Is it allowed to post craft made by other people?

Basically title. I have two left hands, but sometimes I stumbled upon a nice creation from a small artisan on the Internet, and would like to share. Is it allowed?

I made a holster and ammo pouch for a black powder revolver. https://imgbox.com/g/gODUg4FZba

I was able to make the holster in a day. It took longer to find a pattern I liked.

Stitching Vice

I don't own a stitching pony so this is how I decided to hold my work. It's not perfect as the thread sometimes get caught on the vice and it's only three inches wide but it's much faster than trying to hold the piece with my hands as I stitch it.

Tools/Supplies for Guitar Pick Holder

I've never made anything from leather. I'd like to make some keychain guitar pick holders like the one in the photo. I'm looking for advice on some tools required to make these. I think there are tools like; punches to pop holes for stitches, burnishing the edge, sewing, installing the snap, etc. I have a decent set of woodworking hand tools (knives, chisels, carving chisels, mallet, workbench, etc.) I bought the one in the photo for $5 and realize a DIY one will cost 10x more but that's not the point.

Orbitkey Refresh

I've had my Orbitkey Black Edition: Canvas for over five years and it has started to fray and become weathered. I decided to give it new life and remade it using some 5 oz Veg-Tan leather. It wasn't the most difficult thing to make but I like that I didn't have to replace something simply because it's old. I'm very pleased with how it came out.

Canadians - heads up!

Fiebings Pro dye and Barge won’t be sold in Canada any longer. Law change starting 2024 banning both products in Canada because of VOCs.

Made a pair of steampunk goggles from veg-tan leather https://lemmy.one/pictrs/image/3226743d-8008-4b17-8a68-6b4213aa305f.jpeg

I went to a steampunk themed event. Rather then buy a pair of goggles, I made it unnecessarily harder on myself by making a pair from scratch. The right eye is lined with magnets, making the magnifying glass easily removable.

Software for pattern design

If you like to design your own patterns check out Affinity Designer. Blows my mind! Quick to learn how to draw patterns, easy to resize and so so much more. Here is a great example from today: I tried to figure out how to get the length of the one side of an odd shaped part of my pattern. I know the measuring tool in Affinity but it seemed to only do straight lines, distance between objects or area. Quick search and I learned I can break the curve points and then it shows me the length of the different sides and the area 🤯 Extremely handy especially when working with zippers in a certain size. I also can export as svg or pdf. Print and cut your patterns (pdf) or if you have a Cricut or Silhouette (svg), cut the patterns with that! Or even the leather if not too thick. I am considering selling some patterns in the future and I can even toss in the afdesign file for people so they can adjust what they want. Affinity Designer btw is super affordable especially compared to Adobe Illustrator and such. If I remember correctly there is free 30 day trial. Anybody else using Affinity Designer?

Anyone doing commissions?

I'm looking for a set of motorcycle saddlebags in the style of vintage horse riding gear. Example below, but my 'perfect' version is quite a bit darker: ![](https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/fe75be00-937a-42b1-988e-daced1ff43a0.png)

Repairs

I recently watched [this video](https://youtu.be/bpZlYFbyAg8) by Corter and it was a bit of an aha moment. Whether it’s repair, changing the thread colour or in my case fixing some mistakes … I love how leather products can be opened up and redone. Not everything of course but the stitch line is fairly simple to revamp, billets are quickly replaced and even edges can be re-burnished. I love the 2nd bag that I ever made a lot but it was my second bag. I had missed a whole and one corner was therefore off, I attached the buckle upside down (it works but looks off) and a seam was opening up. Burnished edges weren’t good yet. So I sat down today and fixed it all. It was easier than I thought and it’s a nice upgrade! I wish I had taken before and after pics.

Proof of concept pricking iron

Made a pricking iron from a bit of copper bus bar I had. I ordered a bunch of 250/27LP sewing machine needles. 2.5mm holes drilled and it’s a perfect fit for the needles. Started off nicely but got caught by drilling copper too fast. Just bound up and broke a drill in the hole. Ffs. Dropped the drill press RPM down to 580 and that worked well. I will now make a single awl using one of these needles, and a double and quad pricking iron. https://imgur.com/a/uooMjll

Advice needed to keep contact adhesive fresh

Edit at bottom: I have purchased a larger pot than usual of contact adhesive. My last pot was 1/2 the size and started to thicken after a year (mostly used). As a hobyiest, I'm wondering if there is a cheap solution to extend the life of the glue or bring it back to life, it's not the cost but trying to reduce waste. Product is a solvent based polychloroprene contact adhesive (EVO-STIK IMPACT ADHESIVE). To identify if cause was user error - stored in the tin, and I wrapped in plastic as an extra air barrier, it was on a shelf inside. Would adding solvents work (have Butane and isopropanol alcohol on hand). Happy to experiment but nice to know I'm not creating leather wrapped napalm. Obviously best plan would be to double my leathercraft output. Any advice on better glue in UK would be welcomed. Thank you. EDIT: A) first findings are ther cross over between chemists and leather workers seems to be low. B) Isopropyl alcohol seemed to make it set arder C) Butane had a slightly better response but didn't really help enough - think it had gone to far to be saved.

Made this gathering bag to practice sewing https://imgur.com/gallery/BtA4ntO

I was gifted a sewing machine for my birthday. I’ve never used one before, but I was told that making a pillow case was the best learner project. Since a pillow case is basically just a big bag, I got the idea from a YouTube channel called Skill Tree to instead make a gathering bag. The bag itself is held to the case by a saddle stitch. I gave the front of it a sort of shield shape in order to show some of the fabric, making it apart of the aesthetic. The Celtic knot on the front was made with a stamp, but the negative space was darkened with an antique finish. This is the first time I successfully used an antiquing finish without darkening the entire piece.

Using the sun to darken natural vegtan

I made this catch-all tray for a friend's housewarming but I wasn't happy with the natural vegtan color so I propped it up in a sunny window for three days. My needle holder from the same hide is there to show the contrast of how much the color changed and to remind everyone to wear sunscreen 😎

Leather sheath that I made for my fixed-blade knife (LT Wright GNS) https://i.imgur.com/AnjMtul.jpg

It has a pocket in the front for a sharpening stone. On the side, it has a ferro rod to start fires. It's for bushcrafting mainly. I know it's a little rough around the edges and my stitches aren't perfect, but it works!
