This is the full quote, according to Parenti:
Left anticommunists remained studiously unimpressed by the dramatic gains won by masses of previously impoverished people under communism. Some were even scornful of such accomplishments. I recall how in Burlington Vermont, in 1971, the noted anticommunist anarchist, Murray Bookchin, derisively referred to my concern for “the poor little children who got fed under communism” (his words).
It’s literally a personal anecdote claimed by Parenti, so I don’t see that being corroborated.

Potential explanations for this behavior:
- Confirmation bias
- The father is quicker to complement the daughter
- The mother is quicker to criticize the daughter
- The mother already knows how pretty the hair is because she was the one brushing it
- The mother was taking pictures of the process and seemed distracted
- The father participates in less care tasks (brushing hair can uncomfortable and boring and explaining why it’s necessary can be upsetting, so if the mother is taking on all that work, the father gets off the hook implicitly and doesn’t suffer the negative backlash)
- The father is normally the one who brushes her hair
- This behavior is modeled by the mother showing off her hair to the father
Note that none of these explanations involve the innate sexual preferences and desires of literal children
Okay, long story short: I know how hard-left this sub is, and I'm pretty much to the left myself. I can't stand crooked law enforcement. I fiercely support Black Lives, and I think we need reform badly. But I happen to enjoy some movies/shows/games that have police characters. And I'm getting beyond fed up seeing a certain movie (Zootopia) that impacted me so much get attacked from the let in this manner. Basically, I don't agree with how some in the hard left keep holding it up as "cop propaganda" or "fascist", which it isn't, and people accusing it of "getting racial allegories wrong" when in reality, the movie is an allegory for prejudice as a whole. Like, I don't find crap like this funny. I find it infuriating. Because it's not true. https://i.redd.it/0qy9v4on7gs31.jpg Some hard leftists accuse the film of missing the mark because the "predators" evolved from eating prey mammals to eating fish and bugs. That's not meant to symbolize anything in real life, it's just something that happened with those animals in a kids' movie. It doesn't clash with the movie's messaging at all. It's not "police apologism" because the police department is depicted as inept in many ways, and the story contains a moral against unfair profiling. Now for some reason, the "NP" link option isn't working, but I discussed this before in BreadTube and CompleteAnarchy. I'm asking you how you feel about this because I once encountered a thread in this sub mocking Judy Hopps, doing the whole "ACAB" thing, and I was legit upset by it. If you think I'm some kind of idiot, weirdo or loser for getting so emotional about a movie aimed at kids that's part of a big corporation that's your right. But people have been sharing "Judy's a pig, smash the state" memes in the Zootopia sub. And as someone who can't watch certain scenes in the movie without crying my eyes out, they really bothered me and I didn't think they were fair at all.

I came out on Facebook recently and my Messenger is just exploding. But I must obey the Egg Prime Directive.
I am tired of people saying my prepubescent son is their daughter’s boyfriend. I am tired of people thinking it’s cute to make toddlers kiss each other and invade each others’ boundaries. I am tired of people putting kids in tshirts that objectify them by calling them “studs” or “hunks” or “eyecandy” or referencing a “future hubby” or literally just printing patriarchal beauty standards on them by depicting them as a big muscle man or a curvy woman in a bikini. I am tired of people just defaulting to assuming that all children will end up in a cishet marriage and then will have biological children, in that order, as if any deviation from that path is an unforeseeable aberration. I am tired of people excusing literal pedophiles for religious or political reasons and then accusing queer people of being groomers. I am tired of people creating and maintaining entire industries and sports which systemically sexualize, abuse, and exploit children with minimal oversight. I am tired of being painfully aware of child sex trafficking happening in my area which has gone unpunished despite involvement from CPS and local authorities. And then watching people spread stereotypes about child predators which describe literally none of the people responsible. I am tired of being looked at like a predator for being at the playground with my child, first as a man, now as a visibly queer person. I am tired of people romanticizing my relationship while rejecting all the queer aspects of me and my partner that make our relationship healthy. I am tired of being reprimanded for teaching my kids age-appropriate information about sex which protects them from abuse. I am tired of the person reprimanding me raising a son who will literally never understand basic female anatomy because he’s being taught it’s icky. > 0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov *fucked him over* personally with his socio-economic theory. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world. I am fucking tired.

There’s a lot of truly bizarre opinion on nationalism and ethnicity when it comes to “tankie” and “red fash” discourse. Some streaming had a whole filled diaper moment talking about how anti-imperialist movements in Africa are ethno-nationalists for wanting to kick out their white ruling classes.

