I haven't been to McDonald's in a few years but I stopped into one for breakfast on a recent road trip and discovered that a single hash brown is now $2.50 plus tax!
Realistically, a hash brown probably should cost that much when you consider the number of people involved in creating, transporting, and serving it to you but I don't think we're seeing wages support that.

I think that might depend on who you're hiring though. That's the same line our boss told me when they pushed me back to the office. But in the time since then, we have hired several new staff who actually prefer to communicate digitally. They will email, teams, phone, or text me with questions before actually seeking me out in person.

I'm on day 744 and my streak is just an alternating pattern of fire and ice. I hate it but I think I hate the idea of dropping all that progress more. Did you stop using Duolingo altogether or just switch to practicing when you want to?

Shit like this happens all the time. My wife had her ovary twist and went to the ER because she was in extreme pain. She sat in the waiting room for 10 hours since they thought she was just overreacting and couldn't be in that much pain. Once she actually got to see the doctor he "jokingly" asked if she possibly could have caught an STD (we've been together for 14 years by that point) and decided to take a blood sample to at least say they did something. When results came back with an EXTREMELY high white blood cell count, they actually started to take her pain seriously. She was in emergency surgery within a few hours after that. Had they ignored her any longer it would have ruptured inside her and potentially died. Coincidentally, when they went in to untwist it, that's when they realized she also has endometriosis. After years and years of being told by her doctor that periods are painful and just deal with it, she finally had proof that it was actually not normal to be in that much pain every month. I really don't understand why a woman in pain is not a concern but if a man has a headache, then they leap into action.

I suspect if someone who makes 50K a year has millionaire connections, those connections would have probably helped them by now and not have to wait for them to die.
I could be wrong, money seems to make people selfish and greedy. So maybe the millionaire would rather hoard their wealth than let the 50K person get any before they die. But they're still nice enough to let them have something after they pass?

It's ridiculous that Christmas decorations and shopping starts popping up in stores 4 months early in September (late August in some cases). No other holiday is like that. It's like seeing Valentine's Day stuff out in November or Halloween out in July. Personally, I feel oversaturated and sick of Christmas by the time it actually arrives.

I don't know about giving extra benefits to workers with children. Certainly, workers with children should be given what they need to have a healthy work/life/family balance but I don't think workers without kids should be denied those same opportunities just because they chose to live their personal life differently. I think workers in the same role should be equally compensated with all of the same benefits and opportunities which then can be utilized as best suits their personal situation.

My wife and I were thinking about this last week. We were wondering about personal security. At least where we live, they like to make a spectacle of the big winner with photo op, publish name and how town, etc. We wondered if that would invite trouble for the winner. For instance, would people try to break in expecting you to have valuables? Would you be a target for kidnapping and ransom? What about your family or close friends, would someone kidnap them to get you to pay ransom on? Even if you immediately spent it all, would people still try, not knowing it's all gone? I'm with you, I'd keep it as secret as I could.

Yep, it's been so long that I feel awkward about reaching out, which makes me delay and avoid reaching out, which makes it even longer since we last talked, which just makes me even more awkward about reaching out. It's a vicious circle...

This is exactly how I feel. I have so many things to do that sometimes I get overwhelmed and end up doing nothing. Then I beat myself up that I just wasted that time (intentionally doing nothing is better than doing nothing out of anxious paralysis). Even when I try to intentionally relax, I find myself recounting all the things I "should" be doing instead. I've learned that I need to stop shouldding on myself. I still do it, but at least I'm aware of it and watch out for it now.

My grandma hid in a nearby woods with a small candlelight and gave treats to whoever dared approaching.
Fuckin What?! I love it, it sounds awesome, but can you imagine, "strange woman lures kids into the forest with candy", that would never happen today.

I liked the theatrical ending. It may have been somewhat ambiguous but it certainly felt like it was the end for John Wick, whether he died or that he was actually free now. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that they're rolling out #5 just because #4 made money. I think it's time for John's story to end. Not to say that the world they built needs to end, I'm looking forward to the spin off shows. I personally find it a little tiring to have each film set up the antagonist as the best-of-the-best/top-of-the-top for John to overcome (which is why it's so satisfying when he does) only for the goalposts to move and reveal an even bigger/better villain in the next movie.

From the article: -The buses were on time only about 50% of the time. -The buses were early 12% of the time. -4 routes (10N, 11S, 12N, 13S) saw higher demand on Saturdays than during the week. -Lincoln and Silverwood routes are barely used. -Sunday service is being considered.
