Since a few weeks ago, Lemmy.world will always log me out when I leave it, and I cannot find a "stay logged-in" tick-box anywhere in the settings. Is this a bug or a feature or perhaps a "me-problem"? Happens with Firefox and Vivaldi on Linux, if that matters. Emptying cache/cookies did not help. Mobile app is fine. Thanks for any hint! Hello, I was wondering if I could be added as a moderator to the Fallout New Vegas community. The only original mod, Lukjam, appears to have been inactive for the past year. I tried to reach out to them directly through DMs two weeks ago, but I have not heard back. I really want to make sure this community keeps going, but I think that will be difficult if there are no active moderators. Let me know if there is anything you need from me.

old.lemmy.world has been very slow all day and is now 503'ing continuously, lemmy instance health doesn't seem to cover old.lemmy.world, only the main instance, which seems to be working fine.
The link to https://browse.feddit.de/ is dead and should be updated to https://lemmyverse.net/communities. Personally i think it would even make sense to link this from the main site sidebar. Not because it is a problem finding communities on other instances from within world, at least this should be the best instance to be able to, but as a function of being a "role model" for other instances.
I've recently noticed that downvotes don't stick for the community Greentext@sh.itjust.works. Bug or design choice? Is there a work around? My account is with lemmy.world - do I need to log into a different instance to have full downvote capability? SOLVED - they banned me for downvoting their fascist frogs
Lemmy political Memes only seems to care about ignoring genocide and punishing those calling out uncivil accounts. Also more interested in banning those they don't like then locking posts due to *reporting* then actually moderating posts. Hello. When I Post by putting the video's URL, say from YouTube, the leftside square thumbnail preview is always the generic one provided by Lemmy World, the one with the the link arrow in the middle. So I simply put the URL of the thumbnail instead (eg. maxresdefault, sddefault, etc.) It's been like such since I joined. Then just lately, I found out existing Posts in other YouTube-related Communities, the leftside square preview thumbnails do in fact show, and with the link arrow on the top-right corner instead. And I think the Body automatically inherits the existing Title and Description from the YouTube video. Both `youtu.be` and `www.youtube.com` video links work in those Communities. Maybe the mod(s) got banned by admins? Doesn't seem to be too active thankfully, but it's probably only a matter of time before moderation will be needed there.
Honestly, in this day and age I consider VPN a basic internet hygiene. There are many many reasons to not trust your ISP and the wire between your home and ISP. You have moderation here, why do you even need to block VPN? I registered this account from VPN, but I somehow cannot comment from VPN? Doesn't make much sense. I'm using paid Proton VPN servers, and btw I've seen Proton having a dedicated community here on this platform.

I recently just noticed that one of my posts, the one to a petition on Care2, had its display picture from the petition itself get deleted as it was coming up as 404. I have changed it to a direct link to the image on Dingo for now while I'm wondering why I wasn't even notified of the reason why it was removed. Edit: Now it looks like it is 404 here as well.

In my view as a long-time moderator, the purpose of moderation is conflict resolution and ensuring the sitewide rules are followed. As [reported today by !vegan@lemmyworld](https://lemmy.world/post/18817262), moderator Rooki's vision appears to be that their personal disagreement with someone else's position takes priority over the rules and is enough to remove comments in a community they don't moderate, remove its moderators for the comments, and effectively resort to hostile takeover by posting [their own comment with an opposing view](https://lemmy.world/comment/11845583) ([archived here](https://i.imgur.com/25hkrv5.png)) and elevating it for visiblity. The removed comments relate to vegan cat food. As seen in the modlog, Rooki removed a number of [pretty balanced comments](https://imgur.com/a/X3NEQY7) explaining that while there are problematic ways to feed cats vegan, if done properly, cats can live on vegan cat food. Though it is a controversial position even among vegans, there is scientific research supporting it, like [this review](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9860667/) from 2023 or [the papers](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Knight+A&cauthor_id=37703240) co-authored by [professor Andrew Knight](https://www.andrewknight.info/about/bio/). [These short videos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWoNOMVnZ6E&list=PLxKqgL2UcLaTWSJpyOMR79od2DWkaeAWp&index=12) could also work as a TL;DR of his knowledge on the matter. To summarize, even if you don't agree with the position of vegan cat food being feasible, at the very least you have to acknowledge that the matter is not clear-cut. Moreover, there is no [rule of lemmy.world](https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/) that prohibits those types of conversations unless making a huge stretch to claim that it falls under violent content "promoting animal abuse" in the context of "excessive gore" and "dismemberment". For the sake of the argument, even if we assume that the truth is fully on Rooki's side and discussions of vegan cat food is "being a troll and promoting killing pets", the sitewide rules would have to be updated to reflect this view, and create a dangerous precedent, enabling banning for making positive comments about junk food (killing yourself), being parents who smoke (killing your kids), being religious "because it's not scientific" and so on. Even reddit wouldn't go that far, and there are plenty of conversations on vegan cat food on reddit. Given Rooki's behavior and that it has already resulted in forcing the vegan community out of lemmy.world and with more likely to follow, I believe the only right course of action is to remove them as a moderator to help restore the community's trust in the platform and reduce the likelihood of similar events in the future.

I'm wondering if there are any plans to upgrade to a newer version of lemmy. There was a change made a few months ago to have saved posts sort by the saved timestamp so that it will be chronological based on when things were saved instead of whatever it does right now. I tried looking around at the mastadon account and a brief search on lemmy.world but I'm not seeing anything that indicates when the next update might take place or what versions it will include.
Not my home instance, but I hope the question is pretty universal. Was hoping to check through some of my hidden posts that I hid for spoiler reasons now that it's not a concern.
