bad insulation too! We are working on fixing it but there is so much to retrofit.

On the other hand, using a heat pump for replacing a hot water heater is definitely a good thing. Using a heat pump on an old water radiator system may not work well. Friends had to replace a gas heater for their water radiator system and were told that there wasn’t a heat pump unit hot enough for the retrofit.

I’m starting to think that social media sites of a certain size are more like common carriers (in the telecommunications sense) than news or discussion sites. As such they should be bound to deliver clear moderation and ensure that everyone able to be connected and communicate with in the clear rules. Ie. screw the algorithm and weird owner interference.

What you are saying is a reasonable take on all points. I do think that there are those people who sign on to an idea or cause and can never shake it. Similar to a gambling addiction or conspiracy beliefs like Flat Earthers. Being called a slave by his conservative mates isn’t enough to break through, I hate to think how much pain is required before his reality shifts.

Another name for leaf blowers is air brooms and air brooms are useful for big jobs. They now come as battery powered which is better on two fronts as they are quieter but more importantly they are not using 2 stroke motors. Apparently the 2 stroke is the most polluting of internal combustion engines whose design hasn’t really improved since they were first invented.

It’s more about metabolic health rather than weight loss or gain. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of cellular biology and not having enough or poorly functioning mitochondria leads to all sorts of problems like inflammation and metabolic disorders like diabetes. A well functioning mitochondria should give more energy and better performance as well as better health.

In Australia it stems from the use pays ethos. Universities have to raise funds and then do research based on what the funders want. Pretty stultifying to be a researcher.
