The functionality in this script is indeed only possible as an addon or userscript. Browsers specifically spent a lot of work trying to make it impossible for one site to get any information about which other sites the user visited, and for good reason. Just imagine the phishing this would allow if it were possible.
That said, there could of course be an official lemmy browser addon/userscript for this functionality. But it definitely wouldn't be baked into the sites themselves.
Because idk if you noticed, but this script actually rewrites all links everywhere, so for example even if you get a result to some lemmy instance on duckduckgo, the link on duckduckgo itself will already point to your instance. Please tell me how that would be possible without an addon/userscipt :D

Wild idea, but could it just be that you're using it wrong? :D if you're on lemmy.ca then almost nothing should be rewritten because almost all links already go to lemmy.ca. Only when you go to another instance somehow or a user posts a link, for example this one then it should be rewritten.
Anyway though, here is a debug version of the script: https://gitlab.com/-/snippets/2561468/raw/main/lemmy.user.js
To use, open the browser console, unselect all message types at the top right (errors, warnings, logs...) except for the "Debug" message type, then reload the page and right-click -> send me all messages.
Azzu 1 year ago • 100%
I'm going to add a lot of logging and then give you a new version to try, then you can give me logs so I can diagnose this. There must be something weird about your setup, though I can't guess what.
Azzu 1 year ago • 100%
Does it work again when you do a full refresh? So F5/press enter in the adress bar? If so then somehow listening to page changes is broken for you, lemmy doesn't actually load new pages when you click on an (instance-local) link, it just exchanges all the content within the currently loaded page.

Maybe try violentmonkey instead of greasemonkey, which does not seem to be in development anymore.
Azzu 1 year ago • 100%
Yeah no idea, you can change DEBUG
from true
to false
and see if it's outputting any messages at all. I'd probably need to do some more advanced debugging steps, idk if you're willing to do that

I don't think your assumption on how well I understand how the professional world works is correct.
I understand very well that signing any NDA is by no means "zero risk", it has a definite risk attached to it. Declining it is costly in some way, but also has definite advantages.
I also understand that very rarely is the phrasing ever "this conversation will be off the record", but rather some phrasing including the specific topics that may not be shared, like you say for example, product details. Blanket phrasings like this are always very sketchy.

Stop using "All" "Hot/Active/Top" feeds and go search for actual content communities you want, by browsing the community lists, searching for your interests, or looking at new. Then just go to "Subscribed".

This is not a proper talk by meta that you could just "hear them out". They explicitly said off the record and confidential, there's no reason for that if it's something innocuous. There 100% would be an NDA involved.
The fediverse is all about being open, starting with an NDA is definitely not "zero risk", you can not slip up ever, or you're going to be destroyed by lawyers, this is the exact opposite of "zero risk".

Also works on Android on Firefox with TamperMonkey, that's what I'm mainly using it on. Also only tested it on Firefox, no idea about Chrome or anything else.
### Description Lemmy Universal Link Switcher, or LULs for short, scans all links on all websites, and if any link points to a Lemmy instance that is not your main/home instance, it rewrites the link so that it instead points to your main instance. Currently only works for community/user links. ### Home Instance Setup Simply visit the Lemmy instance you want to set as your home while the script is active. You will be asked if you want to set this instance to your home instance: ![home](https://greasyfork.org/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBNW0xQVE9PSIsImV4cCI6bnVsbCwicHVyIjoiYmxvYl9pZCJ9fQ==--7ff60350e91d895b6c5f91bbd8b198e46494efb3/2023-06-23%2006_15_41--pn.png?locale=en") If you initially set your home instance wrong or just want to change it, no worries - simply go to your settings on your new home instance and press the button for it! ![settings](https://greasyfork.org/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBNDIxQVE9PSIsImV4cCI6bnVsbCwicHVyIjoiYmxvYl9pZCJ9fQ==--ef9561d216033a3afe2175dca219f85e3560d321/2023-06-23%2006_00_03.png?locale=en) ### Features * Rewrite all links of *communities* or *users* on all websites everywhere to your new instance! The rewritten links will have an icon next to it, and hovering/touching the icon will show you the original link, allowing you to go there if you want to. ![rewrite](https://greasyfork.org/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBNHUxQVE9PSIsImV4cCI6bnVsbCwicHVyIjoiYmxvYl9pZCJ9fQ==--ab4ca68d48f3174ff9fe6cfd7820c66fa4c08ee9/2023-06-23%2006_00_01.png?locale=en) * If you are already on a page that has a corresponding page on your home instance, a link will automatically be added to the page header. ![redirect](https://greasyfork.org/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBeGEyQVE9PSIsImV4cCI6bnVsbCwicHVyIjoiYmxvYl9pZCJ9fQ==--e824ea55c69b88fb392b9ab0cfd093746ad255a0/2023-06-25%2004_58_33.webp?locale=en) ### Coming soon * Post & comment links.

I mean many communities still need people to actually create posts, this one is the same. That's the thing about early adoption, you're going to have less content at the start for you to lurk through.
However, if there is content, it's usually good and you get nice comment threads, pretty much like reddit from the old old days, so that's nice.
Maybe you'd want to post some? Also don't forget to vote :D
When I went to https://feddit.de/c/requests@lemmit.online I noticed the sidebar links to `/c/about` - which doesn't exist on feddit.de I'd suggest to change the link to `https://lemmit.online/c/about` so people from other instances can find it more easily.

Just wanted to say in general, federation is not instant. So if some user upvotes or comments on a post, it might be instantly there on the instance it was done on, but may take some time to get to all other instances.
That said, there definitely are likely also bugs still around. Part of what you're saying sounds like it. Can't help you with it though, needs to go to the devs/admins.
Azzu 1 year ago • 95%

The fuck?

For any such questions, just go go the /instances page of whatever instance you want to check federation for.
The lemmy.sdf.org/instances page shows lemmy.ml under "Linked instances", so whatever you're experiencing seems to either be a bug or no one has subscribed/searched for these posts/communities, so it hasn't been loaded yet. But since I assume you did that, it's probably some bug.

It seems like you got a good two weeks out of it, that's more than enough in my opinion. Especially for 180€, a steal!
So I think you definitely should not send it in for warranty. Obviously warranty is only for cases where you're very frustrated, not only "a bit" frustrated.
Any small fault should be be ignored, unless of course others have similar issues. Since this does not seem to be the case, just forget it.
Think of the poor multi-billion-dollar company. It just isn't fair to spring something like this on them.

Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other. Would also alleviate confusion for any new adopters. ^I'm pretty sure this is going to be impossible though, since each sides egos will likely get in the way :D^
