Kidnapping joke?
I won't be posting to lemmy anymore. I was using liftoff, and now that that's dead I really can't be bothered to learn another client. I post most of my content to my instagram now. If you are interested thats https://www.instagram.com/chamrsdeluxe I also still post to reddit /u/marc815 (I know, evil) every now and then to a couple communities that just don't exist here. Good bye lemmy peoples. Really enjoyed sharing and discussing my outfits and armors and props with you guys! I will check on this post for the next day or so at least tho to say bye to those who kept tabs on my stuff. If this makes you sad, hopefully this can cheer you up. https://youtu.be/zU3wHBJ1PxA

I cut myself out from the original background because the backdrop sucked. Wanted the focus to be the armor.

Inspiration armor
No potions, cloaks, hoods, baubles. Just trying to see how the surcoat will lay with my breastplate and what mods I'll need to do to achieve the lay of the blue surcoat seen in the inspiration armor.

This particular type of helmet is a 16th century "Armet" which is a style of closed helm. There are typically 2 types of closed helms, one is actually just called a "closed helm. "
An armet has cheek plates that close around your head to form the bevor (bit that protects your chin and neck to fully protect your head.
A "Close helm" has a single hinge point that the visor and bevor hinge on to close onto your face.
It's interesting stuff!

Typically it was about heraldry/house colors. It goes with the outfit. I did consider putting a white one or 2 in there as well.
If I want I can always wear different colors too.
Woohoo
![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d43c37d3-a70f-48d7-a89d-0368e4a8cdec.jpeg) The helmet is currently in the basement. Waiting for the base cost to dry before I can finally start weathering!

Thank'ee kindly! I would love to someday get sponsored by one of the vendors of this stuff and do reviews and content creation for this stuff. Would love to turn this passion into a way to earn a living instead of breaking my body in a factory.
I really appreciate your kind words!

Potato front facing cam. Gotta do what do.
ChamrsDeluxe 7 months ago • 100%
Had to use my front facing camera with a timer and then had to crop it.
Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do :( there's better pics of me in garb on my profile. This was a test fitting to see how it all worked and how my mobility was. Hence the jammies under the armor lol.

Oh damn. Sounds stressful.

Lol. More to come as well. Still gotta modify the surcoat to go better with my inspiration for this kit. Carian Knight from Elden Ring. I have a black surcoat I am going to modify to look like the blue surcoat on this guy.
ChamrsDeluxe 7 months ago • 100%
Oh, also what I am wearing under the breastplate is a padded textile armor called a gambeson. Adds more protection and padding. Good stuff!

So I know it's on the site that should not be named, but there's some good info on it here

ChamrsDeluxe 7 months ago • 100%
Just fashion I am guessing. Knights still occaisionally had their armor painted from time to time as people still like color, but bare armor was just more in style.
ChamrsDeluxe 7 months ago • 100%
Is that new? I've posted here so many times without the OC tag and never git removed before.
ChamrsDeluxe 7 months ago • 100%
Basically a surcoat and my hood that I'd normally pair with the armor.
It wasn't until the late 14th-15th century and beyond that bare armor was the fashion.
Here's my kit before I bought the breastplate and leg harness, and also the helmet I intend to wear with this kit.
I am getting a plume holder installed and then I will paint it to match!
ChamrsDeluxe 7 months ago • 100%
Thank you!
The armor is full steel. I have just painted it to look worn and "experienced" Can't strap the breastplate solo without longer straps lol. Fun fact, the breastplate isn't small, solitary breastplates are sized like this so the wearer stoll has full range of motion. If it was any longer you wouldn't be able to bend or lean. Jammies are also on. Couldn't be bothered to change into my trousers. speaking of legs, I made arming points for the leg harness and they work GREAT! This Wenzel bascinet isn't my main helm for this fit even though it would be more historically accurate to this style of armor. My armet just isn't finished and painted yet, but that will be my main. Also omitted is the maille skirt I have on order and the cloth layer of the armor. Just wanted to see how everything sized up.

I don't believe I am a Dwarf, cousin of Gimli, and companion of Thorin OakenShield, who later perished in an attempt to reclaim Khazad Dum.
Jk. Thanks!

