Your reasoning makes perfect sense, and now I wish I didn't brute-force it head-first. Thanks for pointing that out !

    1
  • DeadNinja DeadNinja 11 hours ago 100%

Bingo. I guess you got my reason behind flagging the square above the "4".

But I am still stuck.... May be brute force is the only way out...

    1
  • DeadNinja DeadNinja 11 hours ago 100%

I think so too, but so have been unable to reason anything. Heading in brute-force is obviously the last resort for me, but was looking for something logical before I do that.

    1
  • DeadNinja DeadNinja 11 hours ago 100%

Because the two covered squares to the left of the "4-with-flag-on-top-of-it" can have only 1 mine (because of the "2" there), which means the "3" needs one more mine, which can only be on top of that "4".

    At least that's my reasoning.

This is guess-free, and 14 mines left, all under those uncovered squares. Any thoughts on how to proceed ? ------------------------- EDIT - never mind. Tried brute force with the hope that the path I choose would be the right one - and lost. But there's always a next ~~time~~ mine, lol. And it was indeed heartening to see the Minesweeper community in Lemmy is not dead.

Yep, someone thought of porting the awesome Freetube app to Android. It's not as polished as NewPipe, but gets the job done. Especially at this time, it's the only one that is working, having both a local API as well as option to use Invidious API.

I pulled the apk straight from their github page via Obtainium. You may want to give it a try.

Most Piped instances are also not working because they use NewPipe Extractor under the hood.

I have also temporarily switched to FreeTube for Android, because a few of the Invidious instances are still working fine.

The nice thing about the FOSS world is that it's pretty easy to import subscriptions and other stuff from NewPipe to FreeTube.

I hope this YouTube fuckery is handled soon. I love NewPipe way more every time it successfully deals with the YT weirdos.

What are these "bass" and "treble" that I see in an equalizer ?

I am not an audio person, so do not have much idea about technical terms - but I hear the words "bass" and "treble" almost everywhere now, especially in the equalizer app that came with  a new bluetooth earbuds that I bought (yes, I am still very much a wired-earbud guy, just dipping my toes in the wireless earbud ocean). So what do these "bass" and "treble" mean? I guess I hear the sounds to be different when I monkey around with the equalizer. The sound is slightly deep/full for "bass" and less so for "treble". Is that all?

    Lemmy.world blocks VPNs

Basically the title. I use MullVad, and recently discovered that Lemmy.world is not allowing me to submit new posts or commenting on others' posts if I have my VPN on. For now I have excluded my Lemmy client of choice (Voyager) from my VPN, so things are back to normal. As a reason behind this, I read elsewhere that this blocking of VPN is intentional as certain people posted CSAM while behind VPN. This is pretty despicable, so I totally support shutting those people out. However, on that same note, I think it is fair to assume that every post and comment on Lemmy is stored along with the IP address of the User. Is that right? ----- **Edit** : Some readers are confirming that they can write posts and comments in Lemmy.world while on a VPN - and I wholeheartedly thank them. I only posted what I personally (and some other lemmings as well) experienced. I still do not know if this is a widespread problem or only happening to a few.

I switched over to Aldi since 2020, they are quite decent when it comes to the basics.

Good to know they are expanding. Aldi's Sister concern Trader Joe's is already heavily present in the New England region, although I suspect they have a more 'niche' group of customers.

Why do crumbles always settle at the bottom, like in a bag of chips, or a box of cereals?

Basically title. My basic physics knowledge says that the larger chips - near the top of a bag of chips - are not "stable", they are kinda precariously balanced only at one or two points. But once the brittle chips break down, they tend to settle at the bottom because the crumbles are more "stable" there, and are at a lower state of potential energy. Just my own theory, but would like to know what others think here. **Edit** : Does this question not belong to this community ? I couldn't explain the downvotes..

Thanks for pointing it out. Edited the title.

Does your medical insurance advocate on your behalf, can you send them the bill yourself for them to deal with?

They generally do. In fact the previous incident I mentioned about in my post - the provider said they sent the claim to my insurance, while in reality they did not. My insurance stepped in at that time (because the bill explicitly mentioned "claimed to XYZ insurance", and that was obviously a lie) - and they sorted it out with the provider (basically the provider admitting that some intern screwed it up and they had to actually submit the claim). I still left that provider.

This time it's different - because the provider has not yet submitted the claim and are is not hiding it either. They are just ignoring my requests to first claim then bill.

Not sure if my insurance has anything to do here.

Dealing with a BS "Billing Desk" [USA]

What are my options when my provider sends me a bill without submitting a claim with my med insurance, and is ignoring my repeated requests to submit the claim and send me a revised bill post-settlement? How do I prove that I do not owe the billed amount, and I do not owe them anything until they claim it through my insurance first? Unfortunately, I did encounter something very similar with a previous provider - and I naively decided to wait and watch when their "billing desk" was busy ignoring my requests to submit the claim first - just to get to the day when they sent it to collections. Dealing with collections is another nightmare, and while it went in my favor at that time, I promptly left that provider and switched to another. So I want to be cautious here this time, because although the "billing desk" of my provider might be a bunch of inefficient a-holes, I don't want to deal with collections again. Would welcome any insights ! Thanks !

Why do they advise to avoid flagging ( and in turn, chording) ?

I probably gave myself this bad habit of flagging and chording from the very beginning when I started playing minesweeeper - and got used to it. But I also heard that giving up flagging may take a while to get used to, but it may also make you faster in the long run. I mean, I get it - if you do not flag, you are basically avoiding hitting the squares you do not need to hit, and in turn reducing the number of clicks. I did try that a couple of times - but I found that I need to think a lot more when playing without flagging, and the "useful" patterns (1-2-1, 1-2-2-1 and stuff like those) are not really useful there. Thoughts?