A lot of people get confused when I say there are binary trans women who exclusively wear men’s clothes and use he/him pronouns, and vice versa for trans men. Transitioning is hard, especially if you have elements of physical or psychological safety to consider. Doesn’t make anyone less trans.

imo one of :jordan-eboy-peterson:’s stopped clock moments is how the flood myth can be seen as a cultural analogy for civil dysfunction. We build up giant systems collectively over generations and by the time they start falling apart due to corruption, the effects of their failure can really feel supernatural.

That’s a good point. There’s an old school attitude that children will only ever behave because they’ve been dominated by their parents and therefore any “overindulgence” in a child’s desires is actually bad for the child because it violates the “natural” dominance hierarchy of the parent-child relationship and that’s why they misbehave.
There is a natural dominance hierarchy in the sense of “my child wants to run out into the street in front of traffic and I physically prevent them from doing so”. But the idea that a misbehaving child is misbehaving because they simply haven’t been dominated enough by authority figures is ridiculous. There are personality types which react to dominance with the exact undesired behavior (it me). And that’s to say nothing if the neglect that inevitably occurs when a parent-child relationship is damaged like this.

Music has always been heavily influenced by the physical spaces it occupies and the people who occupy that space. From classical symphonic music to EDM to stadium rock, all music relates to these spaces and adapts to the experience of their audiences. And the modern space is, disproportionately, headphones. And the modern audience is, disproportionately, a single person.
In other words, nearly all the modern music you listen to was created as an expression of capitalist atomization.

I figured as much. When I’m around libs I’ll push the class issue and just risk getting called a class reductionist if they’ve got intense brainworms. When I’m around comrades, I feel like the nuances and pitfalls are worth pointing out for lurkers. But I absolutely agree with you that someone celebrating the bourgeois-ification of a minority group is super sus radlib shit
Changeling 1 year ago • 100%
The issue is that “class first” has a super broad meaning. There are people who say “class first” to mean that bourgeoisie identity politics are not liberation (ie Raytheon’s first female CEO). And there are people who say “class first” as a pretense to tell the uppity minorities to fuck off and stop “splitting the movement” over their issues.

One of my favorite things about having kids has been being autistic af around them and them returning the favor without blinking an eye. None of us round when we talk about the time. We make random stim noises at each other. We are very frank about our feelings and compensate for that by setting and enforcing explicit boundaries.
My oldest told me last week, “I know there’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing, but I’m finding it annoying which is a sign that I’m probably overstimulated, so I’m sorry to interrupt what we’re doing but I’m going to go take a break and come back when I’m more regulated. If I’m not back in 20 minutes, I probably got distracted, so can you set a timer to come check on me?” Reflecting on it now, I could sob. If I’d had that level of insight and communication skills at their age I would have saved myself a LOT of pain. It’s not their job to make me proud, but I am so proud anyway.

Yup. Damaging trust in public education is a major point of campaigns spearheaded by pro-privatization think tanks. It’s not direct coordination, but you can see the superstructure forming a bed for these economic interests to lay in.

Although smart people don’t tend to believe outdated race science either so I guess that’s pretty self-explanatory
Conventionally intelligent people are actually more likely to believe race science because they’re more likely to have fringe beliefs in general. Turns out being good at manipulating logic makes you good at deluding yourself, too.
I know this wasn’t the point of your post, which I agree with in general. Just a common way for us to slip into the mindset that rationality is a trait rather than a skill which needs to be consciously used.
This piece of shit site is a snitch site to enable fascists to harass drag queens, any children attending these events GNC people in general, and any parents who would dare attend an event which encourage their child to read. It needs spam. And it needs it now.

Maybe someone can dig up sources. I don’t have time to atm. But piracy increases media consumption and those who pirate are also more likely to buy.
Anecdotally, if I pirate a game and don’t enjoy it, but it was a more indie title, I’ll still go and buy it if I have the money.
One time some dude at a bar was giving me a hard time for “not supporting devs”, so I looked up one of the pipeline artists for the corporate studio on LinkdIn, asked for her Venmo, paid her the MSRP for the game, and then showed the guy. I said, “and none of that went to the executives who didn’t do the work, so in a way, I’ve supported this game more than you ever have.” And of course, he still thought I was an asshole who “didn’t support developers”. And he was right about the asshole part But it quickly became clear that he was upset that I didn’t support the company itself. It’s bootlicking all the way down.
That last one is probably not a great anecdote for your partner, but goddamn it really lays bare how much the whole “support artists” thing is bullshit for so many people