Possibly? I don't have access to 3d printing tho
Finally recorded a video on how I paint and weather my armor. Going over the whole process (after base spray paint coat)
Looks much better.
Widened the eye slits with a rotary tool and the initial sanding and priming are done. Now more sanding, bondo and sanding and priming etc. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/8420f68c-bbad-4c54-9a54-f689adfe9a22.jpeg)
I'm already working on modifying it. I added the nasal between the eyes in the visor. Before pic ![before pic](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f5add97a-77d1-4abf-934a-6fb831cf89fc.jpeg) After pic ![after pic](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/6117f958-e854-4f36-a479-32a825d2e259.jpeg) Adding a plume holder soon, a strap and will be painting it to match the rest of my armor. Very happy with it!
This was for a film contest. The theme was "late" to be interpreted however we wanted. Had to be between 2-4 minutes, include a slinky and the phrase "what are you doing here? " This is the directors cut. Our short film didn't air during the contest, so I released the directors cut. I hope you enjoy. Forgot to include in the credits, but all post production was done by me.

Incredible year. Any questions, or anything, feel free to ask!
This time my armor was heavily inspired by Elden Ring, including the cerulean and crimson flasks. I've named this iteration Astor the Tarnished. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b1254f46-94f0-4f83-a144-7398c10a67c6.jpeg)

I recently added a collar and bought some gold chains and whatnot to make it a bit more regal. Also, pardon the shitty photoshop. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/2da5ba59-f0b9-4c08-85c3-7bcfdd4aedf5.jpeg)

Again, very happy with how this has turned out!
I wanted to see how the crown looked without the skull mask, as wearing the skull isn't going to be viable long term. It looks AWESOME. I used some shitty photoshop. Also, here's the inspiration picture.
She's a bit more wild than she was when we first adopted her, but she is still so sweet!
Woo!
So I did not *make* this helmet, but what I bought was an unwearable, unhistoric shell of metal. Had to remove the strap that was riveted inside the helmet because it was mounted so fat back that it would strangle you if you were to try to wear it. Had to drill out holes and install with the help of a friend, vervelles (the brass fittings around the back of the helmet) that I bought. Then I had to purchase a liner for the helmet, which needed to be modified to fit this helmet. I also riveted the strap into the liner itsself so it could be worn comfortably. Then with the help of a friend, drilled out all of the holes adound the helmet so the liner could be sewn in. Had to chamfer/deburr every single hole inside and out. Now I am sewing in the liner and it's coming along njcely! Last thing I have to do is make the leather strip for the aventail, let alone make/modify an aventail itsself, but I'm not worrying about that for a while. Woooooooo projects!
We haven't been able to afford or had time to go to the beach in so long. It's nice to get away. It was 11:00 PM when I took this on my shitty phone, but it still looks good!
These usually only came in orders of 30, which is not enough to do what I finally achieved in this little video. I had to record that final piece going in place.
Lookin good! ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d43a0e94-5c4a-451f-8ac8-6688df684ab7.jpeg)
Still a couple things to do and a few places to add paint, but it's lookin good! The rub n buff went a long way to make it look like metal ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/e19a5c89-3def-410a-9611-2db8597505ba.jpeg)
What can I do for a more realistic metal finish?
First coat is finally on. I know there's tons of scratches and imperfections and thats FINE with me because I'm going to be doing some weathering to this and the imperfections will help sell the story! It's supposed to look like it's been in a dungeon for decades if not centuries. So wooooo
So this was the end of the match. Our team is supposed to stop their king. I charged into the battle going for the king. I got both my arms cut off, and in a last ditch effort I headbutted him and killed him for the win! It was HILARIOUS!
So this was the end of the match. Our team is supposed to stop their king. I charged into the battle going for the king. I got both my arms cut off, and in a last ditch effort I headbutted him and killed him for the win! It was HILARIOUS!
Also, even though I already weathered the skull, I need to darken it some more, so that's on the to do list now.
I have some additional pieces not on the mannekin at the moment such as spaulders, bracers and some leg armor. I also swap the helmet and tabard sometimes. For now though, I'm digging this look. I hand made the chainmaille coif, and I also have a maille hauberk, but I don't display that as it's too heavy.
