Building a Better Silicon Valley

The success of a place depends on its human relations and a sociable place you can interact with your neighbors freely, where people are comfortable and are involved in their daily economic activities. Racism discourages socialization and development. Huge companies in Silicon Valley have detested racism and even made donations towards equal justice initiatives. Tech companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook are among them. A society with mixed cultures or cultural diversity brings about creativity and increases innovation. As we learn and understand from each other’s different ways of living we learn how to do various things better and hence end up appreciating each other.

Cultural diversity is advantageous to organizations since they can get gifted people from the pool to work for them. Understanding this is important. Each individual brings a unique contribution on board for the success of the company, and this makes the business more competitive on a global scale. Diversity fosters good relationships among employees, it unifies them. It offers more opportunities in personal growth or career advancement. Leaving in a diverse society not only does it expose you new ways and expertise in solving a problem but also makes you a global citizen. It also brings more understanding to the way people do the things they do and how they do it, hence respect.

Despite the affluence of Silicon Valley areas, poverty still runs deep. According to the supplemental poverty measure, nearly 18.7% of Santa Clara County cannot afford basic needs each month without financial help. Approximately 11.3 percent of individuals live below the poverty line in the bay area. Even with the thriving economy, wealth has not spread to other areas. It was reported that many don’t have the skill to keep up with the technology.

Fostering good relationships among people and avoiding discrimination among people of color could be the solution to eradicating poverty in Silicon Valley. Hiring of people without racial discrimination and giving equality in treatment would make Silicon Valley society to be better. CEO’s should encourage and adopt programs that hire people of color.
