Info request: vermi-composting en.wikipedia.org

I don’t know much about vermi composting, but I am thinking of giving it a go. Does anyone have a good resource, knowledge, or recommendation on where to start? My thoughts were to get a couple metal grated waste baskets, a bunch of earth worms and put one in each of my raised garden beds. Or should I run an experiment and do one bed and not the other? What are its benefits? Downsides(rodents, possums for instance)? Guidance is appreciated.

Grocery store garlic tips? (specifically for hot zones)

Hey all, I’d like to grow some garlic at home in containers. Problem is I live near Phoenix, Arizona USA so it’s quite hot outside most of the year. Anyone have experience want to share some tips? I noticed some garlic bulbs starting to sprout in my fridge and thought I might be able to start some indoors from that. ____ I dont know how to crosspost, but I made the same post [here](https://sh.itjust.works/post/1608309) if others come looking for advice and find this post, might be answers there too

I'm trying wood shavings for mulch.

Seems to help with water retention and soil erosion, not so much with weeds. I end up with a bunch of wood shavings from woodworking so I've been trying to find a use for them.

Po-tay-toes

Foreground is sweet potatoes and background is just your basic white potatoes. We’re struggling to keep the grass down in this garden (more on that in another post) but I’m really happy with these cedar boxes. Lowe’s has this cedar fencing that’s like $2.50 a board. Each box needs 9 boards (I just chopped the tip off all the boards, and then cut three in half for the short sides) and I think the one post was $15 or so. Stapled some lining inside, three in old logs, used straw from our goats, and then crap dirt until the top inch. Hopefully these boxes look okay after a year or two because at just around $40 per box (6’x3’) I’m already pretty chuffed.

Plants are loving the rain!

Got a late start this season on my little deck garden here in Chicago, but everything is looking great regardless! This is only my second year of deck gardening this year is looking much better than last. Its amazing what you can still manage to grow in a small space. Things I have growing: - Sunflower(front center) - Cat grass (bottom right) - Orange hat tomatoes (in the pot on the banister to the right ) - String beans (windowsill on the left) - Cucumbers (vertical) - Cauliflower(vertical) - Nasturtiums(vertical) - A few different tomatoes(vertical) - Mini bell peppers (vertical) - Catnip(vertical)

June State of the Garden photos.app.goo.gl

Our garden is in its third year. These are the current plots/plants as of the start of June. The goal was to have _some form_ of soaker irrigation in place by the start of the month and we'd accomplished that, though it left much to be desired. We'll be improving on that for next month - one branching topology experiment is already in place and working well. The strawberries and beans have been getting wrecked by pillbugs and the tomatoes have been getting wrecked by whiteflies and aphids; the other goal for next month is introducing some predators and pest control.

This year's peppers and tomatoes.

Someone dumped their extras on us and I don't have a plot dug, so in some buckets they go. I have grown Romas and Habaneros in double-bucket self-watering planters before, but I didn't have enough buckets this year. This is only half of the plants we got, I passed the rest on to my parents. They are: 2x Serranos, a Jalapeno, a Sweet Black Hungarian, and a Bell pepper. Also 2x "heirloom mix" tomatoes, 1 Roma, 2x Abe Lincoln and a mystery tomato .

Living full time in an RV right now. Can't garden properly so I have a few small potted plants. Something was eating off my kale and shard so they are in the back of the truck.
